EP 73: Summer Interrupted; Here it comes! May 16, 2022
    Show notes

Ready or not: here comes SUMMER! Summer break is an opportunity to slow down, have some fun and maybe even for our kids to learn new things or reach new goals. BUT, it gets hot and these kids are home, and we can find ourselves *quickly* wishing for the school doors to open again. We’re talking in this episode about where the concept of summer even came from and how we can do summer well.

    Tips for a great summer:

    • Think about what works for YOU
      • Do you love being in the pool all day, doing crafts, kicking it at home?
      • Whatever works for you, DO THAT. Don’t be sucked into the social media summer stranglehold.
      • If you try to force something that isn’t you, you and your people will be miserable.
    • Think about what your kids NEED
      • How much screen time is ok for them
      • What new things do they need to learn
      • How much interaction with other people do they need
    • Embrace the season

EP 72: Work Interrupted with Jenny Worsham May 09, 2022
    Show notes

All moms are working moms. Whether you work in the home or outside the home or some hybrid version of that, we all know what it’s like to feel like we’re juggling the things we need to do to help support our family and also care for our children and, if there’s time, chase our dreams. Jenny Worsham knows this struggle well and has seen God grow her so much in this area and has great wisdom to offer us.

Like Jenny said, we need each other, mamas. Here’s the link to learn more about Gather Groups.

    EP 71: Mother’s Day Interrupted; Let’s re-think this May 02, 2022
    Show notes

In all honesty, we have mixed feelings about Mother’s Day as mamas. Our expectations of a magical day are dashed when things aren’t so magical because, let’s face it, our kids don’t stop being kids just because it’s the second Sunday in May. They will still fight, make messes and forget to say thank you. So, what if we flipped the script on Mother’s Day? What if we re-calibrated our expectations and maybe even made the focus of the day about another mama instead of about us. After all, as you’ll hear in this episode, that was the original intent of the day.

    Practical Tips:

    • You shouldn’t feel guilty or shameful about how YOU want to spend Mother’s Day
    • Speak up: share how you would like to be celebrated with your people
    • Reach out: ask widowed and single moms how you could serve them on Mother’s Day
    • Let go of control: take off your manager hat and be ok with things not going according to plan, the beautiful messiness is part of what motherhood is all about; the perfectly imperfect
    • Release the pressure of this one day: You can celebrate Mother’s Day any day

EP 70: Interrupted by NO; Help with Discipline Apr 25, 2022
    Show notes

One of the very first words our children learn: NO. And then, mine. Before they even reach the age of two, we are disciplining these rebellious little beings and it doesn’t let up for a long time. That can feel overwhelming and discouraging BUT we have HOPE. Listen in as we talk about how every act of disobedience is not actually something that is inconvenient and making our life harder but an opportunity to go after the heart of our children.

    Practical Tips:

    • Challenge children to obey: right away, all the way and with a happy heart
    • Children struggle to obey because:
      • They don’t share our priorities
      • They are used to us yelling when we’re really serious
      • We’re inconsistent or not on the same page as the other parent
      • We don’t have their attention
      • Their sinners
    • Every act of disobedience is an opportunity to go after your child’s heart
    • Ask the questions:
      • What happened?
      • What did you do? (Use I language)
      • What was the result?
      • Why did you do it?
      • Then remind them of their need for Jesus and offer prayer and discipline
    • Paul Tripp book we referenced: Parenting

    Bible Truth:

Ephesians 3:20-21: Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all we ask or think according to the power at work within us, to him be the glory in the church and in Jesus Christ throughout all generations. Forever and ever. Amen.

EP 69: I’m Obviously Right; Fights Interrupted Apr 18, 2022
    Show notes

When was the last time you had an argument with your spouse? Today we’re reminding all of us that fighting is normal. It can actually be a healthy part of a relationship. Passionate opinions and selfish desires force us to examine what’s most important and compromise as we come together to find common ground. Most of us don’t expect an argument to interrupt our day but then it happens. Kate and Rebecca get vulnerable and shine a light on angry emotions, the need to be seen and the hope Jesus gives us in scripture. All of us are growing up in marriage and need some redo’s on fighting fair. Learning to argue well and see from the other person’s perspective are necessary for mature relationships. We hope you hear some real-talk today that will encourage you to take a deep breath and say, “I love this person,” before your next real-life fight.

EP 68: Mama needs a nap; Sleep Interrupted Apr 11, 2022
    Show notes

Mama, if you’re tired, you’re in good company. Sleep struggles are so common among mamas. If it’s not newborns keeping us up, it’s sick kids or toddlers having trouble sleeping and then, waiting for teenagers to get home. Sleep is linked to our hormones and so many moms experience insomnia after the huge hormonal changes women experience in pregnancy and as we grow older. You are not alone and there is hope!

We surveyed moms to ask what is helping them sleep. Here were their tips:

    • Sunshine and exercise
    • Limit caffeine
    • Limit screens at night
    • Meditation/Sleep Apps
    • Read
    • Pray
    • Supplements

And don’t forget to go to God with this! Ask him for help and claim these truths:

    • Proverbs 3:24: If you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.
    • Psalm 4:8: In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.

EP 66: Interrupted by Questions Mar 21, 2022
    Show notes

Raise your hand if you have a question-meter! That’s when you’ve hit your limit on the amount of questions you can rationally handle. A mother’s day is constantly interrupted with questions about lost shoes, more snacks, relationship drama, extra screen time and so much more. Your answers are informing the inquiring minds in your home and are so important. Our kids are learning about this world through our honest and sometimes creative explanations. They are taking a peek into our minds and accessing our wisdom.

Where does a mom go when she needs answers? We believe God is our source for all our questions. He is infinitely wise, excessively patient and consistently honest. When was the last time you petitioned God…and then really listened for the answer? Today Kate and Rebecca chat about seeking God with all our questions. Let’s take a cue from our kids and keep asking, seeking and knocking. God is never too busy or too tired to spend time with us, filling our bellies with truth and comfort to tackle whatever comes our way.

EP 65: Mirror Interrupted with Heather Creekmore Mar 14, 2022
    Show notes

Objectifying women is bad. We can all agree on that and yet, we do it to ourselves nearly everyday when we look in the mirror or look at a picture and analyze ourselves as objects, not humans. We only see what we can see and scrutinize every part. God did not create us as objects. He created us as people, made in His image. Who we are is much more than what we look like. Listen in to this interview with Heather Creekmore as we unlock the chains keeping so many of us bound to the stronghold of body image.

    EP 64: Diet Interrupted Mar 07, 2022
    Show notes

January always means a diet, right? Some kind of cleanse or new commitment to only eat clean or avoid certain foods to get rid of those holiday pounds and get summer bod ready. But what if January didn’t mean that? What if it meant something new? Kate is sharing in this episode how she is laying down her regularly programmed diet ritual and trusting as God calls her out to something new, something better.

    TRUTH:

    Colossians 2:6-8 and 16-23

    1 Timothy 4:1-5

Here are culture lies and truth from God’s word:

    • Culture says: your weight equals your worth

    God says:

Philippians 3:19: Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things.

Luke 12:6-7: Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. 7 Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.

You were worth Jesus to God

    • Culture says: your value comes from the way you look

    God says:

Matthew 6:25: Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?

1 Corinthians 6:19-20: Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

Romans 12:1-2: I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

1 Corinthians 3:16: Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?

1 Samuel 16:7: For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.

    • Culture says: you will get more praise the better you look

    God says:

Proverbs 31:30: Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.

1 Peter 3:3-4: Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious.

Isaiah 61:3: They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.

    • Culture says: don’t eat certain foods; you have to eat clean

    God says:

Colossians 2:20-23: If with Christ you died to the elemental spirits of the world, why, as if you were still alive in the world, do you submit to regulations— 21 “Do not handle, Do not taste, Do not touch” 22 (referring to things that all perish as they are used)—according to human precepts and teachings? 23 These have indeed an appearance of wisdom in promoting self-made religion and asceticism and severity to the body, but they are of no value in stopping the indulgence of the flesh.

1 Timothy 4:1-5: Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, 2 through the insincerity of liars whose consciences are seared, 3 who forbid marriage and require abstinence from foods that God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. 4 For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, 5 for it is made holy by the word of God and prayer.

Romans 14:17: For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

    • Culture says: you need to look like this

    God says:

Psalm 139:14: I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.

Ephesians 2:10: For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

1 Timothy 4:8: For while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.

Isaiah 64:8: But now, O Lord, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand.

Romans 9:20:But who are you, O man, to answer back to God? Will what is molded say to its molder, “Why have you made me like this?”
