We had so many thoughts about episode 110 of Motherland: Fort Salem that we had to record a two-part series of podcasts about it. Miraculously, we don't just wail into the microphone for 120 minutes, because believe me, that was a very real possibility.
In part one, we join our girls on Graduation Day, where their hopes and dreams of moving on to war college are promptly smashed by General Alder, who has not forgotten about their meddling from last episode. Their punishment is immediate deployment into battle. However, lucky for the trio they're not the only young girls meddling in Alder's affairs, as Khalida intervenes and gets them assigned to the mission to save the remaining Tarim tribe. Petra also gets involved and scores Abigail a position at war college anyway, but if you think our queen is about to abandon her girls to be deployed without her, you don't know her at all.
Meanwhile, Anacostia and Scylla continue their game of psychological warfare, before pausing to talk about their family back stories for awhile.
Out in the battlefield, we break down a fairly important scene between Alder and the Bellweather unit where all sides come to an unexpected understanding of each other, after some airing of grievances. Adil is there too, but he's just there to provide exposition and look cute in his little combat hoodie.
