How Bitcoin Helped This Small Business Owner Bridge The International Gap Sep 07, 2017
    Show notes

Founder/CEO, Elyse Petersen, of Tealet, runs a cutting edge, online tea company, whose success is derived from a passion for tea, crypto technology and overall global wellness. Elyse shares her experiences of the trials, tribulations and eventual triumphs of doing business across borders. Part of her goal in making Tealet a success was to find the answer to one of the biggest problems she noticed: the end profit the local farmer was receiving after foreign transactions fees and everyone else got their cut. Elyse saw an opportunity here to use the power of bitcoin to overcome some of these obstacles, cutting those fees and in the end bridging the gap between consumer and grower. BIO: ELYSE PETERSEN – FOUNDER/CEO Elyse Petersen is a Global Tea Ambassador with the International Tea Farms Alliance. She has spent time working with tea farmers in Wazuka, Kyoto, Japan. This experience has inspired her to help tea culture across the U.S. and around the world. Petersen is an experienced international development worker in the area of food security, natural resource management, and sustainable food preservation, having served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Niger, West Africa and Antigua and Barbuda, Eastern Caribbean. Elyse graduated from Shidler College of Business with a Japan-focused M.B.A and from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona with a B.S. in Food Science and Technology. Hudson Jameson of Oaken Innovations – Blockchain Security for IoT Devices Sep 06, 2017
    Show notes

Hudson Jameson, co-founder and COO of Oaken Innovations, discusses the need for a layer of blockchain security for IoT devices, how it works, and the surprising ways it can be used. When IoT devices were first being designed, security wasn't their biggest concern. Because of this, it is possible for unauthorized individuals to break into your device's vulnerable points. While this may not be a huge concern for devices like baby monitors, it will be critical for devices such as autonomous cars. Oaken Innovations' solution is to use ethereum blockchain, and other distributive storage and centralized solutions, to make sure that transactions have true machine-to-machine payment and security, while simultaneously having this security layer function in the background. They have tested their solutions on cars, and even on utility meters, and have won a government-sponsored Hackathon. For more information, to get involved, or to hear some exciting end-of-year updates, visit www.oakeninnovations.com.

Colin Pape — Presearch: A Decentralized Search Engine, Powered by the Community Sep 06, 2017
    Show notes

Search engines have a lot of power in the online world, a function of determining which information and web pages show up in a search. Much of this is done without oversight, as these search engines don't always explain their page ranking systems, can subtly manipulate your search terms, and may even set aside space on the search results page to promote their own products. Presearch allows it users to search directly within a website's database, and go directly to search results. It also allows users to customize their own settings, such as preferential rankings for local businesses over big-box stores, and allows the community to vote on rankings and fund development projects for the benefit of the platform. For more information, to get involved, or to take part in their upcoming token sale on September 7, visit www.presearch.io.

ICO Crackdown is HERE – China, Russia, USA, Israel, South Korea – What to do about it? Sep 05, 2017
    Show notes

Literally every single day in crypto news, a different country is cracking down on ICOs. China just banned ICOs altogether; Russia blocked all but accredited investors from buying tokens! the United States and the SEC (securities and exchange commission) are issuing guidance, shutting down ICOs, and starting to crack down on unregistered securities. John Gotts, founder of Stokens.com and TXSRB.org (Token Exchange Self Regulating Body) is sounding the alarm – if we, the crypto community don't self regulate, we WILL be regulated, and we're NOT going to like it. If you listen to no other podcast, ever, LISTEN TO THIS ONE, especially if you hold tokens, are a developer, founder, investor, or CEO of a token and have created an ICO in the past or are contemplating one now.

Michael Gord and the Blockchain Education Network Bottom-Up, Global Blockchain Education for the Next Generation Sep 05, 2017
    Show notes

It started as a single technology club on the campus of McGill University in Montreal, QC. "I recognized that the college cryptocurrency existed, and I wanted to get Montreal involved," says Michael Gord. But before long, Michael Gord also recognized that the idea behind what would become the Blockchain Education Network (BEN) had the potential-and perhaps even the need- to go global. Though its reach is now global, BEN has maintained its unique, student-centered, bottom-up approach to blockchain education by bringing "massive value to any local university club or any local regent leader that's trying to grow the blockchain community in their area, by connecting them with speakers for events, sponsors for events, media for events and general best practices to improve events." Among many exciting projects and initiatives on the horizon, Gord also has plans to speak on behalf of the Blockchain Education Network at the upcoming Bitcoin, Ethereum and Blockchain SuperConference. Hit play to hear more. Gord also discusses: How to get involved with and who to contact for the upcoming Blockchain Gauntlet BEN's contribution to the Beginner's Track at the upcoming SuperConference The upcoming global Bitcoin Airdrop, which will introduce people to the idea of cryptocurrency in a fun and safe environment How anyone can help develop a BEN course (and earn a percentage of Bitcoin!)

Sunil Madhu – Combating Fraud with an Alternative Identity Verification Method Sep 05, 2017
    Show notes

"Fraud causes global governments several trillions of dollars of loss annually from a GDP perspective, so it's a big problem for global economic growth," says Sunil Madhu, Founder and CEO of Socure. According to Madhu, a big part of the problem stems from the current bureau-based identity verification process that many businesses use for establishing new customers. Socure offers an alternative method; one that uses predictive analytics machine learning to compare and evaluate information that is given in the real world by potential new customers with information in the digital world. In a matter of seconds, Socure's machine learning models are able to differentiate between risky and non-risky profiles, and to accurately predict whether or not an individual poses a fraud risk. Socure has already been used across 108 countries and continues to grow. Tune in to learn more. Madhu also discusses: How the trends of the emerging population of millennials are making identity verification more difficult The types, trends and demographics of fraud What the near future holds for Socure, and how to stay connected

The SEC's Coming Crackdown: Is your ICO (Initial Coin Offering) a Security Offering? Aug 31, 2017
    Show notes

John Gotts of Stokens.com and Michael Taggart of Bitshares offer a revealing, shocking, and downright scary analysis of the current climate of SEC regulation and the coming crackdown on ICOs (initial coin offerings). The Howie Test, created in the 1940s, shows that many ICOs and blockchain based companies may be headed for a problem with the SEC (securities and exchange commission) because their ICOs may be classified retroactively as a security offering, and therefore in violation of federal laws in the United States. John & Michael have created a self-regulating body, called TXSRB.org (Token Exchange Self Regulating Body) that hopes to 'fix' broken or non compliant blockchain asset companies that may be headed for legal trouble. This podcast is a MUST LISTEN not only for blockchain companies, but for any investor, miner, or hodler in the crypto space.

Jay Berg — Upcoming Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Blockchain Super Conference Speaker Aug 31, 2017
    Show notes

Jay Berg's speech will hit on several different topics, including his new initiative, Private Key Capital Management. This initiative was begun as a way to provide institutional investors in cryptocurrency a secure way to store their crypto, without allowing anyone, either internally or externally, access to take it. Growing this initiative would help persuade more institutional investors to invest in crypto, as crypto has become the first non-correlated asset class in decades. Jay will also talk about how even though crypto is supposed to be mathematically impossible, as it doesn't have a centralized authority, Satoshi has created a pragmatic solution to this problem, and made it practically possible. Finally, Jay's speech will talk about current and upcoming problems in cryptospace, including peer-to-peer applications and bandwidth.
