Feast of Fun: Gay Talk Show

Interviews with amazing people, comedians and LGBTQ+ legends, with pop culture and politics wrapped up in a delicious candy coating of camp.

Hosted by Puerto Rican drag queen Fausto Fernós and his husband, Norwegian reality TV star Marc Felion, Feast of Fun began as one of the original 50 podcasts featured on iTunes in 2006, and celebrated by Apple: Feast of Fun “helped bring podcasting from an underground movement to a mainstream phenomenon.” Five time winner of the People’s Choice Podcast Award for Best LGBT podcast.

We’ve done thousands of shows with wonderfully wild people, LGBTQ legends and their friends, and tackle the tough questions like: is Sasquatch a drag queen? How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll pop?

Subscribe and join us as we chat with gay musicians, counterculture comedians, trans pirates, lesbian warriors and pagan witches and celebrate the ridiculous and transform pain into pleasure.

FOF #2984 - Tammy Faye: the Eyes of Matt Brown Sep 15, 2021

Show notes

The new biopic “The Eyes of Tammy Faye” is coming out this week. Based on the documentary of the same name, the new film revisits the rise and fall of televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker and her reinvention as a gay icon.
At the time the scandals that surrounded Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker led to the collapse of their conservative million dollar tv media empire, so why were gay folks so eager to embrace her right off the bat?
Today comedian Matt Brown joins us to look at the legacy of televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker and her redemption in the eyes of LGBTQ people after her fall from grace with religious conservatives.

FOF #2983 - Amanda Cohen on To Tell the Truth Sep 13, 2021

Show notes

One of the most brilliant comedians we’ve had the pleasure of working with in the past 16 years of doing Feast of Fun is Amanda Cohen. We met Amanda through a Craigslist Ad we placed for our live musical variety shows looking for a woman with a big personality and bosom to match.
Often mistaken for someone else at her comedy shows, Amanda was known to our audience as Amanda Steinstein, a character developed for the live shows which combined a pinch of Fran Drescher, a smidgen of Grace Slick and a whole lotta Dr. Who, or in her case, Dr. What!?
So when we heard she got cast on To Tell the Truth in a double whammy as a Bug Baker and Aquanaut, we knew it was going to be good.
Today comedian Amanda Cohen, best known to long time listeners as Amanda Steinstein, joins us to look back at all the people she’s been mistaken for: someone’s mom, a truck driving lesbian, a bug baker and an aquanaut.

FOF #2982 - Mama Mia ABBA, Here We Go Again Sep 13, 2021

Show notes

After 40 years, ABBA, the Swedish pop group that dominated the charts in the 70s is back with a new album “Voyage” that’s already broken pre-sale records in the UK. The group also announced a tour featuring digital avatars of the band members that kicks off next year.
The first two preview tracks from the album feel like a strange clone of ABBA, and the avatars of the disco supergroup are completely unsettling. And after all these years why can’t they pronounce the word “you?”
Today comedian Rachel Hall helps us to reflect on ABBA’s strange 40 year comeback and how that Super Trouper beam is gonna find you feeling like a number one.

FOF #2981 - Martha Chaves' Lesbian Disneyland Sep 07, 2021

Show notes

Comedian Martha Chaves once thought she’d become a nun so she could be around women and not have to deal with a family that expected her to like men.
But when she became a refugee in Canada, after her native Nicaragua had a revolution, she was able to live her full lesbian fantasy in the nightclubs of Montreal.
Ooh la la labia!
Today comedian Martha Chaves joins us to take a look at all the things Latinx people share in common, wild queer parties in Nicaragua and how to fool your parents into thinking your straight.

FOF #2978 - Miss Understood on Drag, Daytime TV and Divas Aug 18, 2021

Show notes

As we celebrate 16 years and 3,000 episodes of Feast of Fun, we’ve asked one of our all time favorite drag queen guests, Miss Understood, to join us to look back at the early years of drag on TV and film.
In the 90s, Miss Understood was a regular on the daytime TV talk show circuit. When Sally Jesse Rafael or Geraldo Rivera wanted to showcase eccentric kooks from the New York City nightlife scene, Miss Understood was there in her psychedelic pink and green looks to wow the audience.
Miss Understood was cast as one of the contestants in the pageant scene in the first major Hollywood film to focus on drag queens “To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything, Love Julie Newmar.”
This bright colored wigged gal has been in a lot: Miss Understood was featured in the documentary Wigstock and the premier episode of Sex and the City. She was also the first drag queen we had on this podcast to talk about drag queen make up long before all the makeup tutorials made it onto the internet.

FOF #2977 – Jake Noll on LGBTQ Muppets & Superheroes Aug 12, 2021

Show notes

With more and more young people identify as non binary and LGBTQ+, Hollywood is trying to tap into that youth market by going queer all of a sudden.
The Muppets long relied on switching wigs and elements of drag, but now they are diving into the deep end of the pool with Gonzo comes out as non binary while wearing a dress, and Miss Piggy being a judge on Drag Race. Even Kermit is cross dressing as Miss Piggy looking fierce as a pig in a wig!
Surprisingly, non-binary comedian Jake Noll, who thought they knew it all, is getting schooled by teenagers on social media on how gender identity is changing, and that not all non binary folks like they/them pronouns.
Today the brilliant and hilarious Jake Noll joins us to look at the neverending story of gender and sexual identity as it comes to the Muppets, comic book characters, Tik Tok and celebrities.

FOF #2976 - Marga Gomez and Queen Latifah Love Science Aug 09, 2021

Show notes

Comedian Robin Williams was so impressed with Marga Gomez that he called her the lesbian Lenny Bruce. It wasn’t long after that Hollywood cast her alongside Queen Latifah as a pair of scientists who dive deep - into the ocean to discover a buried alien spaceship in the film Sphere.
The movie was released a year after comedian Ellen DeGeneres came out as gay and at the time it seemed Hollywood was ready to cast strong women in comfortable shoes into action film roles.
Today comedian, performance artist, lesbian icon and sci fi action movie star Marga Gomez joins us to look at her Sphere co-star Queen Latifah finally coming out 23 years after.

Listen as we take a look at how on stage performance and online media are morphing together into an unrecognizable blob, and how Marga Gomez is turning to her online streaming events to reconnect with the world and fight the Covid blues.
