In Ghostly’s seventeenth episode,
Pat and Rebecca explore the curse of Poltergeist,
the 1982 movie by Steven Spielberg and Tobe Hooper and its sequels. Legend says
that the movie was cursed because of its dark subject matter and use of real
skeletons in the original movie. Several actors suffered untimely deaths,
including two of its main stars, Dominque Dunne and Heather O’Rourke. Other
paranormal claims include lightening strikes, mechanical clowns attacking
children, and an exorcism. Do all these events add up to a curse? As always,
you the listener get to decide.
What happened on the set of the Poltergeist movies that led people to believe
it was cursed? What happened to Dominique Dunne? How did Heather O’Rourke die?
What claims did JoBeth Williams, who played the mother make about the film? Did
she and others experience poltergeist activity? What is a poltergeist? Why was
there an exorcism performed on the set of the second movie? Is there a Poltergeist curse?
[8:13] Listen to hear Pat give a basic plot overview along with a brief history of the movie and the details of the deaths of two of the main stars, Dominque Dunne and Heather O’Rouke.
WARNING: There are some graphic details of domestic abuse
when discussing Dominque Dunne’s tragic death. If you or anyone you know is
suffering from domestic abuse, please call 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) or visit https://www.thehotline.org/
[24:55] After the history, listen to Rebecca tell the ghost story of what it was like to work on the film. It is a terrifying tale that would be a nightmare for any actor – or anyone.
[28:35] Then listen to the Great Debate! Rebecca and Pat go through all the stories and evidence of the curse of Poltergeist, including the deaths, the almost deaths, and just all-around potential paranormal activity, and debate what’s true and what’s just folklore. Listen to all sides and decide what you believe.
[1:10:34] Be sure to stay for the whole episode to hear the “Closing Arguments” to help you make your choice before voting.

Bonus Episode - Completing H. H. Holmes
May 24, 2019
Show notes
In Ghostly’s first BONUS EPISODE, Pat and Rebecca go deeper into the history of H.H. Holmes, one of America’s first serial killers. Holmes was a murderer and a con man who almost got away with escalating his killing to even worse levels, but his greed got in the way. We told you part of the story in our main episode – here is the rest. Listener beware – this is a disturbing story and may not be appropriate for all ages/constitutions.
Questions explored in this episode:
How many people did Holmes actually kill? How many wives did he have? How did
he kill his victims? What do we know for sure and what don’t we know?
Pat tells more of Holmes’s murderous history in this episode, with Rebecca providing commentary, and, of course, some debate on what we know and what we don’t know about H.H. Holmes and his gruesome crimes.

015 H. H. Holmes
May 15, 2019
Show notes
In Ghostly’s fifteenth episode, Pat and Rebecca along with their friend Mondo explore H.H. Holmes, America’s first serial killer. He built himself a Murder Castle in Chicago during the 1893 World’s Fair, luring women to his apartment building, only to kill them and steal their money. The story his reign of terror ends with him fleeing across both the U.S. and Canada and eventually being caught and executed. Or was he?
Questions explored in this episode: Who was H.H. Holmes? Why is he called America’s first serial killer? Should he be called a serial killer? What were his crimes? What was the Murder Castle like? Is the spot of the Murder Castle still haunted today? Did Holmes die at his execution? Did he kill those who took part in his execution after the fact (alive or as a ghost)? Does he or do his victims still haunt Chicago?
[Starts at 14:14] Listen to hear Pat give the history of H.H. Homes. After exploring his childhood, Pat goes into Holmes’s desire to be a doctor and pharmacist along with his love of skeletons and money. He reviews the building of the murder castle and how it connects to the Colombian Exposition, or 1893 World’s Fair. There are too many stories and victims to fit into one episode, so Pat wants to know…would you like to hear a special episode devoted just to the history of H.H. Holmes? If you do, be sure to vote in our Facebook poll!
[Starts at 56:02] After the history, listen to Rebecca tell the ghost story, putting the listen in the moment of what it would be like to be one of H.H. Holmes’s victims and learn why their spirits may still haunt that spot.
[Starts at 58:55] Then listen to the Great Debate! Rebecca, Pat, and Mondo
go through all the paranormal sightings and happenings associated with Holmes
and debate what’s true and what’s just folklore. Listen to all sides and decide
what you believe.
[Starts at 1:35:46] Be sure to stay for the whole episode to hear the “Closing
Arguments” to help you make your choice.

011 Curse on The Omen
Mar 20, 2019
Show notes
In Ghostly’s eleventh episode, Pat
and Rebecca explore the curse that plagued the filming of the 1976 movie The Omen. Before, during, and after the
making of The Omen, many bad things
happened. Were these the result of a curse?
Questions explored in this episode: What was happening during the time this movie was made? What is the movie about? What incidents happened during the movie, as well as before and after? Does the devil haunt this movie? Are these events based on a curse?
In this episode, Pat gives the history of the movie and how it got made while giving some interesting casting information as well. Then Rebecca tells the creepy stories associated with this movie and explains why they were so unusual.
Here is a list of the incidents…listen for more details!
• The man who had the idea for the movie as well as the producer both predicted it would be cursed. • Lightning struck three people associated with the movie and almost hit a forth • Several people from the movie narrowly escaped IRA bombings • An animal trainer for one scene died • A pack of dogs used in another scene attacked a stuntman • Car crash that happened right after the movie mimicked a death scene from the movie.
And a few that we didn’t have time to mention!
• Gregory Peck, the movie’s main star, suffered the loss of his son two months before making the movie. In the movie, he plays a father who finds out his son is possibly the Anti-Christ and he has to decide if he’s going to kill him. • Another stuntman from the movie felt he was “pushed” off a building on the next movie he filmed, almost killing him.
And, as always, Pat and Rebecca
debate what is fact and what is fiction in these stories. Listen to both sides
and decide what you believe. They go through each one, debating the evidence.
