The situation with the Cal Bears is another example of weird times in college sports…and the question of power between GMs and coaches Apr 21, 2025

Show notes

-It’s been well reported that the University of California has an issue of power struggle between head coach Justin Wilcox and new GM Ron Rivera—so much that the football program won’t have a “fully weaponized NIL purse” until power shifts to Rivera from Wilcox

-18 of Cal’s 22 transfers going out are on offense---including all 5 RBs this week—and it’s been reported that 2 big donors at Cal won’t donate until there’s a change. How exactly can Wilcox operate as the coach through this?

Nothing indicates the start of 2 months of NBA Playoffs like a 51 point drubbing in game 1 of a series Apr 21, 2025

Show notes

-The 2 month long playoffs are underway, and the Thunder beat the Grizzlies, 131-80, the largest margin of victory in a series opener in NBA playoffs history and the most lopsided win/loss for each of those franchises in their histories

-The good news for Memphis is that it’s a 7 game series. That also might be bad news for more drubbings…

Matt Rhule discussed the recruiting of in-state players yesterday after practice…was his answer respectable for Husker fans? Apr 18, 2025

Show notes

-Rhule said that with the 105 player roster limit, Nebraska has to be more selective than ever before and can’t just take everyone from the state if they “want to catch up to Ohio State”…are you OK with that even when other Power 5 teams are recruiting the state?

-We’ve mentioned in previous weeks that Iowa State is going after a number of Nebraska high school players..the same school that played in the Big 12 title game last season…which leads us to the question in general

We’re seeing a Colorado-type level of roster turnover at West Virginia in the first year back of Rich Rodriguez…will we continue to see major revamping like this in years to come? Apr 18, 2025

Show notes

-36 players from West Virginia entered their names into the portal on Wednesday (12 were walk-ons), as Rodriguez does some “Spring Cleaning.” Half of the 2024 class signed by former coach Neal Brown went into the portal, as RichRod wasn’t the coach they signed up to play for in their recruitment

-We saw Colorado go from a 1 win team to a 4 win team and then a 9 win team with massive roster overhaul each year…can other schools follow suit and have success?
