Former NFL star Chad Johnson leaves $1K tip at NC restaurant Aug 05, 2022
    Show notes

Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson, a former wide receiver on the NFL’s Cincinnati Bengals, recently left a huge tip for one lucky server at a North Carolina restaurant.

On Wednesday, Johnson, 44, tweeted a photo of his bill from Stephanie’s Restaurant II in Greensboro.

Though his meal only cost $24.39, Johnson left a $1,000 tip, according to the post.

Along with the photo on Twitter, the former football great also included a Biblical citation in the caption: "Proverbs 11:25."

In the New International Version, that passage of scripture says: "A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed," according to Biblegateway.com.

Fox News Digital reached out to Johnson and Stephanie’s Restaurant II for comment.

Since Johnson posted the photo online, it has been retweeted 1,050 times and has garnered more than 19,300 likes.

"I was once a server," one person commented. "Seeing things like this is so touching. It’s amazing to see people give to servers."

"People don’t realize how much this stuff matters," another wrote, in part. "The tip is dope but showing love means the world esp [sic] working in the service industry."

This isn't the first time Johnson dropped a $1,000 tip for a restaurant worker.

In 2020, he left the same amount on a $37 tab at a Florida restaurant and shared a photo of the bill on Twitter. He captioned "Proverbs 11:25" on that post as well.

"Congrats on re-opening, sorry about the pandemic, hope this helps. I LOVE YOU," Johnson wrote on the bill.

Spanish coast guard rescues French sailor trapped for 16 hours in capsized boat Aug 04, 2022
    Show notes

Spanish coast guard divers rescued a 62-year-old French sailor who survived for 16 hours inside an air bubble of his capsized vessel as it drifted in the Atlantic Ocean, officials said Tuesday.

Spain's Maritime Safety and Rescue Society located the French sailboat Jeanne SOLO Sailor overturned about 14 miles from the Sisargas Islands off Spain's northwestern Galicia region, the agency said.

The 40-foot boat had set sail from Lisbon, Portugal, on Sunday morning, and sent a distress signal just before 9 p.m. on Monday, Reuters reported, citing the coast guard.

Rescuers located the overturned ship, and one diver was winched onto the hull to investigate whether anyone was alive, officials said. The trapped man responded to the diver’s knocks on the hull by knocking back.

Divers described the rescue operation as "verging on the impossible," the outlet reported.

The waters were too rough to attempt a rescue until morning, the agency said. Rescuers attached buoyancy devices to the hull to prevent the ship from sinking further.

Once morning arrived, two divers swam under the sailboat and found the man, who has not been identified, in water up to his knees.

The man was able to dive out of the ship on his own, with some help from the divers, and reach the surface of the ocean, the coast guard said.

He was treated at a hospital and later released.

"Each life saved is our biggest reward," Spain's Maritime Safety and Rescue Society said in a tweet.

Pennsylvania teen saves neighbors trapped in apartment fire with trampoline Aug 03, 2022
    Show notes

A quick-thinking Pennsylvania teen helped save his neighbors from a raging apartment fire early Tuesday by moving a trampoline underneath the windows so they could jump to safety, according to local reports.

The fire broke out just before 1 a.m. in Bentleyville and trapped multiple people inside, Bentleyville Fire-Rescue said.

Falon O'Regan, 17, jumped out of a window from the burning building and without hesitation looked for a way to help those still trapped in the blaze, WPXI-TV reported.

"Me and Robert, my neighbor downstairs, had to move the trampoline from the side of the house to the three bedrooms on the last part of the house because they would’ve gotten hurt if we didn’t," O’Regan told the station.

FLORIDA FIREFIGHTERS BATTLE MASSIVE HOUSE FIRE, SAY ARSON IS LIKELY THE CAUSE

Those forced to jump out of the windows were uneasy, but they told the station that they had no other choice.

One individual injured a leg and three others were treated for smoke inhalation, according to the report.

O’Regan’s mom, Becky Williams, described her son as a hero.

"I'm proud of him. We're suffering losses because we think we lost our cats. But he saved a lot of people today," Williams said.

Fire officials said that 12 adults and six kids were displaced as a result of the blaze and were being helped by the Red Cross.

The cause of the fire was still under investigation.

Bentleyville is located about 30 miles south of Pittsburgh.

Florida deputies rescue 'lost' sea turtle hatchlings wandering hotel grounds Aug 03, 2022
    Show notes

Florida deputies responded to an early morning call after a group of "very lost" sea turtle hatchlings were discovered wandering around a beach hotel, authorities said.

Pinellas County Sheriff’s Sgt. Mackesy, Deputy Lopez and Deputy Wheeler were called to the hotel in St. Pete Beach after a concerned security guard gathered 15 hatchlings and required backup to collect the numerous others, the sheriff’s office said.

When the deputies arrived, the baby sea turtles had spread over the hotel property to areas that included the pool, the bushes, a bathroom and a storm drain.

Mackesy called the on-duty Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation and Commission officer to learn how to assist the hatchlings with their maiden voyage.

SHARK! MAN IN NEW JERSEY CATCHES, THEN RELEASES, A 7-FOOT SAND TIGER SHARK

The officer instructed the deputies to release the turtles at the ocean’s edge and let them go toward the water on their own.

The three deputies can be seen on bodycam video releasing the sea turtle hatchlings on the shoreline and shining a flashlight into the water to help give the fledgling swimmers a helping hand.

"With some words of encouragement and guidance all the hatchlings made their way to the water successfully," the sheriff’s office said. "We think Finding Nemo’s pal Crush would be pretty proud of this crew and the deputies, too!"

Arizona man grows hair out for 2 years to make wig for mom fighting brain tumor Jul 27, 2022
    Show notes

An Arizona mom permanently lost her hair year four years ago after undergoing radiation to treat a reoccurring benign brain tumor.

Melanie Shaha's son, known for having a full head of strawberry blonde locks, embarked on a two-year journey to give her the ultimate gift: a new head of hair.

Matt Shaha, 27, who started his mission in early 2020, grew out his hair 12 inches before chopping it off and paying for a company to hand tie a wig.

It was a gift the mother of six could never have fathomed.

"When you wear a hat everywhere, you just stick out like a sore thumb," she said. "I don't mind being sick, but I do very much mind that I look sick."

Melanie had been battling the tumor on her pituitary gland since 2003. According to the Mayo Clinic, a pituitary tumor forms in the pituitary gland at the base of the brain and can cause changes in someone's hormone levels.

Although the tumor was benign, "it was in the wrong place and smashes important things, so you can't let it stay there," Melanie said.

After her first diagnosis, she underwent neurosurgery. Three years later, the tumor returned, and she had to undergo a second surgery.

In 2017, when the tumor returned for the third time, Melanie said she underwent radiation to keep the tumor from growing, and eventually shrink it.

However, the Arizona mom said there were lasting side effects.

"About three months after radiation, all my hair started to fall out, which I didn't know would happen," she said. "And the doctor said it won't come back."

Matt told FOX Business that the idea of growing out his hair for his mom was always in the back of his mind.

During one of his school breaks, he recalled turning to his mom and saying, "Maybe I'll grow it for you mom."

"Then it just kind of like clicked: Well, why don't I?" he added.

However, he wasn't able to begin growing out his hair while attending Brigham Young University because of the school's dress and grooming standards.

In March 2020, while finishing the rest of his senior year of college at home due to the outbreak of COVID-19, he was finally able to start.

"I knew it was a big ask and… there might be a time when it's not practical for his career or with sports or relationship-wise," Melanie said.

At the end of March 2022, when the time came to finally cut his hair, Melanie said she broke down in tears.

"The kindness, compassion and sacrifice from Matt has really been spectacular," she said. "He has shown a lot of love and concern."

Afterward, the 27-year-old sent the hair off to Compassionate Creations, a small business in Newport Beach, California, that specializes in building custom wigs for anyone experiencing hair loss.

"There are lots of places that you can cut your hair and donate it, but there are very few companies that will take your donated hair and make a wig for you," Melanie said.

By mid-June, the hair finally arrived and for the first time in four years, Melanie — sporting her son's long strawberry blonde locks — said she looked like herself again.

"It meant the world to see that project just kind of come to fruition and seeing how well it turned out," Matt said.

Michigan school shooting survivor amazes ‘America’s Got Talent’ judges with ‘inspiring’ audition Jul 27, 2022
    Show notes

An 18-year-old student who survived a school shooting in Oxford, Michigan, in 2021 took the stage Tuesday for an audition on "America’s Got Talent" with a song that she said helps her to "remember the good."

Ava Swiss, a senior at Oxford High School, got a standing ovation from all four judges – Simon Cowell, Sofia Vergara, Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel – after performing an emotional rendition of "Remember" by singer Lauren Daigle.

Klum called the performance "amazing," while Mandel said it was "inspiring."

"In life, it’s tough to show up, especially after going through incredible trauma," Mandel said. "The fact that you can break through that and shine the way you did today is so inspirational for every human being. So, you really shined."

Vergara said Swiss put her emotions on display in a performance that "took my breath away."

Cowell, known as a sometimes harsh critic, told Swiss that "this is one of those auditions I will never forget."

All four judges gave Swiss a "yes" to allow her to continue to the next round of the competition.

Before performing, Swiss told the judges "it’s been hard" since four of her fellow students were killed and seven others, including one teacher, were injured in the November 2021 shooting.

"I remember my community, my family, just the love," she said. "And I remember that it’s all there for me, and it’ll help me get to where I need to be."

The shooting suspect, Ethan Crumbley, is charged with first-degree murder, and his parents are charged with involuntary manslaughter for allegedly making a firearm accessible to their son.

Ohio couple celebrates 100th birthdays, 79 years of marriage: 'Been a good life' Jul 23, 2022
    Show notes

An Ohio couple celebrated 79 years of marriage last month, and now they’re celebrating a new milestone — their 100th birthdays.

June Malicote was born on July 13, 1922, while her husband, Hubert Malicote, was born 10 days later, on July 23, 1922.

Family, friends, neighbors and church members joined the couple on Friday, July 15, at the Eaton Road Church of God in Hamilton, Ohio, where a joint birthday party was held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Roughly 130 guests stopped by to celebrate with husband and wife.

"We just kind of live by the day and all of a sudden we're 100 years old," Hubert Malicote told Fox News Digital in a phone interview.

COUPLE RECREATES WEDDING 77 YEARS LATER AFTER ORIGINAL WEDDING DIDN'T HAVE PHOTOS

The longtime couple first met at the Eaton Road Church of God in 1941, which was under a different name at the time.

It was in September of that year that they attended a church revival with their respective friend groups.

Hubert had been sitting in the pew behind June — and at one point she looked back at him and smiled. He was smitten.

"After the service, down the street … was an ice cream parlor, so all of us young people went to the parlor, got ice cream and talked and had a nice little afternoon together," Hubert recalled. "There were no automobiles or anything. So, she went her way, and I went mine. I kind of thought about how I would make contact. And I decided that church was the best place."

"So come Sunday, I went to church, and she was there," he continued. "We sat together and talked and had a good relationship."

They repeated the routine for a few weeks — and their first official date was at a local county fair. Hubert said he remembers sharing his first kiss with June after the fair at June’s home.

"I didn't really know what to do," he said. "I was just barely 19 and kind of a country boy. And I thought, 'She's looking pretty dressed in red.'"

He added, "I reached over and hugged her a little bit and gave her a kiss."

He was so nervous about their kiss that he immediately ran out the door.

Naturally, he worried about whether June was mad about his impromptu flee. His mind rattled with thoughts throughout the week.

When he saw June again, there was "no animosity" and "all things were good."

Their friendship and romance continued to blossom for a year.

In November 1942, Hubert enlisted in the U.S. Navy to fight in World War II.

He did his training at the Naval Station Great Lakes in Illinois and later went to Newport, Rhode Island, for five months of torpedo school.

COUPLE LOSES 50-YEAR-OLD WEDDING ALBUM AS CAR IS HIJACKED AMID ANNIVERSARY TRIP

June stuck by his side and supported the war effort by building war goods at a machinery company in Ohio.

"Time was going fast. We needed to make a decision about what to do," Hubert said. "We decided it was time to get married."

With little time to waste, the couple made an overnight trip to Indiana to get a pre-marital blood test, which was a marriage license requirement at the time.

They immediately traveled back to Hamilton, so they could get married at the church where their relationship first began. June borrowed a dress from a cousin and fashioned a bouquet of roses out the church’s climbing rose porch.

UNCOVERED LOVE LETTER RECORDINGS FROM WORLD WAR II VETS

Their pastor pronounced them husband and wife on June 8, 1943.

Shortly after their intimate wedding, Hubert had to board a cross-country train for his deployment. He went from San Francisco to Honolulu.

He was stationed at Pearl Harbor and worked on torpedoes and submarine serpents for two years.

"We were not allowed any telephones or telegraphs — any kinds of communication that would identify where we were," Hubert told Fox News Digital. "One evening walking through the commissary, and there on the wall was a grass skirt."

"That kind of hit me with the idea," he said.

"If I could ship that back to [June], that just might give her some indication where I was. So, I packaged it up and shipped it to her and about two or three weeks [later], I got back a beautiful lady in a grass skirt. Well, that message went through, and we got the answer."

After Hubert concluded his service in 1945, he boarded a train home from San Diego.

"I sent a telegram to my wife [about] when I would be home," Hubert said. "As we pulled into the station in Anderson, Indiana, there was nobody on the platform. But walking along beside the train longer track was that beautiful little girl again, dressed real nice and beautiful. And the conductor said, ‘She's waiting for you.’ That was a good arrival."

The pair reunited, built their home on a five-acre ranch and raised three children, Jo, Sam and Theresa, who are all adults now.

"Now they're married and raising their families," Hubert said, noting that he and June have seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

"It's been a very, very happy marriage," he added.

June agreed that her marriage to Hubert has been great and they’re highly compatible.

She spoke intermittently due to a speech limitation due to a stroke she had two years ago.

"[It’s been] so easy to get along together," June said. "We have not even had a quarrel."

Their daughter, Jo Malicote, confirmed to Fox News Digital that she can’t recall a single time her parents have uttered a harsh word toward each other.

VIRGINIA COUPLE MARRIED FOR 30 YEARS CLAIM THEY'VE NEVER ARGUED

"We maybe have had disagreements. But we've always worked them out," Hubert said. "Our attitude has been that you don't hurt the one you love. And if you have an issue or quarrel, take care of it, don't let it grow, think it over, talk it out and solve the problem and go on with your life."

June, on the other hand, said keeping the peace was an easy thing to do since her husband is handsome.

The Malicotes are fixtures at their church and have each served in various teaching positions.

"My wife, with her music background, has been a choir director making cantatas for Christmastime, and she's done a real good job with it," Hubert said.

"I’ve always said that a happy home is where God is," he continued. "It’s just been a good life. Good teamwork. A good home."

So far, the couple doesn’t have a special birthday wish. They did blow out 100 birthday candles on their cake with help from their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Hubert said he’s not sure why he and his wife have been fortunate enough to share their 100th birthday together — but their daughter Jo said it’s likely in their genetics.

"Dad's mother was 104. Dad’s great-grandfather lived [for] 100 years, from 1822 to 1922," Jo told Fox News Digital. "So, they inherited good health."

Both June and Hubert’s families hail from Kentucky; their parents passed on their agricultural know-how.

"We raised chickens. Dad had his own beef cattle and we had our own meat, whether that was pork or beef or chicken," Jo said.

"Mom had several big gardens, and so we had green beans, corn, beets, lettuce — any vegetable that you could think of. If it grew in Ohio, we had it. And Mom canned it or froze it or dried it. So, we ate healthy before it became a thing."

She continued, "Now there's all the health magazines telling you to grow your own food. That’s how they grew up. Back in their day, if you didn't make your own food, you were going to starve to death."

"So, they learned how to do that as children. And that's how they raised us."

Jo Malicote added that she thinks the key to her parents’ longevity is that they’ve always kept busy.

"They've never sat down and gotten lazy," Jo concluded. "We own the five acres and there's always fences to mend and there is always work to do."

Texas man reunited with 27-year-old message in a bottle he wrote as a child Jul 22, 2022
    Show notes

It took 27 years, but a man in Texas has been reunited with a message that he and his childhood friends once wrote and left behind after placing it inside a bottle.

Over the weekend, a group with the Keep La Marque Beautiful Commission in the city of La Marque, found Brian Standefer's message in a bottle while picking up trash at Highland Bayou Park, FOX 26 Houston reported.

Standefer was about 10 years old when he and three friends wrote a note on a piece of cardboard, asking the finder to call one of two phone numbers. The message was likely written around 1995.

"If not home, leave it on answer [sic] machine," the note says. "Please leave phone #."

Standefer and his friends each signed the cardboard and placed it inside a bottle.

"We said, maybe one day we’ll be able to find this treasure," Standefer told FOX 26. "Honestly, I forgot about it."

The bottle – and the message inside – were found 27 years later.

Terry Pettijohn, who was picking up trash with the Keep La Marque Beautiful Commission in Highland Bayou Park on Saturday, was walking along the shore when he found the bottle, he told FOX 26.

"It was buried about halfway," Pettijohn told the station. "I said, ‘You know, I think we’ve got a note in the bottle.’"

Inside the bottle, Pettijohn found Standefer’s note.

Pettijohn told FOX 26 that he called the two numbers which were written on the note, but both were out of service.

The commission was still able to track Standefer down through Facebook and return the note, FOX 26 reported.

"I had to do a double take on the piece of cardboard," Standefer told the station about when he saw the note. "[I thought] that’s my phone number. That’s my handwriting. That’s my signature."

Standefer said he and his friends had dropped the bottle about two miles away from where it was found.

The discovery of the message and bottle has added meaning for Standefer since one of the friends who signed the note recently died, he told FOX 26.

"My best friend [Travis], he actually passed away a year-and-a-half ago," Standefer said. "This gives me goosebumps. He had something to do with it, shining down, saying, ‘Everything is going to be okay.’"

A Massachusetts police officer saved a choking two-month-old infant Wednesday night after the child's parents rushed the baby to the local police department.

Officer Ryan Porter encountered the parents as they rushed their infant inside the lobby of the Framingham Police Department shortly before 6 p.m. Wednesday.

A video posted to the social media account shows the parents, seemingly out of breath, handing over their child to the officer after immediately meeting them at the door.

Porter, who serves as a CPR instructor for the department, proceeded to evaluate the baby as it struggled to breath.

"Moments later the infant stopped breathing and Officer Porter delivered a series of back blows, which cleared the obstruction and allowed the infant to breathe," the department wrote in a Facebook post.

The video then cuts to Porter calmly rocking the baby as the father smiled.

The parents appeared relieved with the father bent over breathing as the mother placed a hand over her heart, seemingly still attempting to catch their breath and looking relieved.

"This happy outcome is a credit to the fast actions of the parents and Officer Porter," Framingham Police Department said. "Well done!"

The identity of the parents and infant were not released.
