Hyper Epic Legendary Pop-Culture Ultimate Showdown

Every week we throw movies, video games, comic books, TV shows, anime, crypto, tier lists, fast food menus, and whatever else Twitter is yelling about into a neon-lit Japanese-style arena and force them to fight for supremacy. Expect unhinged hot takes, 45-minute arguments over whether Goku could predict the Ethereum charts, mandatory punishment games, airhorns at random, and at least one host crying by the end. If your favorite franchise leaves the episode without emotional damage, we didn’t do our job.

House of the Dragon | King of the Narrow Sea Sep 17, 2022
    Show notes

Rhaenyra travels to Storm's End where she meets and rejects countless suitors. She returns to King's Landing just as Prince Daemon arrives from the Stepstones on his dragon, Caraxes. Daemon says he was named "King of the Narrow Sea" but swears allegiance to King Viserys and gives the king his crown. As the reunited brothers celebrate at a feast, Queen Alicent confides her loneliness to Rhaenyra, who misses their friendship. Late at night, Rhaenyra, disguised as a boy, sneaks out with Daemon to explore King's Landing; they drink, attend a bawdy play, and visit a brothel where Daemon seduces a willing Rhaenyra, but abandons her before they have sex. Returning to the Red Keep, Rhaenyra seduces Ser Criston. A spy informs Ser Otto about Daemon and Rhaenyra's exploits. Alicent overhears Ser Otto telling the king. She privately questions Rhaenyra, who denies having had sex with Daemon. The king angrily confronts Daemon, who seemingly confirms the accusations and proposes that he wed Rhaenyra. Viserys claims Daemon only wants the marriage to gain the crown, then exiles his brother back to the Vale. To avoid scandal, Viserys orders Rhaenyra to marry Ser Laenor Velaryon. The king dismisses Ser Otto as his Hand, at Rhaenyra's insistence, feeling that Otto has manipulated him for personal gain. The king has Grand Maester Mellos give Rhaenyra a precautionary abortifacient tea. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/tradepaperbacks/message --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/rangerryan/message

    Show notes

Galadriel and Halbrand are picked up by a ship captained by Elendil, who takes them to Númenor, an island kingdom ruled by Men. Relations between the island and the Elves have grown strained, and Queen Regent Míriel denies Galadriel's request for a ship back to Middle-earth. Galadriel visits Númenor's Hall of Lore with Elendil and discovers that the mark of Sauron is actually a map of the Southlands where a new realm for evil forces is planned. She also learns that Halbrand, who is imprisoned after fighting some Númenóreans, is the king of the Southlands. As the Harfoots prepare for their seasonal migration, the stranger is revealed while trying to read some star maps. He comes with them as they migrate, pushing Nori's wagon since her injured father is unable to. Arondir has been captured by Orcs and taken to a construction camp digging underground passages so Orcs can travel during the day. His Elven compatriots have also been captured and are killed during an attempted escape. Arondir is taken to the leader of the Orcs, Adar, which they speculate to be one of the names of Sauron. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/tradepaperbacks/message --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/rangerryan/message

    Show notes

For three years, the conflicts in the Stepstones region have escalated. Lord Corlys and Prince Daemon battle Craghas Drahar and his pirates without support from the Crown, which remains neutral regarding the southern realm situation. Meanwhile, King Viserys plans a great hunt to celebrate his and pregnant Queen Alicent's son Aegon's second birthday. Rhaenyra resents the attention her father continually heaps on Aegon. Their relationship is further strained by the ailing king's insistence that Rhaenyra marry to form a strong alliance and protect their lineage. Among many suitors, Lord Jason Lannister of Casterly Rock, seeks to wed Rhaenyra, though she refuses. Lord Strong recommends that Rhaenyra wed Ser Laenor Velaryon, Lord Corlys' son, to repair the rift between their two houses. On his brother Hobart's advice, Otto urges Alicent to persuade the king to name Aegon as heir, furthering the Hightowers' power and prestige. Viserys assures Rhaenyra she will always remain the heir and can choose who to marry. Also, the king relents and sends aid to the Stepstones as Daemon, Lord Corlys, his brother Vaemond, and the remaining House Velaryon soldiers fight a losing battle against Triarchy forces. Ser Laenor arrives on his dragon Seasmoke and helps defeat the enemy.
