Yo, can you believe we got Dikembe on the show?
In this episode of Emo Kids Anonymous, Steen, Scott and Randy from Dikembe discuss their journey as a band over the past 15 years, touching on their origins, the creation of their impactful Chicago Bowls EP, and the evolution of their sound. They explore the role of Discord in facilitating collaboration, the dynamics of their (still very punk rock) live performances, and the influence of social media on their visibility or lack thereof. The band also shares insights into their new EP King, and reflect on their experiences meeting Mayor-Elect Zohran Mamdani, highlighting the intersection of music and activism. We dive into the Gainesville music scene and the magic there as well as non stop ITYSL references. The band reflects on their favorite albums, the definition of emo, and their Mount Rushmore of emo bands. The episode concludes with a discussion about their social media presence and the challenges of modern band promotion.

Finally, our interview with Ben Quad is here! We were lucky enough to be joined by the whole band and despite some slight technical difficulties, we had a helluva time! In this engaging conversation, Ben Quad discuss their creative process, the significance of pop culture in their song titles, and the shift towards a more hopeful tone in emo music. They emphasize the importance of community and collaboration within the music scene, while also reflecting on the evolution of emo and its influence on their sound. The band shares their favorite tracks from their latest album Wisher, out now courtesy of Pure Noise Records. And don't worry everyone, we asked the important questions! How would Anakin have fared if he stuck to Pod Racing? What's the bands favorite film? What's their mount rushmore of butt rock? All that and more in our interview with Ben Quad.

Ladies and gentlemen, introducing the youngest band in the history of the show, Rec League! Cooper and Jacob have literally been playing their instruments for like, a year, and they've already recorded an EP and booked multiple shows and mini tours. For being so young, they carry themselves like they're much older in many ways and I came away from this interview incredibly impressed with them (wow that makes me sound so old). We talk about the bands beginnings as a solo project for Cooper, the benefits and drawbacks of being a two piece and so much more. We even get into their sandwich shop gig along with their post secondary plans (LOL HOW UNC OF ME). Anyways, These kids got potential I ain't gonna lie to ya! Fellas, I hope your parents don't get too upset with me for the amount of cursing throughout the episode I literally cannot help it.

Finally, Dear Cincinnati are on EKA! ICYMI, we interviewed Dear Cincinnati a few months ago but unfortunately, the episode was erased by nefarious forces. Could it have been Taylor Swift? The IDF? Could the fellas have just had tech issues? We will never know. Regardless, I am joined by David and Troy of Dear Cincinnati for a wide ranging conversation about the bands short history and long term plans, the lessons Troy picked up while touring with TRSH, sports. and Kerosene Heights, plus the most unhinged Mt. Rushmore in EKA history. This is one of my favorite bands in the scene today, we will ride or die with these mfs. Go check out both of their EPs they released this year!
