Marianna Oct 27, 2021

Show notes

Welcome friends! I know it's been a very long time since I last posted an episode but I am very happy to be back now! Tonight's bedtime story is called Marianna by Henry Beston and I hope that you enjoy it! There will be soft restful sleep music playing in the background to help you fall deeper into a sound sleep. The soft music will continue to play for a little while as the story comes to an end and then it too will gently fade away.
And so, lights out, lie back and let's get sleepy together!
Sweet dreamzzz...

The Moon Maiden: An Old Japanese Folktale Sep 07, 2021

Show notes

Welcome to this very special relaxation bedtime story. Tonight we start with a short guided body relaxation to help you release stress and tension (NOTE: You can skip over the guided relaxation if that's not your thing by navigating the chapters in the episode show notes). Then we will journey together into the world of imagination as I narrate an old Japanese Tale called the Moon Maiden. This is a modified version that includes a mish mash of a variety of versions I found online as well as my own little creative version that I also added to it! I really do hope you like it! There will be soft restful sleep music playing in the background to help you fall deeper into a sound sleep. The soft music will continue to play for a little while as the story comes to an end and then it too will gently fade away.
And so, lights out, lie back and let's get sleepy together!
Sweet dreamzzz...

The One Handed Girl: A Swahili Fairytale Jun 29, 2021

Show notes

Tonight's episode is an ancient Swahili Fairytale called The One-Handed-Girl. This tale originated in South Eastern African and was later collected in 1910 by Andrew Lang in his Lilac Fairy Book. This story is about a courageous young woman who faces many challenges because of her turbulent relationship with her brother. She overcomes her struggles with courage, creativity and kindness.

I hope you enjoy! Sweet dreams,

Joanne

Historical Context Note: This unedited vintage folklore story features traditional Swahili fairytale elements collected in 1910. The narrative reflects the historical setting of ancient South Eastern Africa, including mentions of traditional societal structures and servitude common during that era. Because classic folklore often includes intense character challenges and atmospheric suspense, we recommend that parents and guardians preview this traditional tale first to ensure it matches their young listener's comfort level.
