    Forensic Tales

Not all stories have happy endings… Hosted by Courtney Fretwell, M.S. in Forensic Psychology, Forensic Tales is a weekly true crime podcast with a forensic twist. Each episode features real cases and explores how forensic science, criminal profiling, and investigative techniques were used to uncover the truth—or, in some cases, left more questions than answers. From fingerprint analysis and DNA evidence to bloodstain pattern analysis and behavioral profiling, every episode breaks down the science behind the headlines. Whether it's a solved murder, a cold case, or a controversial investigation, Forensic Tales takes you beyond the crime scene and into the forensic evidence that shaped the case.

    Show notes

#057 - In 1999, a teenager stumbled into the Hong Kong police department telling police officers she’d been having nightmares of a woman who had been kidnapped, tortured, and murdered.

The police followed the girl to the apartment and discovered that the place was entirely decorated in Hello Kitty décor. More disturbing than the décor, was what police officer’s found inside one of those Hello Kitty Dolls. A woman's skull had been sewn inside the head of a Hello Kitty mermaid doll.

Murder of Barbara Mullenix Jan 25, 2021
    Show notes

#056 - On September 13th, 2006, the body of a female victim washed ashore in the upscale city of Newport Beach, California. The victim had 52 stab wounds across her entire body. The knife was found still plunged into one of her eyes.

Unable to identify the victim through fingerprints, police looked to the serial number found on her breast implants to make the identification.

Police quickly zeroed in on their prime suspect, but as the investigation progressed, the forensic evidence seemed to point detectives in a completely different direction.

    Lisa Nowak Jan 18, 2021
    Show notes

#055 - Over the course of 48 hours in February 2007, decorated U.S. Astronaut and Navy Officer, Lisa Nowak, destroyed the life she spent 43 years meticulously crafting.
Lisa Nowak was accused of driving 900-miles cross country from Texas to Florida to confront a woman, who she saw as her rival. She took with her what many would describe as a “kill kit”. Gloves, a BB-gun, rubber tubing, a knife, and a pair of adult diapers.
What caused Lisa Nowak to go from a NASA Astronaut, to a convicted felon? And what did she really intend to do on her cross country trip?
