    Microalgae are microorganisms which were used as food in ancient civilizations. These microorganisms which are found in seawater or freshwater are capable of performing photosynthesis and have more than 25,000 species identified. On this episode we continue our conversation on alternative protein innovation by discussing microalgae with Yonatan Golan, the Co-founder and CEO of Brevel.

    In this episode we will learn the different benefits microalgae has to offer and how this can be leverage to support sustainable and healthy protein consumption. Yonatan has been leading Brevel's growth from a small startup to a global innovative player in the microalgae industry, raising more than $9M and winning various awards and global recognition. Prior to Brevel, he co-founded and managed a food co-op with more than 400 member-workers for 4 years between 2012-2016 and led it through its profitability and growth stages. He holds an MSc in biophysics with a publication in Nature on his work in immune T-cells physics.

    Dan Reigler is the Co-Founder of KARANA, a Singapore and US based company that makes meat from whole plants. Always extremely passionate about both food and sustainability, for the last decade he has developed a deep knowledge of the agriculture, food tech, and financial inclusion sectors.

    In 2018 after connecting with co-founder, Blair Crichton, the two were inspired by a mutual love of the rising food tech space and biodiversity to start KARANA in Singapore. Just three years later, it has a suite of jackfruit based "meat" products available in two international cities with a third launch upcoming later in 2021.

    Dan has a BA in International Studies from the University of North Carolina and an MBA from Columbia Business School.
