I was going to start with “You may remember Sharon from such films as…”, but of course - that ‘may’ is redundant and superfluous. You KNOW her from such films as Basic Instinct, Sliver, Casino and SO so many more, and her filmography is as strong as it gets with appearances in all kinds of great movies dating back to the early 80’s. She and Brett meet in her garden (with a remote Brett in his house), for a very fun, interesting and revealing chat which goes into her past acting experiences, life and important work she’s been involved with around the world. Dearest listeners! Please be welcome to a very special episode of Films To Be Buried With, as Brett revisits episode 23 with comedian Dane Baptiste. With events unfolding over the past week, it felt right to shine a light on a past episode (this one from December 13th 2018) but also catch up with Dane about everything happening at this moment. Now we have that out of the way, you’re all set to get VERY deep into all kinds of rabbit-holes from where Dane will pluck you and then show you the inner-workings of the matrix that is around us… A fascinating chat, which includes some goodies involving Dane discovering his own creative journey ahead of him, theories on all sorts (death, cinema, culture, the lot), being raised by women and the “boys don’t cry” attitude, hood films, the secrets behind the media, 90’s black stereotypes in film, the importance of representation, guns, martial arts, and just all manner of jewels being strewn around all over the shop. Pure goodies for you this week as Brett has a good old fashioned longform chat with Tony, and we all get to know each other that little bit more and it’s all lovely and cosy. I think I find it cosy because Brett recorded this with Tony back in them old pre-lockdown days so there’s that sense of TWO PEOPLE IN A ROOM TALKING! Anyway - it’s a really good one in any sense, as they get along great and Tony’s been in some ace stuff, so yo can expect to hear some jewels dropped on that very subject, including his bootcamp experience (I’ll leave that to him), SALACIOUS Tom Cruise stories (beat that, Buxton and Cornish!), the fine line between happy and emotionally repressed, Star Trek annoyances (I mean we all carry some, right?) and sequel controversies. I’m breaking all kinds of walls here by speaking in the first person throughout but may I say that I’m very impressed by his drum & bass knowledge when he talks about tracks that sampled Predator 2. That is WELL in my wheelhouse right there. Anyway - fourth wall all fixed and back to normal - please enjoy the brilliant TONY WAY!

Brett has hit his lockdown swing a good three or four weeks into this whole mindbending situation, and following his past two week triumphs with the whole zoom recording revelation, he’s going in AGAIN with the great Shappi! A lovely and wide ranging, deep conversation which hits on some surprisingly touching and heartfelt moments. Everything from lockdown thoughts and how working from home has offered her some much needed time with the fam, how her being home so much has turned the cat and dog into trained killers and providers but also messed with the rodent ecosystem somewhat, the existential maladies of having children and some truthful moments, being raised atheist, her genius kids who deliver insight beyond their years, her love of the masculine side of cinema (including Scarface and Rambo of course), and her books and plans and all that good stuff! Go and enjoy, it’s fantastic!
• Just a quick note - as Brett mentions in the intro, I had a bit of a rough time getting this one into listenable shape due to some crazy connection and tech issues, but I did what I could! It’s not perfect, but after a few minutes your ears thankfully adjust and you’ll be fine. A follow on from your previous week's guest, dear listener, as Sarah is the partner of Catherine Bohart and together they host the insanely great 'You'll Do Podcast. In fact I barely had to change last week’s intro paragraph above as it is perfectly fitting! It’s a treat to catch Brett and Sarah in conversation, again in isolation as we deal with the current ongoing situation, and there’s some real nice up top chat about coping in the behind closed doors way in which many of us are. She nails it by referring to the mix of Blitz spirit and despair, but things don’t end there by any means - we hear about how okay her partner is (no really, she’s fine!), the fact that standups face a unique situation in not having that audience feedback of a crowd (which leads to a fantastic idea about doing cold-call crowd work), and of course you get the usual unique observations about life, love, death, the afterlife or lack thereof and all of that good good stuff.
