Switching Survivor Benefits? Check for Duplicate Social Security Payments Sep 19, 2026
    Show notes

I just finished a private consultation and saw a Social Security mistake I have never personally encountered before in more than 20 years of working with Social Security.
That is why I’m putting out this warning.
If you receive Social Security retirement benefits, survivor benefits, or more than one type of benefit, do not automatically assume the amount hitting your bank account is correct just because Social Security issued it.
In this LIVE video, I’ll explain what I found, why certain benefit situations deserve a second look, what warning signs you should watch for, and how an unnoticed mistake can potentially turn into a very large overpayment problem later.
The most dangerous Social Security errors are sometimes the ones that look like good news at first.
Before you spend money you may not actually be entitled to keep, make sure you understand what benefit you are receiving and why.

Original Medicare’s AI Prior Authorization Test in Six States Sep 18, 2026
    Show notes

Your doctor recommends care. But who decides whether Medicare pays—and who benefits when the answer is no?
Artificial intelligence is becoming part of Medicare’s review process. Newly released [government records](https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2026/09/new-records-reveal-problems-medicares-ai-prior-authorization-experiment) raise serious questions about treatment delays, financial incentives, and patient protections. If you have Medicare—or help someone who does—this LIVE Q&A explains what to ask when care gets held up.
Join Dr. Ed Weir, PhD, former Social Security Administration District Manager, for a plain-English look at Medicare’s WISeR experiment, AI-assisted prior authorization, and the safeguards patients need to understand.
    We’ll discuss:
    * Who reviews requests for selected Original Medicare services
    * Where AI fits—and where licensed clinicians must make decisions
    * What the newly released records reveal
    * What to ask your doctor’s office when a request is not approved
    * How another review differs from an appeal of a denied Medicare claim
The current [WISeR pilot](https://www.cms.gov/priorities/innovation/innovation-models/wiser) covers selected Original Medicare services provided in Arizona, New Jersey, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas, and Washington. The accountability questions matter nationally.
Bring your questions about Medicare, Social Security, Medicaid, and protecting your benefits. Please keep personal identifying information out of the public chat.

Automatic Medicare Savings Program Enrollment Delayed 10 Years Sep 12, 2026
    Show notes

October 1 is being called a major deadline for President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill—but what actually happens to your Social Security benefits and Medicare coverage on that date?
Does your Social Security check change? Are Medicare cuts beginning? Did the law really eliminate taxes on Social Security? Could Medicaid changes affect Medicare beneficiaries, nursing-home residents, caregivers, or people receiving help with their Medicare premiums?
In this video, Dr. Ed Weir—former Social Security District Manager and Medicaid specialist—separates the headlines, political claims, and rumors from what the One Big Beautiful Bill actually does.
    We’ll examine:
    • What October 1 really means
    • Whether Social Security checks are being reduced
    • The truth about “no tax on Social Security”
    • Who can receive the new senior tax deduction
    • How the law could affect Medicare funding
    • Why Medicaid reductions matter to Medicare beneficiaries
    • What could happen to Medicare Savings Programs
    • How dual-eligible beneficiaries may be affected
    • Which changes begin now and which come later
    • What seniors, people with disabilities, and caregivers should do next
October 1 does not automatically mean everyone’s Social Security check or Medicare coverage suddenly changes. However, the law contains different effective dates, funding changes, eligibility restrictions, and tax provisions that could affect millions of Americans over time.
Watch before assuming that your benefits are safe—or believing frightening headlines claiming that everyone loses coverage on October 1.

Could You Really Get a $5,000 Tariff Rebate Check? Sep 11, 2026
    Show notes

President Trump has promised a $5,000 “Trump Dividend” to every adult American citizen if Republicans retain control of Congress—but is this money actually approved? At the same time, separate $500 health-insurance rebate checks have been announced. Who qualifies, when could the money arrive, and will Social Security, SSI, SSDI, Medicare, or Medicaid recipients be included?
In this video, Dr. Ed Weir—former Social Security District Manager—separates the headlines from the facts. We’ll examine Trump’s $5,000 payment promise, the conditions attached to it, why Congress would have to act, how it might be funded, and the important details that have not yet been decided.
We’ll also explain the separate $500 rebate checks, who may qualify, why most Americans will not receive that particular payment, and how to avoid scams claiming that you must “apply” or pay a fee to receive government money.
Before counting on either payment, you need to understand:
    • Is the $5,000 Trump Dividend approved or still a promise?
    • Does every adult really qualify?
    • Are seniors and Social Security recipients included?
    • Who qualifies for the separate $500 rebate?
    • When could either payment arrive?
    • Could Congress change the amount or impose income limits?
    • Would the money be taxable or affect needs-based assistance?
    • How can you recognize fake applications, texts, emails, and telephone calls?
The $5,000 proposal and $500 rebate are two different things. Watch before believing headlines that suggest everybody is automatically receiving $5,500.

Medicare’s Annual Notice of Change: Avoid Higher 2027 Costs Sep 10, 2026
    Show notes

Four important letters arriving in the mail could affect your Social Security check, Medicare coverage, prescription drug costs, and financial assistance in 2027. Ignoring one of these notices—or mistaking it for junk mail—could result in higher premiums, unexpected medical bills, lost benefits, or thousands of dollars in unnecessary expenses.
In this video, Dr. Ed Weir, former Social Security District Manager, explains which documents seniors, people with disabilities, and caregivers need to watch for—and the warning signs hidden inside them. You’ll learn what numbers to check, what changes could affect the amount deposited into your bank account, and what to do before an important deadline passes.
Even if your Medicare plan has the same name, your premium is still $0, or your Social Security benefit receives a COLA, that does not mean everything will remain the same in 2027. Drug coverage, provider networks, deductibles, copayments, Medicare deductions, and eligibility for assistance can all change.
Watch before throwing away another Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, insurance, or benefit notice. You may not need to change anything—but you should make that decision after checking the facts.

Could Lifting the Payroll Tax Cap Prevent a 22% Social Security Cut? Sep 09, 2026
    Show notes

Could Republicans finally be opening the door to a major Social Security fix?
A new Washington Post report says some Republicans are now openly discussing something that has long been politically difficult for the GOP: raising more payroll tax revenue for Social Security, including possibly raising or eliminating the income cap subject to Social Security taxes.
Why does this matter to you? Because if Congress does nothing, Social Security could eventually face automatic benefit cuts worth thousands of dollars per year for many retirees.
In this video, Dr. Ed Weir, former Social Security Administration District Manager, breaks down what Republicans are now saying, what “raising the cap” would actually mean, who could pay more, whether it could really help protect Social Security benefits, and what this could mean for your future monthly check.
We’ll also look at the bigger Social Security reform debate, including possible tax increases, benefit cuts, retirement age changes, and the growing pressure on Congress to act before the trust funds are depleted.
If you receive Social Security retirement, SSDI, SSI, spouse benefits, survivor benefits, or you are planning for retirement, this is a development worth watching closely.

Denied Social Security? Appeal to Protect Your Back Pay Sep 08, 2026
    Show notes

October 1 begins a new federal fiscal year—and for programs such as SNAP food assistance, updated income limits, deductions and benefit amounts can sometimes change the answer from “denied” to “possibly eligible.”
But the bigger lesson goes far beyond food stamps: a denial is not always the end of the road.
In this video, former Social Security District Manager and Medicaid specialist Dr. Ed Weir explains when you should consider appealing, reapplying or requesting a new eligibility review for programs including:
    • SNAP and food assistance
    • Social Security spouse and survivor benefits
    • SSI and disability benefits
    • Medicaid and Medicare assistance programs
    • Section 8 and other housing assistance
    • State and local benefit programs
Your income may have changed. Program limits may have increased. A household member may have moved in or out. New medical expenses, missing documents or an agency mistake could also affect the decision.
Dr. Ed explains why you must read the denial notice carefully, identify the exact reason you were denied and act before any appeal deadline expires. Reapplying and appealing are not always the same—and simply waiting until October 1 does not automatically erase a previous denial.
If you were told “no,” do not assume you will never qualify. Find out what changed, what evidence may be missing and whether you have the right to fight the decision.
Subscribe to MyGovExpert for accurate, easy-to-understand updates about Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, SNAP, housing assistance, retirement and government programs that may affect your family.

Matt Zames, a former JPMorgan chief operating officer, is reportedly joining SSA as an unpaid adviser focused on modernizing the agency’s aging technology. But why was this particular Wall Street executive selected—and what could his arrival mean for the future of Social Security?
In this video, former Social Security District Manager Dr. Ed Weir examines:
    • Who Matt Zames is and his history at JPMorgan
    • His previous connection to Commissioner Frank Bisignano

Medicaid May Pay Family Caregivers—But It Can Affect SSDI Sep 06, 2026
    Show notes

BREAKING: The Trump administration is reportedly developing a plan that could direct federal child-care funding to married families with a stay-at-home parent. Does this mean parents could soon be paid to stay home—and who might qualify?
In this video, former Social Security District Manager Dr. Ed Weir separates the breaking-news headline from the facts. The proposal has not become an approved nationwide benefit, but the federal government and individual states already provide certain benefits that can help qualifying family caregivers.
    Dr. Ed explains:
    • What the reported Trump stay-at-home parent plan could do
    • Social Security child-in-care spouse benefits
    • State Medicaid and self-directed care programs that may pay family caregivers
    • Other caregiver assistance that may already be available
    • Why eligibility varies significantly by program and state
    • What families should watch for as this proposal develops
