Chrissy grew up in her parents retail and shoe stores. From an early age she knew she had a creative spark. She quickly landed the lead role in a Blake Shelton music video and knew she had to pursue acting. After moving to LA, she was cast in another Country Music Star’s Video, Frankie Ballard’s “A Buncha Girls.” But this video was different. From the second Frankie and Chrissy met, sparks flew. 2 weeks later he flew her out for their first date to meet him on the road and watch him play shows. After that they were inseparable. Chrissy realized that acting was no longer her dream, and she wanted to leave LA to be with Frankie in Nashville. But she didn’t want to lose her creative outlet, so she prayed to God for a new dream. And woah, did God answer. Chrissy went back to her family roots of loving shoes and retail and created a Boot Empire named OLD SMOKEYS BOOTS where she has celebrity clients from Lucy Hale to Miranda Lambert. She gets old vintage boots and leather and makes super-funky-cool-one-of-a-kind cowboy boots, belts and purses. Chrissy also talks the secrets to her fruitful/spiritual marriage with Frankie, dealing with the grief of suddenly losing her father, and what a successful life looks like to her.

Katie Cook grew up in England in a very musical family. She got a record deal in Nashville with her punk rock/country band Reno, and started splitting time between America and the UK. When her band broke up, she was sweeping hair at a salon in Nashville and heard that CMT was looking for a new host. On a whim, she auditioned and got the job with no previous hosting experience. Over 20 years later, she is still the Host and Face of CMT. Katie also shares about the passing of her sister JoJo, who lived her life with disabilities and the brightest spirit. Katie and her husband have a band called SunKat and they have an amazing tribute song to her called “Hey JoJo.”

This is a powerful episode. Laney and Walker Hayes are high school sweethearts. They fell in love at age 17 after breaking into a construction site and talking all night, then reciting lines from their school play to each other and Walker finally going in for the kiss. They are incredible parents to 6 kids, and make it a point to have open communication about everything. They also have a family tradition of eating pounds of bacon when Walker comes in off the road. Laney gets real with me about the grief and tragedy of losing their 7th child, Oakleigh, in labor while Laney almost died delivering her. She and Walker feel very passionately about using their journey of loss to help others. There are tears and very raw emotions in this episode. I thank Laney for her bravery and willingness to share about this incredibly sensitive, painful topic and use it for healing.

Lauren walks me through their whole love story, why their marriage isn’t perfect, their love of therapy, life on the road when they were newlyweds (it’s not always glamorous or fun FYI), becoming a huge celebrity in her own right and how she learned to process it. She then shares how she fell in love with the children and families of Haiti and Africa and knowing she was called to work with and change lives of children in need. She talks about finding balance between the poverty of 3rd world countries, where her heart lives, to walking red carpets. Plus how she learned to embrace her platform to spread awareness of how her community can help those in need. Also we talk about how TR knew they should instantly adopt Willa Gray and how they navigated being new parents to a 1.5 year old and newborn at the same time!
