    Modern Horizons & Fake Esports Viewership Stats | EP.57 May 27, 2019
    Show notes

    Matt has returned from his classified mission and finally joins the rest of the team again for today’s episode. After being the 37th podcast to briefly discuss the recent MPL changes, we explore somewhat of a bombshell that was dropped by Kotaku on Thursday. In a monster of an article that touches on tinkering with viewership numbers and the looming threat of esports being a bubble ready to burst right now, they also present some insider knowledge of Wizards of the Coast inflating Mythic Invitational Twitch stats in order to meet promises made to sponsors.
    We also shed some light on the allegations of match fixing in Pauper leagues that Kendra Smith recently raised on Twitter, as well as the planned structural and payout adjustements of MTGO leagues.
    AAAAAAAAAAAND of course there’s a ton of Modern Horizon spoilers, with some really sweet cards in them, which might even spawn new archetypes. Tune in if you wanna find out why we are all so excited for the second-worst 2 mana Planeswalker ever printed!

    The best deck in Legacy – feat. Min & Max | EP.56 May 05, 2019
    Show notes

    In today’s episode, Julian welcomes Legacy masterminds Minhajul Hoq & Max Gilmore onto the show to not only introduce minmaxblog.com, but also jump into one of the most analytical episodes we’ve ever produced. Championing their in-depth approach to deckbuilding and metagame analysis, we introduce what Max believes to be the most broken Legacy deck since Treasure Cruise Delver, White Bomberman. (Is this blog on a list now?). Find out how has finally pushed this deck over the top, and also continues to supercharge other decks like Big Eldrazi, Stax…and even Miracles!
    All the way throughout today’s episode but especially towards the end, we also discuss the proper mindset for growth as a player and why you should never be afraid of abandoning heuristics and look “stupid” to other players. We look at the common, often subconscious thought patterns that will frustrate plateauing players and what it takes to overcome them in order to improve and reach new levels in your game….am I sounding like the back cover of a book yet?
    Bonus: ever wondered what special event in Max’ life has turned him into a disciple of ?

    Interviewing GP Niagara Champion Daniel Goetschel | EP.55 Apr 24, 2019
    Show notes

    In today’s episode, Bob and I invited our most recent Legacy GP winner, 18-year old Daniel Goetschel (Gul_Dukat) onto the podcast. We initially explore Daniel’s background as a competitive player struggling with card prices, who eventually just juggernauted his way into winning all the cards he needed. Afterwards we pick his brain about his thoughts on Legacy’s reborn phoenix UW Stoneblade, a deck that had faded into obscurity for a long time before finally coming back in full force for this GP. Daniel also provides a first hand experience of his historic undefeated run at the Grand Prix during which he literally won all the matches he actually played!
    Daniel is sometimes nicknamed the “Galaxy Brain” of Legacy, so be prepared for some rapid fire thoughts on this episode. Fasten your seat belt and dive right into it!

    4c Stryfo Pile with Chase Hansen | EP.53 Mar 31, 2019
    Show notes

    For today’s episode, we invited one of the biggest names in MTGO Legacy to the cast: Chase “Stryfo” Hansen, who recently took down the first of four “Legacy Playoffs” we are getting on Magic Online this year. For those who don’t know what this means, Chase emerged victorious in a tournament of only the most successful and dedicated online Legacy grinders last week.
    Join us as we explore Chase’s history as a competitive player, all the way from reanimating to Top8’ing a Legacy Grand Prix in 2015. We also unpack the theory behind Chase’s 4c Punishing Dack control deck, which he has achieved a record number of Legacy Challenge Top8s with over the years – and why it might be for you!
    We also touch on our thoughts on this weekend’s Mythic Invitational and the dark story behind Chase’s alternate “Clashed” nickname!

    SCG Results & Bob likes Slivers | EP.52 Mar 10, 2019
    Show notes

    With SCG Syracuse and another Legacy Challenge in the books, our crew looks at the most recent results with special focus on the “Tundra renaissance” that is UW Delver and UW Stoneblade: one a freak accident between Delver and Miracles, the other an old faithful of Legacy that hasn’t really seen proper tournament play in almost a decade. Also, somehow Bob really likes Slivers in today’s metagame why Julian considers it a worse version of the criminally underrated Merfolk he recently 5-0’ed with. Meanwhile Eric keeps terrorizing MTGO Legacy with his latest creation: The Epic Thief!
    Also tune in for the latest Bob Huang Banning Nomination™. Legacy is coming for you, !

    Legacy is Balanced & Great – Or is it? | EP.51 Feb 25, 2019
    Show notes

    For today’s episode, we’re blatantly “cashing in” on Bob’s most recent metagame overview article on Channel Fireball, that garnered a lot of attention. Following the ban of and , Bob outlines an allegedly balanced, diverse and potentially fun format with no deck reaching double-digit % respresentaiton. Enter Eric Landon, shatterer of dreams who disagrees with Bob’s point of view quite strongly. Listen to these two Legacy powerhouse players (and Julian) discuss their views of today’s Legacy metagame. Somehow the conversation steers towads Julian calling a “reasonable” magic card, while everyone laments the absence of Zoo.
    In the second part of today’s show, our three heros discuss the recently proposed mulligan rule change by Wizards of the Coast, which will be tested at the next Mythic Championship in London (April 26th-28th). Will this destroy Legacy as we know it or isn’t it nearly as much of a deal as the initial reaction would have you believe? And how many s should you buy now?

    The Bird’s the Word! | EP.50 Feb 09, 2019
    Show notes

    Happy New Year everyone…wait, it’s February already!? It’s been way too long since our last cast, so with Dr Matt Pavlic being fresh out of basic training, we decided to finally have the Canadian answer to Rambo back on the cast! Joining us tonight is the UK’s Callum Smith, who recently played a major role in the development Legacy’s hottest deck in town right now: Grixis Phoenix. Callum finished as runner-up in a recent 100+ player Legacy Challenge with it and provides an introduction on how to burn down and reignite phoenixes.

    Since Callum already covered the ins-and-out of the deck on the latest Eternal Durdles episode (which will release next week I believe), we then move on to focus more on the general Legacy metagame as we bring Mat up-2-speed for his first Legacy tournament in about half a year. Will Siege Rhino prevail? Is Recurring Nightmare gonna make the cut? And which blue enchantment did Dr Pavlic splash into his NicFit deck? Find out on tonight’s show!
    In the last part, Julian explains his reasoning for thinking there are actually too many Grand Prix – and how he feels about the future of non-professional competitive play!

    Bonus Content:
    Matt tells us about how to deal with the onsets of a midlife crisis and which car might be right for you. We also find out why the Canadian department of motor vehicles objected to the use of “NicFit” as a license plate.

    Quo vadis, Legacy? | EP.48 Jul 05, 2018
    Show notes

    On Monday Wizards of the Coast dropped the biggest bomb on Legacy in quite a while: with and leaving the format for good, the format has become as wide open as it’s ever been since at least early 2012! Together with Legacy masters and Bob Huang and today’s guests Jarvis Yu, we explore what the future of Legacy could look like and which decks we would currently love to explore more of in the near future.
    All three of us are really thrilled to jump head-first into the this fresh new format with tons of seemingly viable strategies and decks to put in the hours with. Other than that, we also nerd out a bit about past Legacy GP results as a source of inspiration for what the fturue of Legacy might hold.
    Decks discussed include:

    * Canadian Threshold (“RUG Delver”)
    * GW Maverick
    * Miracles
    * Storm
    * Lands
    * UB / BR Reanimator

    * Grixis Control
