The train goes back to 1849, and the route goes through 13 states and 30 separate stops. It’s a moving history lesson of the American South—past Civil War battlefields, new age Southern cities, and Louisiana bayou country. The trip also happens as Amtrak goes through a major change of leadership. Richard Anderson, Former CEO of Delta Air Lines, is about to take over America’s railroad at a time when it needs the most help.
