In this podcast, we’re going to cover what you need to know about a nutrient called benfotiamine.

    What is benfotiamine?

Benfotiamine is a synthetic B1. Vitamin B1 is naturally water-soluble. Benfotiamine is a fat-soluble B1 vitamin. This is one of the only synthetic vitamins that I like because it has virtually no side-effects. I believe every diabetic should be taking benfotiamine. Vitamin B1 is involved in the engine in the mitochondria that involves glucose metabolism. The more glucose you have running through the machine, the higher the blood sugar, and the more depleted of vitamin B1 you’re going to become.

With diabetes, there are four main tissues involved, and B1 can help with all of them:

    1. Nerves/brain - Neuropathy

    2. Eyes - Retina

    3. Kidney - Nephron

    4. Heart vessels - Microvascular endothelial dysfunction

    Benfotiamine:

    • 3-5x more absorption

    • Protects against oxidation and AGEs

    • Decreases A1C

    • Protection

When it comes to benfotiamine dosage, consider taking at least 600mg of benfotiamine per day, and you can spread it out. You should also be doing healthy keto and intermittent fasting.

What causes acne during menstruation? Well, let’s take a look at the whole month.

    • On day 14 when you’re ovulating, you get the highest spike in estrogen.

    • About a week later, you get the highest spike in progesterone.

    • During menstruation, you have the lowest amount of estrogen and progesterone.

Testosterone enlarges the sebaceous gland, which can release more oil and bacteria, which then results in acne.

How to get rid of acne:

    1. DIM (androgen antagonist)

    2. Decrease cortisol (monitor your stress level)

    3. Normalize insulin (ketogenic diet)

    Glutamate: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rewf0...

Today, we’re going to talk about MSG vs. glutamate.

    What is glutamate?

Glutamate is an amino acid. Cancer can live on glutamate, but glutamate does not cause cancer. Almost every single food that you eat actually contains glutamate. Glutamate even makes up part of the body’s tissue.

    What is MSG?

In 1909 there was a patent on MSG, and they call it accent, which is a flavor enhancer. It tricks your taste buds and makes food taste better than it really is. It can also raise your insulin levels.

What is the difference between MSG (monosodium glutamate) and glutamate?

L-glutamic acid is the natural form of glutamate found in foods. D-glutamic acid is artificially made. D-glutamic acid is MSG. L-glutamic acid is not MSG, and it won’t create a reaction.

    Sensitive to Sulfites: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GhQ9...

Today, I want to cover a really fascinating trace mineral called molybdenum. What is molybdenum? Molybdenum is a coenzyme for many chemical reactions in the body.

    Foods high in molybdenum:

    • Legumes

    • Grains (not keto-friendly)

    • Nuts

    • Eggs

    • Green beans

    • Sunflower seeds

Sulfite oxidase - Converts sulfites into sulfur compounds. You need this enzyme to detox the liver, make glutathione, and to make certain compounds in your joints.

Aldehyde oxidase - Involved in getting rid of the candida die off. It’s also involved in breaking down drugs.

Xanthine oxidase - Turns certain proteins into uric acid.

Molybdenum is involved in detoxification, and without it, things can become toxic. If you have a problem with detoxification, molybdenum is the trace mineral you would want to take.

Do frozen vegetables lose nutrients? The answer is no. However, there are some vegetables that you have to blanch before you freeze them. Blanching helps vegetables last longer in the freezer, but depending on how long you blanch them, it can reduce certain nutrients.

    Blanching on average:

    • Reduces vitamin C by 25%

    • Reduces folate by 35%

    • Reduces vitamin B1 by 10%

Correct blanching times for certain vegetables:

    • Asparagus - 2 min.

    • Green beans -3 min.

    • Broccoli -3 min.

    • Brussels sprouts -3 min.

    • Cabbage - 1 min.

    • Carrots - 2 min.

    • Cauliflower - 3 min.

    • Eggplant - 4 min.

    • Squash - 3 min.

You do not have to blanch:

    • Kale

    • Berries

    • Greens

    • Peppers

    • Tomatoes

Half of the vegetables you consume should be raw. The other half can be cooked. The best way to consume them cooked is sautéed, the next best way is to steam them.

If you’re in the grocery store and they don’t have grass-fed organic, only grass-fed or organic, which should you choose? In this video, I’ll let you know.

    Grass-fed vs. Organic:

    Organic

    • If something says its 100% organic, then it’s organic

    • If something just says organic, then it’s 95.99% organic

    • Organic means without pesticides, antibiotics, hormones, or biosolids (sewage sludge)

    Grass-fed

    • There is no legal definition of grass-fed (it needs to be grass-finished)

    • Grain-fed beef is heavy in omega 6 fatty acids, grass-fed is not (omega 6 fatty acids are more inflammatory, omega 3 fatty acids are more anti-inflammatory)

    • Grass-fed beef has CLA, and more vitamin A and vitamin E

In this podcast, I want to really narrow in on the topic of appetite.

    • Overweight people have insulin resistance and higher insulin.

    • People with type 2 diabetes have 9 times more insulin than normal people.

Insulin is the hormone that not just blocks fat burning but keeps your appetite high. Most people never tap into fat burning, they're running on glycogen, and they have way too much insulin that keeps them hungry all of the time.

*You need to lower insulin and fix insulin resistance.

    What is insulin resistance?

If you look at insulin like it's a key, one of its functions is to open the door on the cells to allow glucose to go in to feed the cells. But, it also allows amino acids and nutrients into the cell. If you have insulin resistance, you are not going to be able to allow the nutrition or the fuel to go into the cell. This situation will cause you not to feel satisfied.

In this podcast, we’re going to talk about MCT oil—specifically the different types of fatty acids and their different functions.

    What's MCT oil?

MCTs (medium-chain triglycerides) are types of fat that don’t need help from your gallbladder. They can be turned into ketones pretty fast. Medium-chain triglycerides can be extracted from coconut oil or palm oil. MCTs are really good for people starting out in ketosis.

    MCT oil benefits:

    • Reduce appetite

    • Increase brain energy

    • Decrease cravings

    • Feeds brain/heart

    • Doesn’t get stored as fat

    Types of MCTs (medium-chain triglycerides):

    C6 Caproic -

    • Turns to ketones

    • Very few available

    C8 Caprylic -

    • Quick, stable mental energy

    • Mental clarity

    • Antibacterial (strep, staph)

    C10 Capric -

    • Powerful anti-fungal (candida)

In this podcast, I’m going to go in-depth into why you might be experiencing right-sided abdominal pain after eating, and what you can do about it.

This pain would be underneath your right rib cage. Sometimes it can refer to the shoulder and into the scapula, or even into the neck and head on the right side.

Your liver and gallbladder are both on your right side, underneath that stretching to the left, you have the pancreas. Then you have different ducts that drain from the liver into the gallbladder and then into the small intestine.

What goes wrong with this system that can cause abdominal pain and bloating?

    1. Stones

    2. Sludge (pre-stone material)

    3. Spasm (smooth muscle)

    4. Inflammation/scarring

    5. Dilation - pressure
