Welcome, to the Get Focused Podcast…Hosted by, Bill K. & Gina Faye Marriage & Family Therapist, LMFT, IDHP

Bill started his journey over 20 years ago, taking on life’s toughest challenges head on. After serving in the military, Bill made it his mission to conquer professional sales, and now he’s helping individuals & companies blow past their obstacles, embrace insight, wisdom & inspiration, and create strength, purpose & motivation in everything you do.

It has been Gina’s experience that an important component of successful therapy is the therapeutic relationship that gets formed. She enjoys working with most people and finds that she is most effective to the extent that a safe and trusting space can be created where her clients are able to communicate whatever they need to without fear of judgement. She has also found that she is not able to be of any help at all, unless her client is invested in their healing process, willing to do the work that’s involved, and is not looking for their therapist to tell them what to do.

She particularly enjoys the challenge of working with couples. She makes it a point of treating the couple, not either of the individuals involved. She does not take sides, but rather tries to help each person see and understand the other’s perspective.

In this podcast you will experience and learn from people from all different walks of life. The stories and experiences that we have all faced or will face and how to overcome your fears and Get Focused.

In this episode, we discuss something that happened to Gina last week, that could have cost her thousands of dollars. We are aware that similar things happen to many people all over the country.

Thankfully, Gina's run-in with a scam had a happy ending, thanks to the excellent training an employee of a local store had received.

We are concerned about this issue, and are working to get the word out, so that others can be aware of how devious some of these scams can be, and not get hooked.

Our topic for this episode is the world of on-line dating, and how it has evolved over the years.

Gina shares her experiences in this realm over the past 10 years, including people pretending to be what they are not, and how all too often lonely people can be preyed upon by scammers.

Bill, happily married for a very long time, shares his perspective, as someone who really has never had any experience with these apps and sites.

Several years when Gina and Bill first started talking about doing a podcast together, Bill said he wanted to be on the receiving end of Gina's therapy.

In this session, that's what happened.

Our topic was change, and how we manage it...and with Gina, Bill explored his decision to join the military, who he shared that decision with, and basically, how he coped with the change of leaving his very close-knit family and community, and going to a completely new environment.

In this episode we look at the concept of "Acceptance".

Gina had shared a post about acceptance on Facebook, and we thought it would be interesting to look at what this idea means to each of us, and the fact that the meaning of the word can be misunderstood.

Bill shared that he had, in the past, associated acceptance with complacency, and we clarified for both of us what the difference between these two ideas is.

Typically, our conversation went down several other roads, and we hope you are enjoying our meanderings, as much as we enjoy recording them.

059: Gun Control and How Can We Make a Difference Aug 10, 2019

In this session, we dive into the question of gun control, and the wider issue of what we, as a society can do to make a difference.

We both have different perspectives on this topic, although there are areas where we agree, and this made for a fascinating discussion.

As the topic broadened, we looked at politics in general, and the value of voting...how can we really make a difference, and can we be confident that our vote actually counts?

Our conversation illustrates clearly that people who hold strong views are still able to have an open discussion, and still stay friends.

Open conversation is something we value a lot, allowing the possibility of connecting with another person even if they don't see things exactly the same way we do.

Gina described a training in listening she did many years ago that taught her the tremendous benefit that can be had from listening to understand instead of listening to respond.
