What is the threshold of ‘progress’ in Year 3 of the Matt Rhule Era? Jul 08, 2025

Show notes

Nebraska won 5 games in Rhule’s first year, and won 7 games last year with the bowl win (6-6 regular season)…does that mean that 8 wins or more has to be the expectation? And why should that scare anyone, especially with a bowl game to possibly get the 8th win?

If you look at the SP+ ratings, Nebraska is favored right now to win 8 of their 12 games (only underdogs to Michigan, Penn State, USC and Iowa)

If you thought Urban Meyer would be a candidate to be a GM in college football, you might want to think again / Shut Up Sipple (sponsored by Bagels & Joe) Jul 08, 2025

Show notes

Meyer was on his The Triple Option podcast last week interviewing Oklahoma GM Jim Nagy about the idea of being a GM, and he made it seem like talking with agents of 17 and 18-year-olds was of zero interest to him and wished Nagy luck in the role

Meyer went so far to say, “I’d rather step on a rusty nail and pull it out myself” in terms of the idea of being a GM in college football

How much can Dana Holgorsen help in getting less negative plays from Dylan Raiola? Jul 08, 2025

Show notes

David Pollack talked about the Huskers’ situation on the See Ball Get Ball podcast and said that Raiola’s ceiling is still high but he needs to eliminate negative plays like the 12 INTs he had last year, and going backwards in the OT loss to Illinois

Pollack pointed out Raiola held on to the ball too long at times last year, tried to throw “hero balls,” and took some ill-timed which Holgorsen can help clean up with better coaching and better play calls in general

Nebraska made a list you never want to be on—the top 25 worst coaching hires of this century Jul 07, 2025

Show notes

Mike Riley’s hire at Nebraska ranks as the 23rd worst hire of the last 25 years in college football (from CBS Sports), not so much based on his entire record---but of what he was replacing and how quickly it fell besides one good year in year 2

Scott Frost’s hire at Nebraska was on honorable mention of the worst---again, a terrible place to be---but there were quite a few hires and names on the list that reminded you of how bad things got at certain programs

Is B1G Commissioner Tony Petitti’s quiet approach hurting the conference this offseason? / Shut Up Sipple (sponsored by Bagels & Joe) Jul 07, 2025

Show notes

The Athletic’s Scott Dochterman wrote recently that the B1G is losing the offseason to the SEC because of Petitti’s quiet approach vs. Greg Sankey’s loud and boisterous mantra---interesting as seeing who has won the last 2 national championships..

Is there anything wrong with Petitti being quiet as we try and figure out the best method for the playoff and other matters?
