On this John Billings interview, moving to LA and things not working out, and how he survived a life-threatening armed robbery, coming to Nashville and things falling into place, some great stories about working with Donna Summer, Micky Dolenz, Rick Springfield, Steve Cropper, Wynonna Judd… some dark times he had to deal with when he was alone and on the road, carpooling with Allan Holdsworth, photography, hiking, Australia, love of adventure and more. Unhappy with how things worked out in LA, 8 years later he moved to Nashville. One month later, he found himself on tour in Brazil with Donna Summer, a gig which he held for 17 years. Since then, he's played or toured with The Monkees, Wynonna Judd, Rick Springfield, The Wooten Brothers, Lee Ann Womack, Patti LaBelle, Lita Ford, Paul Anka, Gary Lewis & The Playboys, Steve Cropper, John Corabi, Wolf Hoffmann, Nancy Wilson, Vinnie Moore, Michael Angelo, Shemekia Copeland, The Atomic Punks, Eddy Raven & others. He was touring with Micky Dolenz from the Monkees before Covid. He also produces and engineers music videos and owns a bar called Wine Down Nashville.

Laurent Medelgi: Medeljazz Quartet, "Look on the inside and find your own joy..." Oct 20, 2020
    Show notes

Laurent is a jazz player who moved from his native Paris to New York City, with his guitar, his amp, and his girlfriend (who left shortly after this). Laurent struggled with acclimating to the isolation of the Big Apple, where social interaction was dramatically different from what he was used to. But he hung in there and wound up releasing two live jazz albums, recorded at two top jazz clubs in Manhattan, earned the lead guitar chair in the Broadway play RENT and several other Broadway shows, and has produced artists and been a music director, world-wide

Laurent shares how he "kind of fell in love that summer with the guitar"... and how, once he embraced a new philosophy of life, he became much less emotionally burdened and began living a much fuller and more enjoyable life. Great call with a fantastic player and a really sincere guy who was kind enough to let us into his life and share his story...

Peter White: "If Al Stewart didn't hand me that guitar, my whole life would be different" Oct 19, 2020
    Show notes

On this Peter White Interview: Great story of how Peter, who grew up without a phone at home, wound up touring the world many times over - as a sideman with Al Stewart, and as a solo artist. How his brother burned down their bedroom and wound up starting Peter's love for acoustic guitar… Important lessons learned from working with Alan Parsons & Earl Klugh, meeting Jimmy Page & Paul McCartney, working at Abbey Road Studios, bringing joy to others, feeling more comfortable with yourself, why "Don't think, just play" should be every musician's mantra. AWESOME convo with a kind and lovely artist

Peter White played guitar and keyboards with Al Stewart, and co wrote a couple of Al's hits over a 20 year period, opening for Linda Ronstadt, Billy Joel and Queen. He then launched a successful solo career, releasing over a dozen LPs and playing guitar as a side man on dozens of other records. He's toured the world many times over and was named Best Guitarist at the National Smooth Jazz Awards, 4 years in a row.

One of the most disciplined players I've ever met, Jim practices daily - usually arising at 4.30am to do so. Jim is a unique and creative player who crushes it on his 1959 Telecaster. He actually saw Roy Buchanan in concert, close to 20 times, and shares what he learned from Roy. There's a reason why Jim has TWO signature guitars with two different companies...

Joe Blanton: "So I'm in the hot tub with Flava Flav, and yes he had the clock…" Oct 12, 2020
    Show notes

On this Joe Blanton Interview, never suspecting his prime years in the music business would start in his 40's… why getting a record deal isn't always what you think it is, not sweating the small stuff so much, letting go, running away to Florida (and it turning out to be a great trip), and why Joe plays guitar instead of only singing

Originally an art student, Joe's band The Royal Court of China signed with A&M. He then wound up writing songs with Warner Hodges, Jason Ringenberg & Dan Baird, after meeting them all in Nashville. Today, Joe owns Underground Treehouse records and is a successful producer, engineer & songwriter. He also plays in The Bluefields (Dan Baird, Warner E. Hodges) & The Hangfires (Jen Gunderman, Dan, Greg Morrow), worked on The Chefs new album with Dan Baird & Stan Lynch and just released his own solo LP, "Good, Bad, Right or Wrong," which is great
