Episode 74: Frank's First Look at The Boundary Beyond Jul 19, 2018

Show notes

Join Frank - and special guest! - for a first look at the new player cards of The Boundary Beyond, the second mythos pack in The Forgotten Age cycle. We're heading back to Mexico and I for one can't wait to take the initiative and cuddle a snake again! Hooray for snakes! Hope you're well prepared, totally a high roller and never cornered in this new scenario...

Episode 73: Think on your Feet VI Jul 16, 2018

Show notes

Join Frank for the sixth Think on your Feet, in which Calvin Wright finds himself in the sleepy town of Arkham, taking a trip to the Ward Theatre for the premiere of The King in Yellow. I must say, it sounds delightful!
In Think on your Feet episodes, a live play series of Arkham Horror: The Card Game, I endeavour not to edit much at all. Sometimes I cut a bit of shuffling sounds or abbreviate some of my longer pauses (a chap's got to think!), but otherwise, it's uncut, unaltered and meant to feel like you're with me at the table. There are mistakes and misplays a-plenty, but hopefully some successes too. But in this episode, in light of the Patreon support and because I want to take Drawn to the Flame to the next level, I've added some atmospheric details too. Hopefully they elevate the listening experience.
Here's the deck I started with: https://arkhamdb.com/deck/view/181479.
Here's the deck before The Last King: https://arkhamdb.com/deck/view/181498.
During the edit I spotted a couple of misplays I made while playing. At about 39 minutes I put a damage on 'the fire axe'. I meant fine clothes! My mind was addled by all the damage! And then another fine clothes bloop: when I'm hit by corrosion at 1hr14 or so, somehow I behave as though it's 2 cost rather than 1. Which is... weird. No wait, even weirder - I've convinced myself the gallery is 2 rather than 1 shroud, which is incredibly odd! So the fine clothes discard was correct. And at 1hr25 I seem to have forgotten how Dianne works, and I suggest I'd be cheating to move her to the bystander with the fewest clues, which is funny, since that's exactly what she *should* do! Aaaand at 1hr33 I forget to draw an encounter card... hypergah!

Episode 72: Jim Culver Jul 12, 2018

Show notes

He's a dab hand on the trumpet and his music has the power to wake the dead. In the face of unspeakable creeping doom, he's unfazed, even cool. He's a mystic with the power to move you... ladies and gentleman, Mr Jim Culver! Join Peter and Frank for another investigator-specific episode in which they talk about the second mystic we received in the game, the Dunwich Legacy's very own Jim Culver. Jim has a trumpet and loves skulls, but is there more to this musician, particularly in light of the seal mechanic and the expanded cardpool? Let's find out!

Episode 71: True Solo Jul 05, 2018

Show notes

Join Frank and Peter as they talk about playing Arkham Horror solo... and not that two-handed malarkey we've been hearing rumours of, but the true solo, real solo, all by myself solo that's all the rage these days. Which investigators are good by themselves? What pitfalls might you want to avoid? Why am I still talking to myself?

Episode 69: Lore of the Jungle Jun 26, 2018

Show notes

Most people have had a chance to stray into the wilds of southern Mexico, or are in the final stages of planning an expedition this very minute. Either way, you'll probably want to gen up on what's ahead... So join Peter and Frank as they talk about what they've been reading in anticipation of The Forgotten Age, including Lovecraft's jungle adventure stories, some jungle textbooks and a field guide to swinging on vines and creepers. In the jungle.
There's not too much discussion of the scenarios themselves, but if you've not yet cracked open your deluxe box, maybe do that first, just in case! (And play the scenarios...)

Episode 68: Frank's First Look at Threads of Fate Jun 14, 2018

Show notes

Join Frank for his first look at the player cards of Threads of Fate, the first mythos pack in The Forgotten Age cycle. To glance or not to glance, too too solid flesh, toot-toot.... there were a lot of cards with 2 cost in this pack and that felt like a thing!

Show notes

The Forgotten Age deluxe expansion is still out, so join Peter and Frank as they talk about their first impressions of the scenarios, including: how to get lost in the jungle; what snakes lurk in the jungle; is it nice in the jungle; and who's that Alejandro fella?
Spoilers for the first two scenarios abound, and towards the end of the episode Peter and Frank look ahead to what's been announced about the campaign so far, too, so watch out for that.

Episode 66: Laws of the Jungle May 31, 2018

Show notes

The Forgotten Age deluxe expansion is out, and with it came a slew of new rules and some new, rather terrifying basic weaknesses. Join Peter and Frank as they look at the challenges these new cards and rules might pose, the possible interactions they might provoke, and how they might be used in later scenarios.
Spoilers for the new rules and weaknesses incoming, as well as some vague Forgotten Age chatter!

Episode 65: AGE May 14, 2018

Show notes

Join Peter and Frank for a FIRST LOOK at the player cards - especially the Guardian player cards - of The Forgotten Age deluxe expansion. We dive in with a brief overview of the new Guardian investigator, and then look at what new tactics these macho men (and women) can pack. Spoilers, naturally, for The Forgotten Age.
UPDATE: we made a rules error in our Seeker episode: Ursula's reaction ability, because it creates a 'full' action, does also trigger attacks of opportunity should she move into a location with an enemy. Frank will add the full wording from Matt Newman to Arkhamdb soon, but in the meantime, please note we got it slightly wrong 3 episodes ago.
