Elysian Fields (guest: Dave Kluge) Jan 24, 2023
    Show notes

Host Pat Fitzmaurice (@Fitz_FF) welcomes in Dave Kluge (@DaveKluge) of Footballguys. A diehard Bears fan, Dave opines on what the near-term future holds for Justin Fields and what the Bears must do to maximize the exciting talents of their young quarterback. Dave and Pat also discuss Khalil Herbert’s potential, the Chase Claypool trade, and the 2023 value of Darnell Mooney. There’s some free-agency chatter, as Dave and Pat marvel at the number of good running backs about to hit the open market. The crop of free-agent receivers isn’t nearly as exciting, but Dave makes a pitch for free-agent-to-be Jakobi Meyers.

Dave talks about the Footballguys team trip to Las Vegas and an unusual variation of blackjack at the Golden Nugget. Dave’s podcast, the Launch Pad, was just nominated for a Fantasy Sports Writers Association award, and Dave discusses the show’s concept and origins. Dave at Pat talk about some of the players they’re conflicted about for 2023, including Evan Engram, Dameon Pierce, and Diontae Johnson. Dave weighs in on who should go 1.01 in 2023 fantasy drafts. Dave and Pat examine the 2023 outlooks for Javonte Williams and Jameson Williams. Dave names one player he’ll be heavily invested in and one player he’ll be avoiding in this year’s drafts.

Sweet and salty (guest: Andrew Erickson) Jan 17, 2023
    Show notes

Fitz on Fantasy returns after a two-week hiatus. Host Pat Fitzmaurice (@Fitz_FF) opens the show by discussing Damar Hamlin’s medical emergency and how the cancellation of Bengals-Bills affected fantasy leagues. Then, Fitz welcomes in his colleague Andrew Erickson (@AndrewErickson) of FantasyPros. Fitz and Erickson discuss a couple of playoff teams: the Jaguars and the 49ers. Is Travis Etienne a worthy target for fantasy drafters in 2023, and how will Calvin Ridley fit into the Jacksonville offense? Who’ll quarterback the 49ers in 2023 -- Trey Lance or Brock Purdy -- and should we worry about the 49ers having so much skill-position talent and only one football to go around?

A Courtland Sutton enthusiast in August, Erickson reflects on where things went wrong for Sutton in 2022 and assesses the value of Sutton’s teammate Jerry Jeudy. Erickson and Fitz talk about pineapple on pizza, Food Network programming, Erickson’s non-football sports loyalties, and his wedding plans. There’s some Patriots chatter, with Erickson and Fitz taking a closer look at Mac Jones, Rhamondre Stevenson, and Tyquan Thornton. Erickson and Fitz also look at some of the compelling storylines for the incoming rookie class and discuss Christian Watson, Dalvin Cook, Tyler Allgeier, and more.

Calling all Neanderthals (guest: Matthew Freedman) Dec 26, 2022
    Show notes

In the final episode of 2022, host Pat Fitzmaurice (@Fitz_FF) is joined by FantasyPros and BettingPros content director Matthew Freedman (@MattFTheOracle) for a forward-looking discussion about the 2023 fantasy season. Freedman weighs in on who deserves to go 1.01 in 2023 fantasy drafts and who’s more likely to be the consensus 1.01. He and Pat also discuss the dilemma people are going to have at the top of their dynasty rookie drafts in Superflex leagues. Will 2023 be a good year to chase elite QBs in redraft leagues? Maybe, but Freedman explains why he probably won’t.

After some off-topic conversation about Freedman’s in-season alcohol and dessert ban and ‘90s music (including an act Freedman refers to as “the Dalvin Cook of ’90s bands), Pat and Freedman discuss the 2023 market outlook for a dozen players, including Trevor Lawrence, Rhamondre Stevenson, J.K. Dobbins, Christian Watson, DeVonta Smith, D.J. Moore, and David Njoku.

Snowball effect (guest: Tera Victoria) Dec 20, 2022
    Show notes

Happy holidays! Dr. Deepak Chona (@SportMDAnalysis) kicks off this very merry episode with his weekly injury report, and then host Pat Fitzmaurice (@Fitz_FF) is joined by Tera Victoria (@ItsTeraTime) of FantasyPros, Football Diehards, Fantasy Alarm and other purveyors of fantasy content. With a chilly forecast on the horizon for the fantasy playoffs, Tera and Pat talk about the blizzard that never came in Buffalo, the winter weather system that could impact several Week 16 games, and their overall philosophies on weather effects in fantasy football. They also discuss the tendency to overmanage in the fantasy playoffs. Tera explains how she first got into fantasy football, her origins as a content creator, and how a Super Bowl squares pool turned her into a Packers fan for life.

A Clemson grad, Tera talks about Trevor Lawrence and Travis Etienne -- and since she and Pat were on the subject of the Jaguars, there’s some Zay Jones and Evan Engram chatter, too. They also take a closer look at Christian Watson and his 2023 value. Tera weighs in on who should be the 1.01 in 2023 drafts and how the top-tier QBs should be ordered next year. She also names a player she has resolved not to draft in 2023, and lists some of her biggest hits and misses from 2022.

Dobbins’ return, Jared Goff’s long-term outlook and D’Andre Swift’s unpredictability. Stick to the Skrip (guest: Nick Skrip) Dec 06, 2022
    Show notes

It’s the final week of the regular season in most fantasy leagues, and wow, do we have a lot to unpack. After Dr. Deepak Chona (@SportMDAnalysis) starts the show by enumerating the many injuries of Week 13, host Pat Fitzmaurice (@Fitz_FF) welcomes in Nick Skrip (@P2WFantasy) of P2W Fantasy, FantasyPoints.com and Underdog Fantasy. Nick and Pat assess the fallout from the injuries to Jimmy Garoppolo, Lamar Jackson, Kenneth Walker, and Courtland Sutton, and how players such as Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, Mark Andrews, and Jerry Jeudy will be affected. The return of Deshaun Watson and the rejuvenated fantasy value of James Cook also come up for discussion, and Nick and Pat talk about the 2023 fantasy value of Christian Watson and Garrett Wilson.

Nick talks about using a wide variety of media to deliver fantasy content and why he often emphasizes video content. He also discusses his early-bird gym habits and his soccer background, and he and Pat kick around a few World Cup topics. Nick, a Bears fan, and Pat, a Packers fan, also discuss the Bears-Packers rivalry, and Nick offers his take on Bears GM Ryan Pace, the Chase Claypool trade, Luke Getsy’s offense, Justin Fields and Cole Kmet. Nick and Pat size up the Jets’ RB situation, speculate on Geno Smith’s future as an NFL starter, and list candidates to be the No. 1 pick in 2023 fantasy drafts. Nick also runs through a few of his biggest hits and misses of the 2023 season.

No Russ, no fuss (guest: Brian Drake) Nov 28, 2022
    Show notes

Dr. Deepak Chona (@SportMDAnalysis) kicks off this week’s show with an injury update, and then host Pat Fitzmaurice (@Fitz_FF) is joined by Brian Drake (@DrakeFantasy) managing editor of Fighting Chance Fantasy and host of the Fantasy Football Hustle podcast. Brian and Pat talk about the catastrophic Russell Wilson deal for the Broncos and try to assess the value of Denver’s pass catchers. They also examine the D.J. Moore/Sam Darnold reunion and try to figure out if Moore will be a trustworthy fantasy asset the rest of the way. If you have some FAAB money to burn and a screaming need at RB, who should you go after this week after injuries to Travis Etienne and Michael Carter -- Darrell Henderson, JaMycal Hasty, Zonovan Knight, or Ty Johnson? Brian and Pat weigh in, and they also take an early look at the candidates for pick 1.01 in 2023 fantasy drafts since there doesn’t appear to be a consensus No. 1 at the moment.

Brian talks about his musical tastes and his in-laws’ fervor for the Beatles. Brian and Pat also talk about holiday drinks and Syracuse basketball, and Brian offers an opinion on Syracuse RB prospect Sean Tucker. Brian and Pat try to figure out what the Buccaneers’ backfield will look like when Leonard Fournette returns from his hip injury. They also discuss D’Andre Swift, Dameon Pierce, and Gabriel Davis. Brian sizes up the prospects for his high-powered Scott Fish Bowl team and names some of his biggest hits and misses of 2022.

Coop de grâce (guest: Andrew Cooper) Nov 22, 2022
    Show notes

The holiday season begins this week, which means the fantasy football playoffs are drawing near. Host Pat Fitzmaurice (@Fitz_FF) welcomes Andrew Cooper (@CoopAFiasco) to cover a wide range of fantasy topics. Pat and Coop begin by revisiting a conversation they had this summer about how Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy’s playcalling at Mississippi State in 2018 might have foreshadowed Justin Fields’ heavy usage as a runner this year, and they discuss the risk/reward proposition of having a QB who runs so aggressively. Coop, a tight-end connoisseur, leads an expedition into the position, outlining the traits and situations managers should be looking for when they’re TE-shopping, and taking a closer look at the state of the position in 2022.

Coop talks about his recent three-week honeymoon in Europe, recalling the best thing he ate, the strangest thing he saw, and an interesting stop at a Big Lebowski-themed bar in Iceland. Coop and Pat also discuss Thanksgiving side dishes and rank their favorites. They also examine Lamar Jackson’s passing slump, shifting backfields for the Rams and Buccaneers, the Antonio Gibson conundrum, the reinvigorated value of Josh Jacobs, the plummeting value of Diontae Johnson, Coop’s biggest 2022 hits and misses, and more.

Age is just a number (guest: Bob Harris) Nov 15, 2022
    Show notes

This week’s show begins with Dr. Deepak Chona (@SportMDAnalysis) providing the weekly injury update. Then, host Pat Fitzmaurice (@Fitz_FF) welcomes in Bob Harris (@footballdiehard) of Football Diehards. On the occasion of Bob’s birthday, Bob and Pat discuss their general philosophies on aging players and their specific takes on some older QBs who have underachieved this season relative to career norms (Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Matthew Stafford, Russell Wilson). Bob and Pat also drill down on some RB dynamics, examining the changing dynamics of the Tampa Bay and Detroit backfields and taking a closer look at Jeff Wilson, D’Onta Foreman, and Cordarrelle Patterson.

Bob talks about his recent move from Albuquerque to Dallas and his fondness for live rock and metal shows. Bob and Pat also discuss NFL beat writers, and Bob names a few of his longtime favorites. The Chiefs go under the microscope later in the show, as Bob and Pat assess the value of Isiah Pacheco and Kadarius Toney. There’s also some QB discussion, and Bob lists some of his biggest 2022 hits and misses.

    Show notes

Dr. Deepak Chona (@SportMDAnalysis) opens the show with this week’s injury update, and then host Pat Fitzmaurice (@Fitz_FF) welcomes in his co-host on the FantasyPros Dynasty Podcast, Scott Bogman (@BogmanSports), who also co-hosts the InThisLeague fantasy podcast. Scott and Pat talk about the emergence of Justin Fields and where he belongs in the QB hierarchy this year and for 2023 fantasy drafts. They also backtrack and cover some of last week’s trade deadline deals, discussing Chase Claypool, T.J. Hockenson, Nyheim Hines, and some of the players whose value might have been affected by the comings and goings.

Scott details his introduction to fantasy sports at a magazine rack in a Kmart. He also talks about his night-owl habits and the origins of his Steelers fandom. Scott offers his take on Kenny Pickett’s first few starts and whether there’s a longer-term NFL future for Sam Ehlinger. Scott is a Texas Longhorns fan, and he and Pat discuss Texas RB Bijan Robinson, whether he’s a better prospect than Saquon Barkley, where they’d like to see him play, and where he’ll go in 2023 fantasy drafts. There’s also some chatter about Garrett Wilson, Kenneth Walker, Dameon Pierce, Christian Watson, and some other members of the 2022 rookie class.
