    Failing Motherhood

If you’re riddled with mom guilt, your temper scares you, you’re terrified you’re screwing up your kids and are afraid to admit any of those things out loud….this podcast is for you. Hosted by Danielle Bettmann, parenting coach for families with 1-10-year-old strong-willed kids, Failing Motherhood is where shame-free vulnerability meets breakthroughs.
Every other week is a storytelling interview about one mom’s raw and honest experience of growth that leads to new perspectives and practical strategies and every other week solo episodes focus on actionable insight into parenting your deeply feeling, highly sensitive, *spicy* child.
Here, we normalize the struggle, share openly about our insecurities, and rally around small wins and truths. We hope to convince you you’re not alone and YOU are the parent your kids need. We hope you see yourself, hear your story, and find hope and healing.
Welcome to Failing Motherhood. You belong here!

    Show notes

Your plans. Your expectations. Your identity.

Along with sharing his own metamorphosis into parenting, Jack reflects on the parenting instincts he was given, why he hates parenting advice, and how therapy has made him a better dad. He shares the lessons he's learned so far, as well as advice for fellow dads, like: admit you have feelings, do the dishes, and work on respecting yourself.
This episode should be required listening for expectant or new dads to better understand what's to come. It is a must-listen for all currently parenting dads to know they're not alone and what to do about it, and for moms, it's a beautiful way to better understand our partner. 5. Surviving Miscarriage with Kierra Butcher Jun 09, 2020
    Show notes

If you've ever lost a pregnancy, you are NOT alone.
Kierra Butcher is a mama to 3 daughters and 5 angel babies. The loneliness of her seasons of loss were crippling when she had no one to talk to and no where to turn.
The added pressure, guilt, grief, and fears following her into motherhood created daily breakdowns she dubbed "bad mom o'clock". After vicious bouts of postpartum anxiety, Kierra shares what finally helped.
Through processing her own grief, she's opened up an art shop on Instagram illustrating "whole" family portraits including every single angel.

    4. Overcoming Adversity & Talking About Race with Rachel Tran Jun 04, 2020
    Show notes

Our nation is on fire. People are hurting. Let's talk about it.
Rachel Tran is a biracial mama of 4, homeschooling pro, patron saint of baby-wearing, and fierce advocate for her kids. She breezes through the stories of how 3 of her kids have had life-threatening medical diagnoses and how each of those whirlwinds have made her into the mama she is today.
While she could likely teach us a lot of things, today she's sharing what she feels is her biggest FAIL to date - not having had a conversation with her kids about race.
She's so humble & speaks from her heart as she shares the question her child asked this weekend that broke her heart, "But what color is MY skin, mom?" We chat about where to start when you're overwhelmed, that it's okay to not have all the answers, and how to move forward once the protests end.

    3. The Imposter Syndrome Remedy with Dr. Emee Vida Estacio May 26, 2020
    Show notes

"I'm not cut out for this." "I don't know what I'm doing." "I'm a bad mom."
These thoughts can fuel an overwhelming feeling of Imposter syndrome - in which one doubts one's accomplishments and has a persistent internalized fear of being exposed as a "fraud". Sound familiar?
Dr. Emee Vida Estacio is a chartered psychologist & best-selling author, sharing in this episode practical strategies to remedy this feeling; but first, she shares her own tumultuous transition to motherhood and how she ended up walking away from a distinguished career in academics.
Get ready to take notes as you listen!
She explains the 2 symptoms of imposter syndrome:
#1 - The inability to internalize success
    #2 - Maladaptive perfectionist tendencies
She teaches us the TLC Technique for exploring the voice of our inner critic, as well as the Flashlight Technique she uses with her clients.
She believes it's harmful to try to banish, suppress or crush your inner critic and coaches a new perspective. Our conversation can also help you better come alongside and encourage a friend that feels like they're failing.

    2. The Beauty of Rock Bottom with Laurenne May 26, 2020
    Show notes

My beautiful friend, Laurenne, joins us today to share about her lowest low in motherhood. Just when she thought she couldn't go on, a trip to Trader Joes and a new tea set breathes life and the thought starts to actually sink in that she might just be the right mom for her daughters.
I'm so grateful for Laurenne's vulnerability and wisdom, it is exactly the heart of what this podcast hopes to capture. You are not doing it wrong if it's hard, you are not alone, and you're not the only one thinking you're the only one!
Laurenne mentions her gratitude for finding a friend group in which she could be honest and real, and encourages you to find the same. If you haven't yet, find a MOMS Club, MOPS group, or something similar in your area. If none of those are offered, it looks like you're going first and starting something! You can do hard things, friend. A FB group, a monthly book club... it's worth it. Early motherhood just cannot and should not be weathered alone.
If you or a loved one ever feels like Laurenne did, help is standing by!
