Indiana beat Wisconsin last night! / Does Nebraska football deserve the optimism that is out there regarding their upcoming 2024 season? Feb 28, 2024

-Last year, Clemson was 14-6 in the ACC and beat NC State three times: they didn't make the NCAA Tournament, but NC State did. Could Nebraska get snubbed?

-Indiana beat Wisconsin last night, which means that if the season ended today, Nebraska would be the four seed in the Big Ten Tournament with a double bye

-Why were fans evacuated from Assembly Hall last night?

-We mentioned yesterday morning that a 247 Sports article put Nebraska as one of 8 teams that could surprise and make its way into the College Football Playoff

-Yesterday, more optimism came out—as some early odds put Nebraska at 16/1 to make Playoff Field of 12, and another 247 Sports article said the Huskers will go 9-3 and finish at 6-3 in conference play—a three way tie for 3^rd place

-This is a program that hasn’t made a bowl since 2016 and likely will start a freshman QB…it seems like they are bypassing the ‘surprise season’ level

-Northwestern is predicted to go 6-6 and 3-6 in B1G play

-We’ve seen seasons in the past (looking at you, Tim Miles) where Nebraska twice was a 4-seed in the B1G Tournament, but the following year didn’t go well and it was back to the cellar of the conference

-The 2014-15 team was preseason ranked for Miles’ 3^rd season after making the Dance, and with almost everyone returning from the previous year, it made sense—but that team lost its way and fell badly

-Same for the 2017-18 team…the next year didn’t go well. Can this program be good more than one year?

-Yesterday we talked about the idea that the NCAA might somehow expand the NCAA Tournament to 96 teams and the guys hated it---rightfully so

-For the 12-team playoff in football and those opposed to it going much beyond that…would it be bad then if a 10/11/12 team somehow won the playoff vs. a top ranked team? Does that make the demand to grow it right away apparent?

-That also is carnage, which people like compared to just having the same thing every year…
