The Best Deck MTGGodlfish Doesn’t Want You To See | EP.157 Oct 27, 2023

Show notes

While Julian seems to be stuck in a slump, and Kai Top8s another tournament, Callum tests the physical boundaries of the format: born a meme, (almost) living the dream after a 4-1’ing a Legacy league, 14-Beanstalk Cascade is his new weapon of choice that turned out to be much stronger than expected. Grab the decklist below and find out whether Ardent Plea is right for you.

We also find out why all of us, and we mean ALL OF US, are resolving mulligans incorrectly, and why Julian thinks the rules might actually want to be changed because of it. Oh, and did you know that MTG Goldifsh actively hides one of the very top-performing Legacy decks from ever appearing on their website? This and much more on today’s show!

ASK YOURSELF: Is Your Body Ready For Soul Cauldron? | EP.156 Oct 10, 2023

Show notes

Kai just right onto the cast after a devastating run in his last league, and the rest of the hosts to what they were trained to in the face of such inadequacy. With that out of the way, we look at specifically why RUG Delver has been one of the most popular homes of Up the Beanstalk lately, and why we just can’t get enough of that Canadian Threshold vibe in Legacy. Callum then unleashes the beast that is various, nefarious flavors of Agatha’s Soul Cauldron and why your body needs to be ready for Phyrexian Devourer’s scheduled, once-every-5-years hot week in the format!

Why Kai Daze’d His Doomsday In Italy | EP.154 Sep 12, 2023

Show notes

4Seasons Bologna is the cathedral of eternal Magic, where we practice our religion called Legacy. Returning from our third pilgrimage, the crew reflects on what was a very different experience this time around: all three of us were doing commentary during the European Legacy Masters, skipping Saturday’s big side event for it…mostly, as Callum the madman was actually juggling both roles. Tune in for many stories of railbirded Win-and-In matches, and find out how UB Scam massively underperformed, and which flavors of 4c Control were dominating the top tables, along with some sweet Artifact spice!

MIND’S DESIRE is unbanned & WINNING! | EP.152 Aug 08, 2023

Show notes

QUICK GET IN THE CAR, MIND’S DESIRE HAS BEEN UNBANNED IN LEGACY!

As the news hit on our way back home from work, Kai, Callum & I immediately jumped into a call to record our thoughts about one of the most exciting unban in years! Not only is Mind’s Desire one of the most epic cards in the history of the game – it also sets a new precedent for WotC being willing to touch cards that were once considered un-unbanable. We touch on different ways to build the deck, look back at the Legacy UNCHAINED Series from 2019 (during which Mind’s desire got some action!), and cast our votes where we see the card in 6 months.

In the second half of the show, we highlight Mississippi River winning the most recent Saturday Legacy Challenge in the hands of Sean Goddard, and why that deck is causing so much frustration (or pure joy) among players right now. Oh, and SHRAPNEL BLAST is back too. We’re living through some wild times right now, and I’m loving it!

Bonus Content: right as the show ended, we found Martin ‘Nevilshute’ Nielsen’s first draft of a Mind’s Desire deck that he went 4-1 with in a league. Check it out at twitter.com/MartinFSNielsen/status/1688650552358400001

WE WENT TO SPAIN! – feat. runkor | EP.151 Jul 24, 2023

Show notes

With Callum currently rocking out on a burning boat in Eastern Europe, Kai & Julian invite Iñigo ‘runkor’ Villamor onto the show, to look back at their adventures at IMPACT Returns in Spain earlier this month. There, in the very north-western reaches of the country in Galicia, the IMPACT crew had (thus far) rather secretly built the second-biggest recurring Legacy of Europe. We look back at their history which reaches back over a decade to a bunch of guys inside a bar, all the way to the big Legacy+Modern events that are hosting now.

Starting this year, Impact is now reaching out beyond the Spanish borders, attracting players from the rest of the continent. As coverage was being switched to English, they brought in Kai & Julian as commentators for both the Spanish Legacy Champs on Friday and the Main Event on Saturday.

We look back at a weekend fueled with just the best of Spanish Legacy, people, cuisine, and beaches! If you’re gonna miss an episode, don’t let it be this one!

Take A Bow, Legacy | EP.150 Jul 01, 2023

Show notes

Callum, Kai & Julian gather for a first assessment of the damage Orcish Bowmasters & Friends have done, and are happy they actually brought up a card last episode that Callum completely underestimated. With tons of high-stake events in the books, we take a look at which new cards have actually made an impact, and discuss our feelings about Bowmasters after getting a couple of games in with them.

In the second part of the show, we take a look at the results of NRG Chicagoland, SCG Baltimore, and a couple other events. Julian is especially excited about the Creative Technique (“Mississippi River”) Cascade deck they managed to camera in round 2 of NRG Chicagoland…that just barely missed the Top8 in the end.

Legacy is Back in Black & Callum’s New Painter | EP.149 Jun 17, 2023

Show notes

Have you ever confused a random warhorse for the most glorious king of Rohan? Happens to the best of us. As yet another episode’s script is short-notice altered by Callum crushing a tournament (with an altered version of Painter), the crew comes together to reivew Kai’s special appearance at the BOTTROP series in, well, BOTTROP and why people paid money to wrestle with him. Also find out why Orcish Bowmasters is about to give Legacy the Wrenn and Six treatment, and completely wrap for the time to come…we believe.

To round things out we highlight the results of yet another 300+ player 4Seasons in Bologna, as well as the 100+ players German Legacy Championship – the first one to take place in 12 years!
