    Doctor Strange May 11, 2022
    Show notes

Did you see Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and say to yourself "I need a little more magic in my life" or even "I need to get a little more Strange"? Well if so, we've got you covered this week! Today's episode is all about Doctor Strange with our fellow GateCrasher and first time guest, Jordan!

For this episode, Dan opened up a portal all the way to New Zealand thanks to a mysterious magical tome/software called Zoom to consult with a Doctor Strange expert on the topic to see where is a good place to begin reading more about the character!

As someone who hates magic, even Dan found the spark in the comics we read but more so from hearing Jordan talk about his favorite character maybe in all of fiction. A lot of questions flew in this one about Doctor Strange's rogue gallery to pondering on what was going through the minds of the developers on Marvel VS Capcom when they threw in Shuma Gorath as a fighter. They really took us for a ride with that one... Fun fact about that multi-dimensional tentacle haver, they're a Conan the Barbarian character which we get into.

At the tail end of the episode, Dan and Jordan give their honest thoughts and feelings on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness with FULL SPOILERS. But we give a ton of warnings, honestly Dan may have given too many. It's a lot of warnings that the film will be spoiled if you listen to the very end. You're warned there and here. That Jordan and Dan of the GateCrashersverse warn you and the Dan of our Earth (me) are warning you as well!

    For this episode we covered:

    Doctor Strange: The Oath

Doctor Strange Vol 2 Issue 46

Travelin' the Road to Dark Crisis with Joshua Williamson May 06, 2022
    Show notes

Listeners should be familiar with the Detective Comic Comics universe by now being that's what all this was born from. Well, listeners, we've covered one of these before and opened with a musical number but this time, we are here with someone who is penning a...

    DARK CRISIS

Red skies, death, destruction, trying to make sense of the DC universe's multiverse and how at one point all of it happened in 5 years...

Today we are once again joined by the current architect of the DC Universe; the writer of Robin, Batman, Deathstroke Inc, and now… DARK CRISIS... New York Times best-selling author Joshua Williamson joins us again to talk about the DC Universe.

It's been some time since the last major Crisis in the DC Universe but the pieces have been laid out since the very first steps into the Infinite Frontier. Joshua's work on so many of the biggest DC Comics titles have been laying the groundwork for what has come for the Dark Crisis. There are pieces that Joshua says are obvious that we have all missed so far.

We discuss the importance of Legacy in the DC Universe with much of the younger generation of heroes stepping up to fill the shoes left behind by the murdered Justice League in the pages of Justice League #75. With DC shying away from legacy until recently, we discussed the importance of people like Nightwing and Flash rising to the occasion. We spend a fair amount of time discussing the true heart of the DC Universe, Dick Grayson and why everyone turns to him in the times of crisis.

The Ghost That Ate Us Interview Apr 27, 2022
    Show notes

The Ghost That Ate Us questions if you remember the brutal crime of on small town...

Maybe you read about it on Twitter. Maybe a friend sent you a news clip. Maybe you saw it on an episode of Spectral Journeys that night you were flipping through channels, unable to sleep.

Maybe after reading the true story, you won't ever sleep again.

On June 1, 2017, six people were killed at a Burger City franchise off I-80 near Jonny, Iowa. It was the bizarre and gruesome conclusion to nine months of alleged paranormal activity at the fast-food joint—events popularly known as "the Burger City Poltergeist."

The story inspired Facebook memes, Twitter hashtags, Buzzfeed listicles, Saturday Night Live sketches, and more. But the case was never much more than a punchline…until bestselling writer Daniel Kraus (The Shape of Water, The Living Dead) decided to head to Iowa to dig up what really happened.

Presented here is the definitive story of "the most exhaustively documented haunting in history," including—for the first time ever—interviews with every living survivor of the tragedy.

The employees of Burger City were a family. They loved one another. At least, at the beginning.

But love can make you do unspeakable things.

Turns out that The Ghost That Ate Us is a fictional story written by Daniel Kraus, it just took Dan some time to catch up on that in this interview. Dan and Dan get into the details about building a fast food franchise from scratch. Daniel talks about things that have been inspiring him.

The book is out on July 12th from Raw Dog Screaming Press. Pre-order the book here to learn all about the poltergeist that changed one small town forever.

You can find Daniel on his website here.

The cover design of The Ghost That Ate Us was done by Tim Daniel of Second Rocket Comics. (Tim also designed our logo as well!)

Steve Orlando and Nyla Rose Interview Apr 20, 2022
    Show notes

It's no secret that Dan has gotten in deep with wrestling but for the first time ever we are joined by an AEW superstar in this week's episode with our Steve Orlando and Nyla Rose interview about their upcoming one-shot from Marvel Comics GIANT-SIZED X-MEN: THUNDERBIRD 1.

Nyla Rose teams up with comics star Steve Orlando and First Nations artist David Cutler to grapple with the ramifications of Thunderbird's recent resurrection on Krakoa. The world John Proudstar has returned to is completely different from the one he once knew. Looking to find refuge in the familiar, Thunderbird seeks out someone from his past at an Apache reservation…and uncovers a horrifying threat to the Indigenous mutant community. Will Thunderbird be able to save his people? Or will his justified rage lead him astray?

Steve and Nyla chat about who John Proudstar is after all this time being... well not alive. We dive into the character's costume redesign with artist Dave Cutler. Nyla discusses what is was like being able to bring authentic voices to the characters when typically John has not had a native person writing or designing his character. Both writers talk about how they approached how death has changed John who was a pretty stubborn and brash person. Both Steve and Nyla school Dan on wrestling stories and history. This is one Steve Orlando and Nyla Rose interviews you don't want to miss.

Do you know who the Undertaker's manager was? You're going to learn today!

Noted Dakenologist Dan McMahon who has a PhD in Daken studies gets to chat with Steve about his approach to the character. Orlando drops some pretty big hints to the future of the character and what he has in store with him.

Nyla also chats about some of the inspirations for her in ring personality, her wrestling rituals, and we talk about what Marvel characters are wrestling fans.

All of that and more in this interview! You can find Steve on Twitter here and Nyla Rose on twitter here!
