Show notes

There’s a lot of good things going on for Nebraska football this year but one stat resonates so far on both sides of the ball Oct 01, 2026

Show notes

-Through 4 games (yes, against not great opponents)—Nebraska is 27-for-50 on 3 rd down conversions on offense (10 th nationally) and

has allowed 12-for-47 3 rd down attempts to be converted defensively (9 th nationally)

-Nebraska has struggled to get off the field on 3 rd down on defense for a few years and at times struggled to extend drives on offense…

Texas is No. 1 in the country, but Steve Sarkisian is begging his players to act like they’ve been there before Oct 01, 2026

Show notes

-Sark addressed media this week and said his team needs to cut down on “unacceptable” celebrations after big plays and scores. Sark

said, “We’ve got to do a better job of celebrating with one another. The moment you start to demean the opponent, the flags come

out.”

-Texas had 2 separate occasions of poor character in the win vs. Tennessee…we’ll see if they actually tone things down

The AP Poll might not like Nebraska (yet), but one metric does based on its first 4 games…do we buy into the ESPN Football SP+ rankings? Oct 01, 2026

Show notes

-Nebraska is placed firmly in the 30s right now in the AP and Coaches Polls after their 4-0 start, which is fair with the competition that

they’ve faced. However, the ESPN SP+ rankings (by Bill Connelly) have Nebraska at 16 th in the country---ahead of Iowa and UCLA

(!)—but behind Penn State

-The rankings are ‘a predictive measure of team efficiency that takes into account tempo and opponent-adjust metrics such as team’s

offense, defense and special teams ratings---and is ‘a measure of the most sustainable and predictable aspects of football’

The Stool has caused a ruckus among some media outlets for Michigan State…do we stand by what we said? Oct 01, 2026

Show notes

-Connor alerted us yesterday of an article from ‘Spartan Avenue’ that was titled, “Nebraska media spreading blatant lies about Pat

Fitzgerald era at Michigan State,” and put our post from Monday with Sip saying that the crowd had “maybe 30,000 fans in the 2 nd half”

and the juice in the stadium didn’t seem very strong

-After attacking the show for our take…the article then went on itself to criticize the fanbase for poor 2 nd half turnouts, which seems

pretty hypocritical---does The Stool feel any need to go back on their stance or actually should they stand even firmer on it?
