Baseball Is Dead Episode 54: Álvarez Walks Off Mariners Oct 13, 2022
    Show notes

Yordan Álvarez broke Mariners fans’ hearts on Tuesday night when he hit a three-run walk off homer off of Robbie Ray. We’re talking about how big of a swing that home run is for the Mariners chances to win this series, but they’re not done yet. Ben Verlander got bodied by Jeff Passan the same night and we’re discussing if he should’ve had to apologize. The Padres tied the series 1-1 with the Dodgers and you can’t help but wonder how Tatís Jr. is feeling right now. Does he get a ring if the Padres win it all? The Yankees took Game 1 from the Guards after a solid outing by Gerrit Cole and if Cleveland doesn’t start scoring some runs they could be done for. The Braves are headed to Philly tied 1-1 and Joey is going to be IN THE BUILDING. Make sure you catch him in Philly this weekend as well as Jared and Jake in Seattle! Enjoy!

Baseball Is Dead Episode 53: The Mets Are Done Oct 10, 2022
    Show notes

It was a WILD weekend of baseball as four teams have already been eliminated from the postseason. Most notably, the Mets are no longer in contention after winning 101 games in the regular season. Although this feels like Joey's time to dance on their grave, he feels like the Mets choking has gone too far to even make fun of them. We're breaking down their next steps as a franchise after a rough September and a good amount of their players heading to free agency. The Phillies shocked the division-winning Cardinals and that is the last we'll see of Albert Pujols in MLB. We're talking about Helsley blowing Game 1 after being stellar all year, and Nolan and Goldy not showing up when it mattered most. The Mariners beat the Blue Jays twice in Toronto and Jared, Jake, and possibly Dallas are making the trip to Seattle for the ALDS. After being down 8-1 in Game 2, the Mariners came storming back and have guaranteed themselves a home playoff game. The Guardians are also moving on after beating the Rays in grueling 15-inning showdown in Game 2. After recapping the Wild Card round, we're looking ahead to the Division Series. We're talking pitching matchups, storylines, and making predictions. Enjoy, and we'll see you after all the Game 2's!

Baseball Is Dead Episode 52: Postseason Preview Oct 07, 2022
    Show notes

It's technically been October for seven days but everyone know October really starts today. We have a full slate of MLB Postseason games today, tomorrow, and Sunday. It's the Wild Card round and Jared, Dallas, Joey, and Jake are giving their predictions for all four series. Pujols hit 703, Judge hit 62, but Gerrit Cole's strikeout record cannot be forgotten. That's why we're breaking down his electric pump up speech in the Yankees clubhouse. Dallas is also talking about his moment in the booth when Stephen Vogt hit a homer in his final MLB at-bat and how it was worth the pain of watching 162 A's games this year. Joey could not make his hate for FanGraphs more well known in this episode. We're closing the pod talking about Joe Maddon's new book and booking him for the pod. Have a great Wild Card weekend!

Baseball Is Dead Episode 51: Did The Mets Collapse? Oct 03, 2022
    Show notes

The Braves SWEPT the Mets in what was probably the biggest regular season series in the 2022 MLB season. Joey thinks this should be categorized as a Mets collapse and he has the stats to back to up. The Mariners clinched the playoffs and Dallas had a front row seat to watch from the broadcast booth. The Phillies took three out of four from the Nats and have a much more comfortable two-game lead over the Brewers for the final NL Wild Card spot. Ohtani signed a one-year $30 million deal with the Angels which leads to a discussion on what Shohei’s goals and values are. Roger Maris Jr is still sticking his nose in the home run discussion on Twitter and Jared still fucking hates him. We almost talk about the Nolan Ryan doc but Dallas doesn’t want to spoil it so we’re going to ruin it next episode instead. Jared realizes Glasnow is pitching at Fenway tonight so he needs to make an emergency trip to Target to get lube. Enjoy!

Baseball Is Dead Episode 50: Judge Ties Maris Sep 29, 2022
    Show notes

Aaron Judge has finally done it! He's now tied with Roger Maris for the most home runs in AL history. We're talking about how his home run record compares to Pujols', whether breaking 61 will make him the real home run king, and Jared's mom having more followers than Roger Maris Jr. Jared rips apart the Maris family, specifically Roger Maris Jr., for not letting Aaron Judge's family enjoy the moment and congratulating them on behalf of their father. We play the audio of Michael Kay's call and decide if he let the moment breathe or not (he didn't). With another major MLB record being broken, Twitter has gone into a frenzy about steroids and cheating in baseball. We examine why baseball is so heavily scrutinized for steroids compared to other sports. Joey has the balls to say that Aaron Judge is not doing steroids which is big of him. We move on to take a look at the current playoff picture and talk about what might happen down the stretch to change the matchups. Dallas is convinced that the Astros are coming out of the AL and the Brewers are making the playoffs. We end with a little NL MVP discussion and also talk about the video of Mike Trout walking by kids asking him for an autograph (kids that were set up by a professional baseball autograph seller). Enjoy!

Baseball Is Dead Episode 49: Pujols Hits 700th Home Run Sep 26, 2022
    Show notes

Congratulations to the newest member of the 700-HR club, Albert Pujols! After a slow start to the season and chasing a record that was seemingly unattainable, Pujols turned on the jets in the second-half to make history on Friday night hitting his 699th and 700th in the same game. Meanwhile, the A's knocked around Jacob deGrom and Dallas is starting to lean toward Joey's side about not being all-in on deGrom. The Guardians clinched the AL Central after going 16-2 in their past 18 games and Jared is cashing his $10,000 ticket. Clips from the Guardians locker room celebration surfaced with audio of people chirping the White Sox and Tony La Russa. Joey has been reluctant to say the Braves will win the NL East but he thinks the next Mets/Braves series will decide the division winner. On the other hand, Spencer Strider is out until the playoffs which is a big blow to the Braves right now and potentially down the road. Jared and Joey think Billy the Marlin is pulling the strings within the Marlins organization and it all comes back to the mascot cocaine ring. Barry Bonds has been blackballed from MLB just because he was the greatest player to ever do steroids. We're trying to figure out why he gets different treatment from the league as opposed to other players who did steroids. Jared finds it weird that the Maris family is attending all of Judge's potential record-setting games to root against him. Judge also failed to hit his 61st home run in a four-game series against the Red Sox so we're predicting where he may hit it. Enjoy!

Baseball Is Dead Episode 48: Judge Hits 60 Sep 22, 2022
    Show notes

Today’s show starts with Joey immediately revealing his involvement in the mascot cocaine ring. Jared woke up yesterday morning and began slandering Babe Ruth almost immediately. Aaron Judge’s recording-breaking season continues as he’s having the best September EVER and currently leads the Triple Crown race heading into today. Apple TV has the game on Friday so Yankees fans are worried that Judge’s record-breaking homer won’t be called by Michael Kay which leads us down a John Sterling rabbit hole. The White Sox may be officially the most disappointing team of the season and we’re talking about Tony La Russa’s phantom stint on the IL. Randy Arozarena and Yandy Díaz apparently have a personal issue and the Rays got swept by the Astros. Zack Hample continues to be under fire as a damning video was released of John the security guard saying he stole a ball from a kid. Joey might be the last one in Hample’s corner. Kyle Schwarber hit his 40th home run and has the 9th best WAR on his own team. Philly fans could be nervous about their baseball team and we talk about if they’ll miss the playoffs. Jared and Joey recount the greatest inning of all time and talk about how with the new wild cart format some teams may be robbed of a home playoff game.

Baseball Is Dead Episode 47: Managing Jacob deGrom Sep 22, 2022
    Show notes

We're back and Jared and Dallas are trying to buy a bar outside of a baseball stadium. It's mid-September so that means from this point forward we'll be taking a look at the standings/playoff picture during every episode. Jacob deGrom fanned 13 in his outing yesterday, including eight in his first three innings. We're talking about how Buck Showalter should manage him during the playoffs with his injury trouble and his late-inning numbers. The Dodgers are already over 100 wins and they're more boring than ever. That's not a knock on the team, they're just so fundamentally good that it's becoming boring to watch them win every game they play. With the playoff picture becoming more and more clear, we're looking at potential World Series matchups and deciding which matchup has the most juice. Joey points out that Aaron Judge has a higher WAR this year than the entire Athletics lineup and Dallas feels like it's a targeted attack. Spencer Strider is the fastest pitcher in MLB history to reach 200 Ks and we're talking about how he's have a lowkey "oh shit" year. It wouldn't be BID without a little Judge Vs Ohtani talk so we close the show with Dallas' pitch on why Ohtani should be the AL MVP which causes him to miss his tattoo appointment. Enjoy!

Baseball Is Dead Episode 46: Judge To The Red Sox? Sep 15, 2022
    Show notes

We’re back and two thirds of the podcast is ready for the baseball season to be over. Dallas is super jealous about Aaron Judge wanting to sign with the Red Sox after he basically begged to come to Boston in a postgame interview. Jared is considering leg-lengthening surgery which Dallas is also jealous about. Alek Manoah got into it with some dude on Twitter who thinks fat guys in baseball are ruining the game which resulted in said dude deleting his account. The Angels have clinched yet another losing record and we’re talking about how having two of the best players ever doesn’t make you a good baseball team if you have no one else. The Mets got swept by the Cubs which was a big missed opportunity by the Braves to gain some ground, although Joey doesn’t see it that way. With the new rule changes we’re talking about if teams currently out of playoff contention should stop shifting to prepare themselves for next year. We also dive into how the pitch clock might disrupt the rhythm of pitchers and hitters. Joey points out all the rule changes Rob Manfred has implemented in his time as commissioner compared to the number of rule changes in MLB history. Zach Plesac was dropped by his agency after breaking his thumb while “aggressively” taking off his shirt and we’re trying to figure out how someone can take off their shirt aggressively. We’re also celebrating Roberto Clemete day and floating some ideas on how we can grow the game of baseball. Enjoy!
