Episode 301: Think on your Feet XLII Nov 23, 2023

Show notes

Tune in for Think on your Feet XLII, in which the play through of The Innsmouth Conspiracy, featuring Subject 5U-21 continues.

In Think on your Feet episodes, a live play series, I endeavour not to edit much at all. Sometimes I cut some shuffling sounds or abbreviate some of my longer pauses (a chap's got to think!), but otherwise, it's uncut, unaltered and meant to feel like you're with me at the table. There may be mistakes and misplays, but hopefully some successes too.

Timestamps:

0.00 preamble
2.15 intro text
9.50 upgrades and set up
12.26 agenda and act
14.40 opening hand
17.45 gameplay starts
1.26.40 post-gameplay assessment

At 21.05 Peter forgets to add a doom to the agenda the first couple of turns. But when he notices it he corrects it immediately.
At 33.30 Peter takes a four-action turn. Given how things end, that doesn't seem a problem, really.

Episode 297: Calling in Favors Oct 05, 2023

Show notes

Join Frank and special guest Jaya, who kindly steps up so that we can take a look at the new investigators of The Feast of Hemlock Vale Investigator Expansion (for players). We're doing a pre-first look, an initial impressions episode, sharing our enthusiasm and our wonderings about who's coming up. Spoilers, understandably, for FHV.

NB: there's an audio quirk on this episode - Jaya's mic is a little scratchy, but he's still completely audible.

Episode 296: Failing Forwards Sep 21, 2023

Show notes

Join Frank and Peter as they continue their discussion of efficiency and build on it to look at the concept of failing forwards. What is failing forwards and how does it pertain to Arkham? More strikingly, how do reward mechanics influence and direct decks and play patterns?

NB: there's an audio quirk on this episode - Frank's mic has gone doolally and he's somewhat quiet. Apologies; it'll be rectified on the next episode.

Episode 295: Efficiency or the Action Economy Sep 07, 2023

Show notes

Join Frank and Peter as they explore what's meant by 'action economy' in Arkham Horror, or, in other words, what it means to be 'efficient' in play. We talk about efficiency as a concept, how it applies to Arkham and whether it's a useful concept to bear in mind when making decks and playing.
