8 years ago, Nebraska fans were divided on going to a bowl game with a 5-7 record…if they had the option this year, would anyone push back? Nov 28, 2023

Show notes

-Let’s rewind the tape to Mike Riley’s first year in 2015, following a very successful (yet tumultuous) Bo Pelini era at Nebraska, where the team won 9+ games for 7 straight years

-Riley’s first year ended at 5-7 in the regular season, but the team’s APR was so good that it was able to fill a bowl spot when not enough teams qualified, and the Huskers beat UCLA in the Foster Farms Bowl

-At the time, a lot of people were not fans of going to the bowl…what about if they were able to this time? They didn’t deserve it by getting to 6 wins…but would anyone push back if they had the chance?

If you want to know just how rough of a year it was for Nebraska’s offense, a few numbers stand out on the final tallies Nov 28, 2023

Show notes

-Tony White has interviewed for the San Diego State head coaching job

-After one year, does White have the resume to be a head coach or should he come back to Nebraska?

-Kansas State quarterback Will Howard is entering the transfer portal. Should the Huskers make a move?

-Nebraska finished the year without any of the following: a 1,000+ yard passer; a 500+ yard rusher; and a 315+ yard receiver (data per @stewmanji on Twitter)

-Since 1970, 1,449 FBS schools have played 12 games in a season, and Nebraska is only the 3rd team of those 1,449 schools to not have a single player reach one of those milestones

-Is this more of an injury complaint about Nebraska or does this come back more to Marcus Satterfield?

Nebraska’s season is over…with no bowl game and a very ‘gettable’ schedule, was it a failure of a first year for Matt Rhule? Nov 27, 2023

Show notes

-Before the season, most Husker fans would have told you that 6 wins was the goal for the season---just get to a bowl game, no matter what

-That looked very possible at the end of October, with a 5-3 record and an upcoming game at lowly Michigan State…then the rest was history, and November continued being a horrible month for the Nebraska football program, resulting in 4 straight losses

-So…now that the dust has settled and there is no bowl game…was it a failure of a first year for Matt Rhule?
