Show notes

The franchise goes international for this next entry, the one that is usually regarded by fans as the best, and we do not disagree. It's time for us to gush about one of the most perfect action films ever made. We love it. It's in the Trophy Room. Listen and find out why. Salute, mi familia.

Episode 234: Fast and Furious Jun 23, 2020

Show notes

Though many dislike this entry, we have a fondness for this particular film in the Fast Saga and think it is severely underrated. In this episode we gush about how Justin Lin starts to take this franchise down new roads while solidifying character relationships we've come to love and giving us a healthy dose of mostly still grounded racing action.

Episode 232: 2 Fast 2 Furious Jun 08, 2020

Show notes

We continue our fast and furious summer with a conversation about one of the most disliked sequels in the franchise. Changing directors, relocating to Miami, and introducing Brian O'Connor to an entirely new group of friends, this film stays in line with the grounded nature of the first but trades some of its emotional heft for a little extra style. We discuss both the ways it was a pleasant surprise and its slight missteps.

Show notes

This week's early episode drop features discussion on the newest comedy from "The Big Sick" director Michael Showalter and star Kumail Nanjiani, a film in which the latter is half of a couple on the outs who stumble into a crime caper and hilariously try and salvage their relationship over the course of one crazy night. We chat about what makes a movie funny, the importance of cast chemistry, and whether or not trauma is actually good for mending relationship troubles in our conversation.

Episode 229: The Amazing Spider-Man 2 May 18, 2020

Show notes

In this week's episode, we finish up discussing Andrew Garfield's turn wearing the Spider-Man mask. Our feelings on this sequel are a little more contentious, but there is no doubt plenty to talk about between its two empathetic villains, beautiful romance, and ultimately one of the most iconic and tragic comic deaths of all-time.

FF Black Label - "It's Because of Slavery" May 14, 2020

Show notes

"Black Label" is a special series that began during Black History Month 2020 where four Critics of Color sit down to discuss their love for movies. This special series highlights perspectives in film criticism that are vital to the culture because they are for the culture. In this episode, our round-table pushes through the "Rona" as they try and reconcile the Systemic Oppression and the "Nature vs Nurture" thematic elements in the new Netflix drama, "All Day and a Night". They also tackle the new Netflix series "BlackAF" from Kenya Barris, creator of ABC's Blackish, and discuss how the show navigates the notions of being "Black Enough," "Black on Black Criticism," and "White Criticism on Black Content".
