DOUBLE LOVE LIVE! NO PLACE TO HIDE Oct 27, 2023

Show notes

Break out your bag on cans, don your best silk blouse because we are live at the Podcast Studios! Join us and special guest Amy Clarkin (don't forget to vote for her in the Irish Book Awards) to discuss the stupidest SVH thriller yet. When the twins inexplicably bring Nicholas Morrow along on their work outing, he meets a beautiful, constantly weeping girl called Barbara, who dresses like a Victorian ghost. They of course fall instantly in love - but Barbara is staying with her strict uncle who forbids her from socialising. She tells Nicholas to stay away for his own safety - but you can guess how he reacts to that! Meanwhile the twins, who are still interning at the Sweet Valley News, find their assignments have connections with Barbara's plight... Also! DOUBLE LOVE: JESSICA QUITS THE SQUAD PART ONE Oct 12, 2023

Show notes

We're back! And it's time to get your pom poms out, because after all the ludicrous werewolves and creepy predator fiancés and fake kidnappings, we're back in Sweet Valley High itself for an old-fashioned cheerleading romp. Jessica's happiness at getting together with Mr Peanutbutter - we mean Ken – is spoiled by the arrival of glamorous new girl Heather Mallone. Heather's a cheerleading champion, and while the other girls warmly welcome her to the SVH squad, Jessica feels threatened. Can she stand up to Heather and her "funky hip hop" moves? Meanwhile, someone isn't happy about Jessica's new relationship - Liz! Yes, the secret diary is canon now, and Liz is haunted by her own secret romance with Ken... Also! SPECIAL EPISODE: PBA ON THE WAR OF THE POM POMS Sep 28, 2023

Show notes

We may still be on holiday but that doesn't mean you have to go another week with no Sweet Valley nonsense in your ears! In anticipation of the 'Winners and Losers' cheerleading trilogy, we're sharing the episode of our bonus series Pi Beta Alpha in which we recapped the TV series' attempt to adapt the series in one short episode. Brace yourselves - our favourite himbo is making his on screen debut this week! But hang on, surely that Seinfeld-dressalike can't be Ken Matthews?! Alas the casting of Karyn's beloved quarterback leaves a lot to be desired, but there's still much to enjoy in this week's ep, as new girl Heather Malone implausibly becomes co-captain of the cheerleaders and Jessica forms a rival team with a little help from "flashy" Lila. Meanwhile Liz is dodging Ken - and not because she shares our horror at this imposter.

DOUBLE LOVE: A DEADLY CHRISTMAS PART ONE Aug 24, 2023

Show notes

Brace yourselves, listeners. No, seriously, brace yourselves. Because the first half of this book features references to things we never thought we'd see in Sweet Valley High. Things are getting hot and heavy between Jeremy, the scammer sex offender, and Jessica, the world's most gullible girl. As Liz and Todd head to the cabin to see if they can find any clues (if only the police had done the same), Jessica and Jeremy plan a trip to a sex condo. Will Sue, the world's second-most gullible girl, save Jessica from herself? Herman, my pills! Meanwhile, the much-missed Ken returns (in double denim no less), and Lila hatches yet another scheme to promote Robbie's career.

DOUBLE LOVE: DEATH THREAT PART TWO Aug 10, 2023

Show notes

When Lila convinces Todd and Robby November that the Wakefields are being held hostage, there's only one thing to do. Call the police? Not in this town! The Three Stooges of Sweet Valley decide to don disguises and commandeer a Sweet Valley Power truck - with frankly stupid results. Meanwhile the twins prepare to drop off Sue's ransom - and back in the cabin the hapless heiress herself is having second thoughts about the whole plot. Will Jeremy's schemes finally be uncovered? No, because there's one more book left in this ridiculously long mini-series! This show is part of the HeadStuff Podcast Network. DOUBLE LOVE: DEATH THREAT PART ONE Jul 28, 2023

Show notes

Sue has been kidnapped! After a late night search fails to unearth the Meal Quick heiress, the Wakefields get a phone call from a mysterious stranger with an oddly familiar voice. And he's asking for half a million dollars, which just happens to be the exact amount of Sue's inheritance (yes, we thought it would be bigger too)! Liz is suspicious, and rightly so, because of course Sue is actually hiding out in the Project Nature cabin. But she's starting to wonder if she can trust her partner in crime - unlike Jessica, whose blind faith in Jeremy is frankly worrying given all the red flags. One of us was high on cold medicine for this episode which is probably a good thing as this book makes no sense whatsoever! This show is part of the HeadStuff Podcast Network. Show notes

Brace yourselves listeners, because the second half of this bonkers has so many twists and turns we were literally gasping! Jeremy is still off in Yemen - oh sorry, Costa Rica - and constantly postponing his return. What is he really up to? Meanwhile Sue makes a shocking confession to Liz, Winston's highly inappropriate contribution to the video club features a surprising appearance that unsettles Jessica, and Todd finally shaves off his moustache. Plus two of our faves make long awaited returns! This show is part of the HeadStuff Podcast Network. For more, go to HeadStuffPodcasts.com, where you can also become a member of HeadStuff+ and get exclusive access to bonus material and lots more.
