Speaking of NIL---it’s not just college ATHLETES who are involved anymore / Shut Up Sipple (sponsored by Bagels & Joe) Mar 24, 2025

Show notes

-McNeese was a great story in their defeat of Clemson in the Round of 64 before falling to Purdue in the Round of 32—where Will Wade confirmed soon after that he would be taking the NC State job

-The NIL story here is with McNeese manager Amir “Aura” Khan, who has NIL deals with Under Armour, Buffalo Wild Wings, TickPick and Turbo Tax among others---and he’s likely following Wade to NC State as a graduate manager

The common theme for teams exiting the NCAA Tournament—and those who didn’t make it—is all about NIL, as nauseating as that is Mar 24, 2025

Show notes

-A headline on CBS Sports read, “Can St. John’s muster the NIL needed to win it all?” following the Red Storm’s loss to Arkansas on Saturday…and we have heard many coaches discuss NIL and needing more money to fund a quality team

-Husker Online also wrote about this with conversation from Fred Hoiberg, who said the program is working on getting more funds, but seeing teams like Maryland get up to $10 million in NIL and Indiana trending that way seems daunting for a program like Nebraska that’s just trying to keep up and stay afloat…

Nebraska wrestling had one hell of a finish to the season, finishing 2nd at nationals with 2 overall champions Mar 24, 2025

Show notes

-Mark Manning has long been a respected coach for Husker wrestling, and has had some great seasons---but none better than this year, where Nebraska finished 2^nd behind only Penn State at nationals in Philadelphia

-It’s the first time the program has had a pair of champions since 1984---this year it was Ridge Lovett (149 lbs) and Antrell Taylor (157 lbs)….a remarkable showing by the team and an incredible finish to the year

The Sweet 16 is set in the NCAA Tournament…which team is setting the tone so far through 2 games? Mar 24, 2025

Show notes

-The B1G started the tournament at 10-0 before Wisconsin and UCLA went down on Saturday night---the Big 12 also had a great start at 9-1, with the one loss being by Kansas of all teams

-The theme of the tournament still has been quite boring and lacking drama…a lack of buzzer beaters or epic finishes has been disappointing, but maybe things change in the Sweet 16?

How important is it for a B1G team to go deep in this year’s NCAA Tournament? Mar 21, 2025

Show notes

-The story is about the SEC having 14 teams---and rightfully so, as a record for a conference

-But the B1G was said all year to be deep but not with elite teams. Michigan State garnered a 2-seed, but aren’t believed by a lot to be a true national championship contender…so how badly does the conference need someone to make it to the Elite 8 and beyond?
