Feast of Fun: Gay Talk Show

Interviews with amazing people, comedians and LGBTQ+ legends, with pop culture and politics wrapped up in a delicious candy coating of camp.

Hosted by Puerto Rican drag queen Fausto Fernós and his husband, Norwegian reality TV star Marc Felion, Feast of Fun began as one of the original 50 podcasts featured on iTunes in 2006, and celebrated by Apple: Feast of Fun “helped bring podcasting from an underground movement to a mainstream phenomenon.” Five time winner of the People’s Choice Podcast Award for Best LGBT podcast.

We’ve done thousands of shows with wonderfully wild people, LGBTQ legends and their friends, and tackle the tough questions like: is Sasquatch a drag queen? How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll pop?

Subscribe and join us as we chat with gay musicians, counterculture comedians, trans pirates, lesbian warriors and pagan witches and celebrate the ridiculous and transform pain into pleasure.

FOF #2909 - How to Pass the Audition By Fearlessly Being Yourself Nov 20, 2020
    Show notes

Some folks get so nervous about going into a job interview or an audition, that their minds can’t stop thinking about those over the top demanding directors from films like A Chorus Line, All that Jazz, The Producers, Flashdance and even Showgirls.
Although those scenes certainly create some horrifying expectations, how real are they? Are dancers supposed to pick up all those moves in seconds? If we slut it up, will we break down the icy wall of the establishment? I really need this job!
Today we’re talking to acting teacher, filmmaker and director Anthony Meindl about how to put all expectations aside and be your authentic self- in your everyday life or at your job, even if you’re auditioning to be a star on Broadway.
Listen as we chat with Anthony about growing up gay in the Midwest and other fabulous stories from his new memoir, You Knew When You Were 2 and his feature film Where We Go From Here which explores relationships forever changed by gun violence including the Pulse Nightclub shooting.

Has anyone ever said this to you? Heavy, heavy, you got so heavy baby. You better lose some weight.
Telling someone to get in shape doesn’t really do anything, and in fact some studies show that it has the opposite effect.
But let’s face it, Americans are caught in the middle of an obesity epidemic, where billions of dollars are made by keeping people sick and out of shape.
Today writer Zach Stafford, joins us to take a look at fat shaming, how he overcame his own eating disorder and how to inspire change in others by transforming your own life.
    Plus–
    • Haters on the Net start a Zach Stafford masculine meme. Here’s a transparent file to help y’all make more!

FOF #2908 - How Match Game Put ‘Blank’ Into Popular Culture Nov 17, 2020
    Show notes

The TV game show Match Game was canceled in 1963 for being too bland and not connecting with viewers. Figuring you couldn’t get canceled twice, the show’s writers put in cheeky questions designed to make the contestants blush at the celebrity panel’s witty banter and sexual innuendo. It won audiences back over and it stayed on the air until 1969.
The game show then brought back as Match Game 73 and was nominated for several Emmys. Its risqué humor changed the tone of daytime TV game shows forever.
Today camp culture historian A. Ashley Hoff takes us on a backstage tour of Match Game, the orange shag carpeted TV game show where our favorite gay icons cracked up the audience as they “filled in the blank” over cocktails.
    A. ASHLEY HOFF: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100011534019843
Ashley’s book, Match Game 101: A Backstage History of Match Game,is an in-depth look into the making of the iconic game show and features interviews with the fabulous celebrities who made host Gene Rayburn’s circus come to life as the hottest cocktail party on TV.
Listen as we “blank” with Ashley about:
➤ Brett Somers, Fannie Flagg, Richard Dawson and why Mae West was never a celebrity guest.
➤ Charles Nelson Reilly’s wonderfully queer showbiz career from Broadway to Sid & Marty Kroftt’s Lidsville, to life as one of the most beloved talk show personalities.

Outrageous Fitness Trends Nov 16, 2020
    Show notes

Fitness is a journey not a destination. Unfortunately for some people, the journey is a game of Candy Land where Queen Frostine rules with a sweet iron fist.
In the game of Candy Land, healthy food like fruits and nuts are dangerous.
When it comes to feeling fabulous and looking great, the deck is stacked against you in this consumer based culture where we are encouraged to take it easy and reach for what’s comfortable because it’s a lot harder for corporations to make money from people being healthy than it is from people being sick.
Thankfully, you have us and Internet to weed through a lot of the strange ideas you’ll find along this perilous rainbow colored path.
Today we’re taking a look at odd fitness trends we’ve encountered through the years and try to shed some light into what works and what is a big puke bucket of crazy.

Paul Lynde and The Greatest Sissies of All Time Nov 12, 2020

In most films effeminate men are portrayed as villains- sissies who are morally weak because of their homosexuality.
But this isn’t always the case when its comes to comedy: sissies are heroes because they are the mistfits who have the courage to tell it like it is.
Today the faaaabulous Brian Sweeney joins me to take a look at some of the greatest sissies in culture and entertainment. Listen as we sissy that walk down memory lane as we look at Frank Nelson, the yeeeeeess man from the Lucy Show to Scott Thompson’s Buddy Cole from The Kids in the Hall.
