    Dueling Decades

Dueling Decades is the totally awesome adult retro game show you’ve been looking for! Listen as the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s square off and do battle! Because it’s your history, we just fight for it!

The rules of our game are simple! A coin flip shall decide who picks first, out of the 5 dueling decades categories (Movies, TV, Music, News, & Hot Products).

The judge’s ruling will determine who wins each round, allowing the victor to choose the next available category.

The first 3 rounds are worth 1 point each. With rounds 4 and 5, worth 2 points apiece. The winning decade shall be decided by the highest overall score after all 5 rounds.

Be prepared to lose your mind, it's movies Jay has never seen. Oct 14, 2020
    Show notes

Next week we return to our regularly scheduled programming. But first, we wanted to share this epic blast from the past with you! You'll laugh (and maybe cry), as we explore the retro roots of Dueling Decades with you. With that said, we set the flux capacitor back a few years to the early days of the show! It's that time Marc James and Mancrush were astonished by the amazing list of movies that then co-host Jay Biglove had never seen (or even heard of)! The guys could not pass-up this hilarious opportunity to have Jay tell us and the listeners what he thinks the plots of these movies are. Jay bases his synopsis solely on the title, and then shocks us with what little he knew about them! Hear new versions of some of your favorite 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s VHS classics as they can only be told by Jay! I guarantee you're going to lose your mind.

Marc and Mancrush listen in as Jay Biglove breaks down "Breakin’", but not the version you have ever seen (or anyone else for that fact)! Find out who joined an underground fight club and what Jets' quarterback was a hall of fame speedster! Does Richard Branson have a death wish and should Macaulay Culkin lean on me or stand by me? For some reason, Jay thinks Se7en is secretly a movie about gambling addiction and that Lane Myer was on an impossible mission! Jay still does not know who the puppet master is (even though he was there when we interviewed Charles Band) and may never figure out who the substitute is....but he thinks Camron Diaz may have something to do with it. You will never believe who Jay thinks was in Orgazmo. We promise you will never see these movies in the same light.

Another retro sit-down with the man who isn't even supposed to be here today, Brian O'Halloran Oct 07, 2020
    Show notes

Thanks for all the messages about last week's retro throwback episode! There is nothing like reliving the past with a little fireside chat. We know you want some more Dueling Decades, but we're still on vacation. Don't worry though, we're going back in time once again! This week we get to rehash an epic conversation we had with Brian O'Halloran! It's funny to listen back to an episode that we did three short years ago. So much has changed since then, and we got to hang out with Brian a few months after this interview, and he's as cool as expected. Great guy and I hope we can get him back on Dueling Decades one day as a judge!
In this retro sitdown, the decadent boys of the stall delve deep into Brian O'Halloran! You may know Brian as Dante from Clerks, and 37 other Hicks characters from the View Askew universe! The boys and Brian talk about his love for the Rangers, what life is like for a Jets fan, the worst job he ever had, Clerks, the party life of convention stars, and even how to deposit a check for .06 cents. Brian weighs in on the ill-fated Clerks cartoon, Clerks 3, the Jay and Silent Bob reboot & Mall Brats. Mr. O'Halloran becomes the first guest to ever check in on Shawbag, as his bizarre silence was staring to freak everyone out. And who the hell is Rick Mancrush?! Check this one out, there is a lot of goodies inside.

It's a Dueling Decades retro throwback with one of our favorite guests of all time, Daniel Baldwin! Sep 30, 2020
    Show notes

As a lot of our loyal fans are aware, for a long time we used to have another show called Poop Culture. When we folded the show to go fulltime with Dueling Decades, we left behind a lot of really great interviews! Well, since we're on a vacation week, we decided to release some of these old "fireside" chats with various guests. This episode was really a surprise to us because it occurred only 29 episodes into that show. That night, we were all prepared to have a special effects artist on the show, and we were all ready to rock. Two hours prior to showtime, we got a call from his agent that he had an emergency and had to back out of the show. That same agent said, "if you want, I could call Daniel Baldwin if you're interested". Well, the rest was history!

Daniel Baldwin is a fantastic talker and storyteller! Listen to Mancrush and former co-host Jay Biglove chat it up with Mr. Baldwin, you won't be disappointed. Danny talks to us about growing up Baldwin and being one of the famous Baldwin brothers. He talks about terrorizing his sister’s boyfriends and even sings us a tune that is shockingly impressive. Dan also discusses Celebrity Big Brother, reality TV, and we brainstorm our own celebrity beatdown challenge. We also get some behind the scenes info on Celebrity Rehab, John Carpenter, Homicide: Life on the streets. Last but not least, Dan talks about directing his award-winning movie “The Wisdom to Know the Difference”. And, did I mention that Daniel Baldwin is a fantastic storyteller? See for yourself!

Enjoy this walk down memory lane from over four years ago! Hit us up on social media and let us know what you think. What I think is, Danny needs to come back and be a judge on the show!

Judge Schultz is back with a vengeance in this tight duel between 1973, 1986 & 1996 Sep 23, 2020
    Show notes

Welcome back, our buddy David Schultz is back to judge this retro duel! The heart really does grow fonder when your close friends are not around, and it shows. The boys let loose for some retro hijinks in this seriously amusing "week experience"! Before getting started, there's some big news dropped from the Dueling Decades team. From there, the retro warriors get right into some fierce competition! Drew Zakmin finally gets to dive way back, and brought the best week he could find from mid-September 1973. Marc James jumps into the future with a dazzling helping of mid-September 1996. And, Mancrush rounds out the panel with a prodigious dollop of mid-September 1986!
This duel is very tough, but so is David Schultz. Judge Schultz won't take any lip from the contestants and brings some unique views to the bench! In this episode, you might hear about Mancrush's obsession with inflation, Billy Dee Williams does a movie on par with Citizen Kane, Bruce Willis stars in a flop, Schultz loves Ernest, patiently waiting in lines, a legend goes deep, a rocket transforms into a seabass, Zakmin was conceived in a Plymouth Caravan, how to properly use a bidet, life with four channels, a cartoon that would never fly in 2020, the best job in the world, Christmas in September, a classic comeback story, an album no one pronounces correctly, Zakmin brings the sadness, thank you Reagan for an amazing childhood, and what's a knife?
Do you agree with David's rulings? Play at home and judge for yourself! While you're at it, send your rulings to our Facebook and pick up 20 points on the Dueling Decades Leaderboard!

Rock n’ Roll goes “Hollywood” when Jeanne Basone judges this match between 1975, 1989 & 1994! Sep 16, 2020
    Show notes

Dueling Decades is back for another battle, and this time it's slightly different than normal! Typically when a judge is selected to be on the show, the guys try to cater something that the judge is known for. This week, Jeanne Basone, otherwise known as "Hollywood" from GLOW (Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling) grabs the gavel and she's ready to throw down. Except, Hollywood requested that the boys do an episode all about Rock music! What the judge wants, the judge gets! So sit back, relax, throw on your headphones, and take a trip back to 1975, 1989 & 1994! This genre-based episode of Dueling Decades rocks hard, and it goes right down to the wire! Joe Findlay is back this week, and he brings an epic helping of rock in 1975! Marc James is the middle of the Oreo this week, and he's rocking out with his jeans tucked into his Reeboks and bears the best of 1989! After a nail-biting victory, Mancrush grabs his favorite flannel shirt and delivers the best music stylings of 1994!

This duel was lots of fun for everyone involved, and by the end, Hollywood was ready to record another episode! Hold on to your hats, all three of contestants brought some legendary picks! In this episode, you may hear about: one really dirty concert, electroshock therapy, a new way to dodge drug charges, the people at the Grammys are out of touch, a band goes to bat for the fans when no one else would, Joe brings a snack, a poor boy that nobody loves, a band debuts a song about a girl, another band gets nominated for every genre, the Grammys are still clueless, Axl being Axl, the history of Milwaukee, the end of an era, legends reunite in Morocco, an EP debuts at number one, Marc kinda goes on the dark side, the unfortunate loss of a rising star kills a franchise, Elton John scammed his friend, Joe Brings a picture book to the reading circle, Mancrush devises a scheme and gets busted by the club, and why was Hollywood embarrassed in Middle School?

Do you agree with Hollywood's rulings? Play at home and judge for yourself! While you're at it, send your rulings to our Facebook and pick up 20 points on the Dueling Decades Leaderboard!

Brent Hand from the Hysteria 51 Podcast judges this episode of the unexplained between 1977, 1988 & 1995! Sep 09, 2020
    Show notes

For months, Brent Hand of Hysteria 51 fame has been requesting to be a judge on an episode of Dueling Decades. The guys love having him as a contestant so much that they were reluctant to pull the trigger on Brent sitting on the other side of the bench. Well, they finally came to their senses and decided to give Brent a crack at swinging the gavel. And since Hysteria 51 covers all things unexplained, they figured it would probably be most fitting to focus the entire episode around the genre of - The Unexplained! So you may hear about ghosts, missing persons, the occult, demons, aliens, slashers, and whatever else they could fit within the unexplained! Our first contestant this week hails from the great white north, Joe Findlay of Miscast Commentary brought whatever unexplained oddities from 1995 that he could unearth. Mancrush is back, minus his favorite shirt that is. After getting shutout for the first time ever, that shirt ended up becoming a pile of ash! Mancrush is out for blood this week, with the unexplained of 1988. Rounding out the competition, Marc James once again had to dig way back into the 70s to conjure up the unexplained of 1977!

While none of them will ever be Robert Stack, they try their best to be! Brent uses his Hysteria 51 experience to decide which decade takes this unexplained battle royale, and it comes right down to the wire. In this episode, you just may hear about demonic dolls, clairvoyants that couldn't see their own deaths, Mancrush sees a UFO, the best fight scene in cinematic history, Tobe Hooper brings an origin story to syndication, a 32-year-old sealed package is unveiled LIVE, a board game no one will remember, Joe mystifies with some bootleg Harry Potter, vanishing TV anchors, a transmission that will make you go wow, movies that put Mancrush to sleep, a criminal with a limp, classic science fiction, Richard Dreyfuss just can't catch a break, a soundtrack with a lot of yelling, a song that you might not expect is about aliens, and which toy movie fits this episode's narrative better?

Do you agree with Brent's rulings? Play at home and judge for yourself! While you're at it, send your rulings to our Facebook and pick up 20 points on the Dueling Decades Leaderboard!

Immortal Samm Levine passes judgment on us Freaks & Geeks in this duel between September 1978, 1983 & 1998! Sep 02, 2020
    Show notes

The guys are huge fans of the ill-fated cult classic television show, Freaks and Geeks. So when they got the opportunity to speak with Samm Levine about his new movie Immortal, they jumped at the chance! Whether you know Samm from Freaks and Geeks, Inglorious Bastards, or from the Doug Loves Movies podcast, you know he's a funny and knowledgable dude. Perfect celebrity guest judge material and Samm sure didn't disappoint when the gavel was in hand! This time though, the guys are flipping the script, because this is a "worst of" episode of Dueling Decades. So which one of these gents did it worse? First up, Drew Zakmin is back and he's loaded with a turd sandwich from September of 1998! After a big win last week, Mancrush looks to make it two in a row with a fistful of trash from September of 1983. Rounding out the competition, Marc James looks to get into the win column with a seriously sad September 1978 that almost made Samm cry!

Sit down, relax, and listen to all the hijinx this terrible episode has to offer! Samm Levine was primed and ready to release the kraken on these guys and their offerings. So in this episode you might find out that Samm doesn't want anyone suing the Stranger Things guys, a video game that gets Mr. Levine really upset, Zakmin was exposed to erotic flute playing in Greece as a child, a 445-page dossier about cigar smokers, the drummer that should have been in the Bill and Ted movie, a generational talent mistakingly puts his hands in the wrong man's behind, Blanche gets hitched to Jack Flack, no one cares about Benben, a pompous panther turns into a slithery snake to fight crime, Marc played games with himself, Freaks and Geeks, Kenny Omega vs a grown man who sleeps in a car bed, post-apocalyptic dry cleaners, the Noxzema girl has the strength of twelve men, Smurf snow comes to the cinema, kissing with and without makeup on, Samm stars in the new movie Immortal out on VOD today, and use a freakin coaster!

Do you agree with Samm's rulings? Play at home and judge for yourself! While you're at it, send your rulings to our Facebook and pick up 20 points on the Dueling Decades Leaderboard!

Time to face the music, the real Princesses Diane Franklin & Kimberley Kates judge this most excellent duel between 1972, 1985 & 1992! Aug 26, 2020
    Show notes

Bill and Ted Face the Music comes out in a few days, but today these gents will face the music from a couple of Princesses! That's right, joining us with duel gavels in hand, the original Princesses from Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure join us to decide which decade did it better. Diane Franklin and Kimberley Kates, the REAL Princesses are here! These sisters of 15th century English royalty are in for more time travel, as they judge this "weak" experience between mid-late August 1972, 1985, and 1992! First up, Mike Ranger is back to kick things new school with a triumphant August of 1992. Marc James also climbs into the phonebooth and dials us all the way back to August 1972! Rounding things out, Mancrush brings a totally bodacious August 1985 to the fold. These Princesses are as sweet as you'd expect babes from the past would be! They don't always agree with each other's selections, but they are most harmonious. There weren't any heinous picks on this episode, so no melvins were issued! That said, this episode is packed with lots of stellar stuff such as: a rocker receives a dead man's belt, living the American dream, the ladies give their thoughts on reboots, imposter Princesses, the machine that started it all for Mancrush, flaccid linebackers, a musical homage to the 60s, attending high school for seven and a half years, cult classics that stand the test of time, Kimberley gets a movie idea, cellphones killed Hollywood, find out what happens when the FBI stops being polite and starts getting real, a woman fixes daytime TV, HIV can't stop Magic, a famous Bird rides off into the sunset, a movie that makes Mike Ranger's blood boil, Barry Manilow is pissed at Brandy, dude Kimberley got a Compaq, cereal that came with diabetes, musical refugees, Betty Lou is packing, Diane's thoughts on rebooting a virgin, never buy a used coffin, the lack of 80s period pieces, and would you rob a bank for your lover? Do you agree with the Princess's rulings? Play at home and judge for yourself! While you're at it, send your rulings to our Facebook and pick up 20 points on the Dueling Decades Leaderboard! Richard Gabai gets Hot Under The Collar as he judges this duel between 1971, 1981 & 1991! Aug 19, 2020
    Show notes

We asked fan-favorite, Rhonda Shear if she knew anyone who might be interested to come on the show to guest judge, and she immediately mentioned Richard Gabai. If you were a fan of USA's Up All Night in the '90s, you most definitely have seen Richard's work. Virgin High, Assault of the Party Nerds, Vice Girls, and a plethora of other gems! Richard hasn't stopped since then, producing, acting, and singing! Richard is in a great band called Richard Gabai and The Checks, and you should check them out on Spotify! Richard also sings the praises for one of our competitors this week, but which one? Joe Findlay is back this week, and he represents the best August 1991 you can handle! His first opponent has been on a hot streak of late, Marc James is back with a helping of August 1981 that doesn't disappoint. Finally, Mancrush rounds out the bunch by delving deep into August of 1971!

This was such a fun episode for the guys, Richard is a talented guy that knows his stuff, and he's a fan of Joe Findlay's passive aggression! This episode is loaded with lots of goodies! Check out Richard's latest work "Justice" on Netflix, or go to Amazon Prime and watch some of his Up All Night classics! Other than that, you might hear stories about STDs, turning 150k into two million bucks, the birth of an iron man, government coverups, an epic launch, characters that like rubber nipples, an intricate love story that turns awkward, a murder of a radio star, candy no one can unwrap, a landmark in gaming, 5150 - no, not that one, one of the greatest albums ever made, nothing else matters but numbers, the king of compelling dialect scores a lady half his age, pandering to the judge with a documentary, one of the greatest horror movies of all time, Richard's Dad gives Marc a point, Gary Busey stages a shutdown over Richard, the rigors of the celebrity tennis circuit, and what former Nerd plays guitar in Richard's band?

Do you agree with Richard's rulings? Play at home and judge for yourself! While you're at it, send your rulings to our Facebook and pick up 20 points on the Dueling Decades Leaderboard! Also, don't miss out on our live trivia! Friday, August, 28th! Check our Facebook events for more details.

Judge Jamie Kennedy returns to break down this duel between 1974, 1984, & 1993! Aug 12, 2020
    Show notes

He might not be back in Scream 5, but he's back again on Dueling Decades! Fresh off a photoshoot, Jamie Kennedy joins the game show once again! With a fresh tea in one hand and a gavel in the other, Jamie sits down poolside to judge another retro battle this week. It's not just any retro battle though, this episode is all about "games". Video games, board games, Tiddlywinks, any game you can think of! Our first competitor needs little introduction, Drew Zakmin has brought some fierce competition of late, and it won't end this week with the best games of 1974. Marc James has also been tearing things up of late, and he brings some primo games from 1993. Rounding out the competition this week, Mancrush is back after dominating last week, but will he build upon that impressive performance? We shall see, as he brought the finest games 1984 had to offer.

Jamie was so awesome to come back and chill with the guys! They did feel bad for chatting him up for two hours, but it was well worth it. This episode is packed with all kinds of goodies: a video game that got away with ripping off the planet, Swedes that can really sing, a former Vice President pens an unlikely hit, prison yard basketball at the arcade, an elementary school fight club, an unbelievable streak by a great Canadian, a TV show that Joey Fatone ripped off, a kid's show that's being rebooted for adults, two giants change the toy industry, long balls, death threats, too much blood for the mother's of America, the most violent "kids" movie ever created, Roger Moore might have been a bit of a stretch for Drew, a Yankee with three nipples, movies that Jamie didn't think came out planned, questions Jamie hates getting asked, Millenials love Son of the Mask, Randy is dead, Disney almost made a beloved horror flick, Jamie almost went rafting with Seth Green, why working on movies is better than TV, megalomaniacal principals, the grandpa of fighting games, a couple plumbers from Brooklyn make a movie, and what the hell is a "bagpuss"?!

Do you agree with Jamie's rulings? Play at home and judge for yourself! While you're at it, send your rulings to our Facebook and pick up 20 points on the Dueling Decades Leaderboard!
