After an email from a fabulous teen listener, I put together my thoughts on how to avoid toxic friendships for this episode. While sharing a good deal from a book I'm reading with my teens: The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teenagers. It's a fun book with pictures and short stories highlighting each habit, give it a try!

    #15 A Teen with Depression Jun 14, 2019
    Show notes

I love that Claire will willing to chat about her Depression and help dispel the stigma that it should be kept in secret. She's learned from her mom that having depression is just like a common cold, and isn't to be met with shame.

Our Amazon episode product is an ear bud case, listen as to WHY!

I also asked if anyone is interested in becoming an intern for the podcast, message me on Instagram or email me: kristenduke@gmail.com

#14 Shutting Out Negative Thoughts Jun 01, 2019
    Show notes

Learning to shut out negative thoughts is something that so many teens struggle with. I spoke about this a bit in Fist Bump episode #3 Battling Insecurities. So if you haven't already listened to that one, DO IT!

I had my family listen recently to two different podcasts recently, all of us together, with plans to listen to the third. It's great to be able to listen with someone else, take notes, and then discuss. That's what we did, one on a car trip, one in our family room. All are linked below for easy listening.

    1. Fist Bump episode #7 on Anxiety and Perfectionism with Leigh Germann, she is a therapist and
    2. Oprah's Super Soul Podcast: Michael Singer-- Free Yourself from Negative Thoughts
    3. Overcoming Anxiety by Brooke Castillo (this is the one we haven't listened to altogether yet, but I listened solo and really want them to hear).

If you struggle with negative thoughts, PLEASE take the time to listen to the above links.

Consider shopping on AMAZON going through our store to support this podcast. Anything you buy, when going first through this link within 24 hours, helps!

Head on over to Instagram and message me about anything we discussed or questions you want me to ask my teen friends who recently graduated from high school! @FistBump.Podcast on Instagaram.

In this episode I'm talking with Amber about Body Confidence and steps we can all take to obtain it. She talks about the difference between comparison and competition, and the importance of CARBS in life!

Resilience and self love is so important, because we will experience people in our life that don't like us, but what we really need is to remember long term. She shares some steps on how to do that in this episode.

AMAZON ITEM FOR THE EPISODE: Strength training bands

I also talked about a book that my kids and I will be discussing this summer on Instagram, every Monday at 10am CENTRAL called: The 7 Habits for Highly Effective Teens.

    #012 Survivors Guilt May 17, 2019
    Show notes

Surviving childhood leukemia brought on a great deal of survivors guilt for Jamie. She felt like a disappointment, uncertain why she survived when she had known so many other cancer patients that she adored, who weren't so lucky.

She was bullied in high school, felt angry towards her parents, and just didn't understand why she was so special to have survived. She speaks of her suicide attempts, wanting to quiet the voices in her head.

As an adult, and coming through on the other side, she travels around teaching youth about the importance of talking to someone when they are in these dark places.

I was happy to hear her weigh in on Affirmations, because it's a HOT TOPIC right now. She spoke about the power behind the positive words we speak, when we start to believe them.

    #011 Middle School Crush May 10, 2019

Last week I told you I was going to delve into my teenager journals, and in this episode, I'm telling you about my first BIG crush in middle school!

I got some good laughs looking back, but also pretty pleased to see that middle school ME had a healthy dose of self confidence.

I truly believe that in writing we discover ourselves, and I hope you've taken the challenge to practice.

Come chat about it with me on Instagram: @FistBump.Podcast

#010 The Path to Self Discovery May 03, 2019
    Show notes

"Writing regularly is the path to self discovery." My husband gave me a gift last year with this quote attached, and I have thought about it over and over since then.

As a teenager, I was an avid journal writer, and looking back, I truly believe that because I wrote so much about my day, my friends, my feelings, my frustrations, that I developed a good healthy dose of self confidence and awareness. I really got to know and understand myself, and that has really benefitted me in my life.

Come listen to my thoughts on this, and since it's episode TEN, I've issued a challenge that I'd love your help with and a reward for joining in! Make sure you are following @FistBump.Podcast on Instagram!

I loaded the AMAZON STORE with a few cute journals and I encourage you to also check out SIMPLY FORTIFY for some really nice journals.

I also referenced MY LOVE STORY in the intro if you'd like a nice beach reach this summer!

    #009 // Be Actively Engaged Apr 27, 2019
    Show notes

I got a fabulous review from "Boo Boo" and they suggested I share an episode on how to be more active, because they said teens can be on their phone too much. So I took that info and made this episode to address that concern.

I shared some info from two posts I've written previously on KristenDuke.com which are these:

    • Benefits of Outdoor Activities
    • 25 Exercise Ideas to do with family or friends

    AMAZON favorites for TEENs

Thanks for the iTunes reviews, and come share your favorites activities on the FistBump.Podcast Instagram page!

    #008 Dating and Waiting Apr 19, 2019
    Show notes

I am so thrilled to have my amazing friend of 35 years on the podcast today talking about Dating and Waiting (for marriage to have sex). She is gorgeous, athletic, and has one of the coolest jobs I know, but hasn't found "the one" yet.

She shares about making a promise to herself when she was a teenager, and how that has been tested, but she has held her ground, having integrity.

She talks about how she's seen other have loneliness, commitment issues, feelings of insecurity doing what "everyone else is doing." Whatever you choose for yourself, I hope this inspires you to love yourself, and have integrity.

    >>>Our Amazon episode product is a few cute prom dresses I found as well as a mens suit and tie set I found, so check out this weeks FAVORITES FOR TEENS on this link right there.

    >>>If you aren't already following on the @FistBump.podcast instagram page, head there to see pictures of my friend and I!
