P’town brings in many of the top LGBT entertainers who are often required by the venue they are performing in to hustle the crowds to fill the seats for their shows, which some find absolutely humiliating.

FOF #2191 – Miss Understood on To Wong Foo: Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar Jul 23, 2015

Show notes

It’s the 20 year anniversary of To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar, the unusual film that came out on the heels of the very successful Priscilla Queen of the Desert.
To Wong Foo put three A-list actors in full drag but unlike Priscilla, we bareley saw the drag queens out of drag as human beings, which gave the whole film a very surreal feel.
On top of that, the beginning and end of the film featured pretty much every famous drag queen at the time, including RuPaul in a Confederate Flag dress as Miss Rachel Tension, the pageant queen who sends Patrick Swayze, John Leguizamo and yes, Wesley Snipes on a road trip across America in full drag.
Joining us today is one of the queens prominently featured in the opening scene, Miss Understood. She’s taking us on a road trip back in time, from her work at Lucky Cheng’s with Laverne Cox to booking some of the world’s top drag queens and all the Drag Race girls before they were on that show.
Plus-
➤ One thing you can do to get more bookings as a drag queen.
➤ Yes Felicia, there is a Thai Gay naughty film parody of Jurassic World, with drag queens.

Thanks to her doll-like makeup, her quirky sense of humor and her willingness to tirelessly engage fans, Trixie has a brand that’s peaked the interest of the business world.
Forbes, a business magazine, recently wrote about what businesses can learn about connecting to their loyal customers by looking at how America’s top drag queens like Trixie relate to their super fans.
Today Trixie Mattel joins us to talk about why it’s so important to say yes to everything, the taping of Drag Race’s season finale and how to get media (like us) interested in what you do.

FOF #2143 – Trixie Mattel: A Deeper Shade of Pink Apr 03, 2015

Show notes

Trixie Mattel weeped in front of a live audience in Berlin as she watched her dreams get crushed after unexpectedly getting booted off of RuPaul’s Drag Race.
Audiences everywhere booed RuPaul’s decision, saying neither Trixie nor Pearl should have been up for elimination. Even Lady Bunny and Alaska voiced their support with #justice4trixie.
Others say this is just a cheap attempt by the producers to get people talking and watching the reality TV show. If that’s the case, we’re all in.
Today Trixie Mattel gives us a deeper shade of pink and she shares with us the intense emotions she felt after being forced to lip sync for her life against her gal pal Pearl.
Plus,
➤ Trixie’s past as gay country singer songwriter Brian Firkus.
➤ How to move forward when you don’t get what you want.
➤ How soon before Trixie releases her inevitable single.
