Do you believe in ghosts? This week is part 3 of the Spooky Science series as I discuss the science of ghosts and contacting the dead. The idea of ghosts have been around since ancient times, and have even spawned the literary genre of ghosts stories. We all have a ghost story that either happened to someone we know or happened to us. I also break down the most common ways to try and contact the dead as well as the science behind some of the modern devices used in ghost hunting.

Rob Fenn returns to the podcast this week. Rob was one of the first guests, appearing on episode 13 in Season 1, and he is in person in the studio this time to catch us up on what he has been up to and some new stuff he is working on. Rob is most widely known for his work as a rock and roll photographer and just finished up chronicling the massive Twins of Evil tour with Rob Zombie and Marylin Manson. I also ask Rob about his barbershop and record store, Cut N Scratch, and how hard it is to run a business while you are constantly on the road. Speaking of being n the road, Rob is working on a book of anecdotes . and stories from countless tours he has been on, to show just how crazy of an adventure life can be. Even though he won't be naming any names in the book, he does tell us a behind the scenes story with Rob Zombie from a recent fan meet and greet.

Spooky Science Series Part 2 - The Science of Witches! Witches and witchcraft might be the farthest thing from actual science, but there are some parallels to be made. From the ideas of energy and vibration to the tools of witchcraft rituals, it is evident there is a little scientific discovery in those practices. Plus learn about some of the history surrounding caldrons and witches riding on brooms. Also, the terrible witch hunts of Europe and Salem, Massachusetts tried to come off as determining who was a witch through science, but was there really any science behind it?

Welcome to our 3 part 'Spooky Science' series to celebrate Haloween 2019. In part 1, I dissect the real science behind the most iconic monster of all, Dr. Frankenstein's creation. Mary Shelley wrote the famous story when she was 18 and might have been influenced by some of the scientific advances of her day. Plus, could a modern-day Dr. Frankenstein create a new version of the monster? I break down some of the science that could contribute to a truly monstrous creation.

    STREB - Elizabeth Streb Oct 10, 2019
    Show notes

Elizabeth Streb is a choreographer, a dance, and a teacher. Elizabeth is also an inventor, and innovator, and an action hero. When her Streb Extreme Action troupe came to Skidmore College in Upstate New York, I had the honor of sitting down with Elizabeth to talk about her career, her vision, and see her heroes in action. For more than three decades STREB has been touring the world and wowing audiences with Elizabeth's unique design and passion for the projects she creates. She wanted to fly at an early age, like really fly, and understood that to fly you must also come down. So she set out to do just that, and every performance from STREB Extreme Action is testament to what exactly the human body can achieve, how it can exist in the space in front of you, and how it can challenge your perceptions and emotions through movement. We also touch upon how she started SLAM, an artistic laboratory and action factory where all are welcome, located in Brooklyn New York. One of the most inspiring, and interesting conversations, I have had on this program, and I look forward to seeing more from STREB in the future.

SCIENCE: NASA revelas Black Hole animation Oct 06, 2019
    Show notes

On science this week from Fueled By Death Cast, NASA has released a stunning animation detailing exactly what we think a black hole would look like if you got close enough to observe it. With a lot of new data coming in all the time, we are finally starting to get a better understanding of this mysterious phenomenon in the universe. In fact, only earlier this year did we actually capture the first-ever picture of a black hole. Plus, the 2014 sc-fi movie Interstellar really did their homework as the movie depictions look surprisingly similar to these recent concepts from NASA. Then, I recently discovered a wonderful site called OCEARCH that is a hub for all the tracked sharks, whales, turtles, seals and more sea life in the ocean. You can follow your favorite species or become very informed about singular animals, and even donate to the no-profit organization to help further their research and provide curriculum for STEM programs. Since Dave joined the team, The World's Strongest Coffee has gone from being on the shelves of a handful of stores to almost 10,000 at the time of recording this episode, thanks to the tireless efforts of Dave Ratzer and Eric Donovan.

SCIENCE: Ask NASA Sep 29, 2019
    Show notes

On science this week from Fueled By Death Cast, NASA is rolling out a brand new series called #AskNASA. You can use the hashtag on Twitter to ask NASA a question and they might have an astronaut or scientist answer on one of the shows, premiering every Monday on nasa.gov. We replay the first episode which just so happens to feature astronaut Serena Aunon-Chancellor, who was drinking Death Wish Coffee on the International Space Station last year! Plus, NASA asked Brad Pitt some questions about his new movie Ad Astra to help start the whole series! Then, NASA is working with astronauts in space to develop a new understanding of asthma and how it can be treated both here on Earth, and on other worlds.
