    Intermittent Fasting Basics: https://www.messenger.com/t/drericberg

Dr. Berg answers the question of why muscle loss doesn’t occur during fasting. It has to do with this one single hormone called Human Growth Hormone which protects and preserves body protein. When doing this fasting or intermittent fasting, the human growth hormone is triggered in very large quantities. Fat as a fat-burning fuel and muscle as the last-ditch effort to help with starvation will also be discussed. Exercise is the main tool that helps build muscle while fasting or intermittent fasting is a tool to protect and preserve the muscle, as well as its reparative functions from being lost.

Dr. Berg talks about what excess carbs mean. Carbs turn into fat through the hormone insulin. The first thing to know is what does normal sugar mean. Normal sugar, 80-90 mg/dl is really only 1 tsp of sugar per all the blood in your body. This is very tiny amount. So excess carbs is anything over 1 tsp of sugar in the body. The average American consumes 27-31 tsp. per day. The ADA recommends our diet should be 60% carbs.

Why Cholesterol & LDL Can Increase on Keto (Low Carb Diet) Jan 12, 2019

    Intermittent Fasting Basics: https://www.messenger.com/t/drericberg

Dr. Berg talks about how a low carbohydrate diet can temporarily raise your cholesterol, triglycerides, and LDL. When you start a keto plan, you will release fat from your fat cells. Well, the stuff you are releasing from the cell is cholesterol and triglycerides - so it has to go somewhere out through the blood and liver. This temporary rise in cholesterol can concern people IF they don't understand the process.

South Beach Diet vs. Healthy Keto and Intermittent Fasting Jan 12, 2019
    Show notes

Take Dr. Berg's Free Keto Mini-Course!

    Intermittent Fasting Basics: https://www.messenger.com/t/drericberg

Dr. Berg talks about the South Beach Diet and compares it to healthy keto and intermittent fasting. The big problem with the South Beach diet is:

    1. It allows 6 meals a day

    2. It doesn't emphasize organic or grass-fed

    3. The induction phase is too short

    4. In phase 2, too many carbs are allowed

    5. In phase 3, you basically go completely back to original foods and gain the weight back.

It's eat anything but in moderation. This is based on the calorie-model which has been proven to not work. If you combine keto (ketogenic diet) with intermittent fasting, something you can do long term, you will not only improve insulin resistance, the factor behind a slow metabolism but allows healthy fats which are satisfying. Your cravings and hungry go away because you are running the body on your own fat.

So, why is it so hard for overweight people to lose weight? This is because of insulin resistance. All 6 fat burning is blocked in the presence of insulin. If you are overweight then you've had insulin resistance for quite some time and insulin now is very resistant. When this happens, it stays high. This high insulin will now make it very difficult to get the weight off. If your insulin is normal, the weight will come off easily - this is the only difference between someone who is able to lose weight easily or has a hard time with it.

Dr. Berg answers the question "Do medication slows down Keto and Intermittent fasting results?". Metformin and Insulin will definitely slow the results because the goal is to lower insulin. Steroids are an injection for inflammation and skin problems can block your keto results. Anti-depressants could slow the results and will give you side effects like weight gain. And, Statins worsens the results. He also talks about how Keto and IF will decrease the need for these medications.
