SpaceX Starship could launch Nov. 6 - Coast Guard notice shows Oct 30, 2023
    Show notes

In today's episode, we're unpacking the recent updates on SpaceX's Starship, which has been in the spotlight for both its technological advancements and regulatory delays. SpaceX has performed all necessary pre-flight operations, but the massive rocket still awaits crucial permits from federal agencies. While many look to the skies with eagerness, Starship is grounded, as the completion of the launch licensing process remains a pending affair.

SpaceX had its second test flight planned for Starship and even completed a full wet dress rehearsal. However, the company faces multiple regulatory hoops before the rocket can break Earth's gravitational pull. One of the last major hurdles involves a review by the Federal Wildlife Service (FWS) in conjunction with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This review is a detailed examination of Starship's potential environmental impacts, particularly focusing on the newly installed water deluge system at the Boca Chica launch site in Texas.

Teslas Historic $100M Supercharger Deal with BP Oct 28, 2023
    Show notes

Let's start by acknowledging that Tesla has long held the crown for fast-charging networks in North America. Until now, Tesla has exclusively built, deployed, and operated its own Superchargers. The company's connector design has become so advanced that even competitors are adopting it. Tesla's charging network is no small feat, and automakers want a piece of that pie.

Now, in a groundbreaking move, Tesla is selling its Supercharger hardware to BP. This marks a historic first: BP will deploy Tesla-built but BP-branded charging stations at its own sites. It’s an acknowledgment that Tesla’s technology is key to advancing the entire EV market, and it also offers Tesla a brand-new revenue stream.

The specifics are tantalizing. BP will be getting Tesla's latest Supercharger hardware, complete with Magic Dock, which accommodates CCS vehicles in addition to Tesla's own. Locations for these new Superchargers have already been chosen, including key cities like Houston, Phoenix, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Washington D.C. The roll-out will commence in 2024.

SpaceX Starship Testing and NASA Mars Updates Oct 27, 2023
    Show notes

In today's episode, we'll talk about SpaceX's renewed vigor in rocket testing at Boca Chica, Texas, and how federal regulations are impacting its schedule. On the one hand, SpaceX has been working diligently on Starship's second test flight, even as it encounters regulatory delays. On the other, it has to clear some regulatory hurdles with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS).

According to the Coast Guard, mariners have been warned about rocket launch activities near Boca Chica Beach slated for November. The notice, though not mentioning SpaceX by name, highlights "scheduled rocket launching activities" that could cause navigational issues due to "free-falling debris." This hints at a potential date for SpaceX's next Starship test flight.

Another angle of the regulatory tale is SpaceX's public disagreements with the FAA. After a contentious Senate hearing, SpaceX and other space companies bemoaned the FAA's inadequacies, particularly regarding their inability to expediently handle licensing operations. As part of this waiting game, FWS officials have recently visited the Boca Chica test site, indicating that regulatory evaluations are in progress.

    Show notes

Today we're going to discuss a compelling story about Elon Musk's management of the social media platform he purchased in 2022, which we'll call X. Initially, the platform seemed to be on an upward trajectory, but new data paints a very different picture. X has seen a significant decline in daily active users since Musk’s takeover, and changes to the platform have been largely unpopular.

We'll break down this story into five essential parts to give you a comprehensive look at what's happening with X under Elon Musk's control. By the end, you'll have a good grasp of the issues and perhaps even some thoughts on where the platform could be headed.

X (Formerly known as Twitter ) Declining while Metas Threads gains traction Oct 25, 2023

Today, we've got a hot topic on our hands—the resurgence of Meta's Threads and the waning influence of the app once known as Twitter, now just X. Threads was initially released to much fanfare but couldn't hold onto its users. Now, with a whopping 260 million downloads, it’s making a comeback. On the flip side, X is losing its luster and experiencing a significant decline in users.

SpaceX Plans Launch of 144 Flights in 2024 Oct 24, 2023
    Show notes

SpaceX has previously demonstrated its ability to execute multiple launches within a short time frame. For example, the company has launched two Falcon 9 rockets within a single day. Achieving the 144-launch target for 2024 will require a sustained, relentless pace, achievable only through continuous innovation and a high degree of automation across the company's operations.

Teslas Cybertruck and the 800-Volt Revolution Oct 23, 2023
    Show notes

Tesla's recent Earnings Call was loaded with information, but the showstopper was certainly the announcement that the forthcoming Cybertruck will feature an 800-volt architecture. This is a significant revelation for multiple reasons and shows Tesla's commitment to advanced tech solutions for its fleet. Now, you might be wondering, why all the fuss over 800 volts? Isn't that just a number? Well, not quite.

This isn't the first time 800-volt architecture has appeared on the automotive scene; credit goes to Porsche Taycan for introducing this feature back in 2018. However, Tesla's choice to integrate this into their latest offering sets a precedent, essentially marking it as a necessary future standard for EVs. The timing is also crucial, given Tesla's looming challenges with global economic conditions, making it a calculated yet aggressive move.
