    Dr. Allison Collins is a pediatrician, certified culinary medicine specialist, and board-certified lifestyle medicine specialist who focuses on helping children, teens, and families prevent, treat, and reverse chronic diseases through lifestyle changes. As Director of Lifestyle and Culinary Medicine at Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara, she developed the Cook for Health program and leads intensive lifestyle medicine programs for both pediatric and adult patients. Dr. Collins regularly teaches plant-forward culinary medicine classes and conducts cooking demos for patients and healthcare providers. A Fulbright Scholar and American Nutrition Society Fellow, she is affiliated with the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Lifestyle Medicine.

    On this episode, Dr. Graham joined us to discuss a food-first approach to medicine and healthcare.

    Dr. Graham is a Harvard-trained researcher and physician, board-certified in both Internal and Integrative Medicine, trained in Holistic and Functional Medicine, a public health scientist, health service researcher, TED speaker, food activist, and Chef. Together with his wife, Julie launched FRESH Medicine.

    FRESH is an acronym for the five ingredients in their recipe to health: Food, Relaxation, Exercise, Sleep and Happiness.

    Dr. Graham received a Master’s of Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health while

    completing three additional fellowships in General Internal Medicine and Complementary and

    Integrative Medical Therapies at Harvard Medical School as well as Medical Education at Mount Auburn

    Hospital in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In 2018, Dr. Graham became one of less than fifty doctor/chef’s

    worldwide, as he obtained his culinary degree from the Natural Gourmet Institute.

    Dr. Graham is a "food fighter" and a leader in the field of Integrative/Functional and Holistic Medicine

    has prescribed “food as medicine” for over 20 years. Dr. Graham prescribes the "FRESH 5" for health

    and healing and has witnessed many patients get off their medications and live happier, more fulfilling

    lives. He is an expert in gut health and testing (SIBO, IBS, GERD, Leaky Gut), chronic disease (high blood

    pressure, diabetes, depression/anxiety, obesity, back pain) prevention and autoimmune disease

    (Hashimoto, arthritis, psoriasis) and management. He believes in food as medicine, is trained in herbs

    and dietary supplements and when needed prescribes medications.

    Dr. Jennifer Kuk, PhD, is currently a Professor in the School of Kinesiology and Health Science at York University. She has published over 130 scientific papers, reports, and chapters related to obesity, health, and lifestyle behaviors, and is an author of the Canadian Adult Obesity Clinical Practice Guidelines.

    Currently, her laboratory is investigating the relationship between obesity and health through clinical human studies and epidemiological approaches. In particular, she is interested in the characterization of the metabolically normal obesity phenotype and is currently working on factors that identify successful weight management in adult and pediatric patient populations. This work will help to clarify the most optimal weight management strategies for maintaining and improving health.
