    EQ Gangster

EQ Gangster is specifically for leaders, business owners, entrepreneurs & other influencers who are honest enough to admit that they just might be the ones holding themselves back & who are brave enough to change that. Research is showing that your Emotional Quotient (also known as Emotional Intelligence) is a bigger indicator of success than your IQ, your education & your experience.

In each episode, Noble offers practical, candid, and often humorous clarity for the modern leader who is brave enough to do the most uncomfortable work they’ll ever do: change THEMSELF! Interviews with other leaders help you see how EQ can transform the way you lead, do business and live your life.

Noble Gibbens, West Point grad and Army veteran, has been coaching people for over 20 years. After an uncharacteristic fight with his wife a few years ago, he started learning about & growing his own Emotional Intelligence (EQ). What he learned transformed him from the inside out – in every area. He’s sharing the breakthroughs here on the EQ Gangster podcast, in his membership, EQ Mafia, and with his corporate clients.

#368: It's Ok To Not Be Ok. Are You Ready? A Real (Brutal) Client Story. Aug 03, 2023
    Show notes

Whew, this one is difficult. I just wrapped up a coaching session w/a client that is going through a very, very challenging life phase.

He tried to play it off by saying "It's all good. I'm good. It's all gonna work out."

I told him he doesn't have to play the tough guy w/me. I know he's tough. He's very strong. He also needs to allow himself to experience the intensity of the emotions he's going through & will continue to go through while he's in this situation.

How prepared are you to go through another one of life's valleys?

    How ready do you feel?

How do you want to go through the next valley?

How well do you go alongside a friend or family member who is struggling or going through a valley? Are you mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually available & present for them?

How can you better prepare yourself for a valley either that you or a loved one will go through?

    #365: Who Annoys You & Why? Jul 24, 2023
    Show notes

When is the last time you've thought about who annoys you & why?

This is a real scenario & some real folks we know that tend to fit in this category for me.

It might be helpful to make a list of the people that annoy you.

Then, see if you can identify the reasons why those particular people annoy you.

What does that list of people say about you?

What do the things that annoy you about those particular people say about you?

I've asked God to reveal in me the areas that I might need to change as a result of who & why specific people annoy me.

#364: What Is The Opposite of Anxiety or Anxiousness? It's Not Relaxing! Jul 20, 2023
    Show notes

What is the opposite of stress or anxiety?

I immediately thought it was being relaxed.

What are the consequences of telling someone that is feeling stressed or anxiousness to "just relax"?

The opposite of stress & anxiousness is actually mindfulness & presence.

How good are you at remaining present & mindful when you are feeling stressed & anxious?

How can you get better at that?

What are 1 or 2 things you can do to improve in this area?

What mindfulness tools or techniques can you implement?

Try a daily, consistent breathing program.

    Show notes

Here is the actual episode w/Jason Van Camp - Author of Deliberate Discomfort & CEO of Mission Six Zero.

Here are some additional questions I asked Jason. I discuss some of the other questions in the previous episode.

When did you start developing your self-awareness?

How have you developed your humility?

What have you learned about leaders as the CEO of Mission Six Zero?

What has been one of your most enjoyable clients to work with & why or most difficult & why?

    He shared:

The importance of humility & vulnerability as a leader.

The concept of being "positively intrusive".

What works for 1 leader or organization might not work for another.

People do whatever they want to, so how can you help them do more or better of what they're already going to do.

    How do *you* stay humble?

Who have been some of the best & worst leaders you've ever worked with?

#362: My Insights From Recent Interview With Author, CEO & West Point Grad, Jason Van Camp. Jul 13, 2023
    Show notes

These are some of the lessons & insights I gleaned from my recent interview with West Point Special Forces Officer & Author of Deliberate Discomfort, Jason Van Camp.

Here were some of the questions I asked him:

What was the toughest thing emotionally about West Point for you?

How did you grow as a leader from West Point to your conventional Army time?

What did you learn about yourself as a leader during your conventional time?

When did you start becoming self-aware as a leader?

Surprisingly, he shared how West Point was one of the hardest, most challenging experiences in his life…even in the face of multiple combat tours.

He also shared a leadership concept called "cold-blooded" used as a french phrase (that I don't remember). He translated as being "cool as a cucumber" in the face of extreme adversity b/c that sets the tone / vibe of the culture of his team / unit.

When did you start becoming self-aware in your life?

What was one of the most challenging experiences you've had to overcome?
