FROM HERE TO SWEET VALLEY PART 3 Mar 28, 2024

Show notes

Like Margo and Nora before her, Karyn has headed west to California so there's no new ep this week! But we do have the third installment of Anna's unhinged 2002 fanfic, From Here to Sweet Valley, which I think we can all agree is a more realistic depiction of the twins' adult lives than Sweet Valley Confidential. Liz reaches out to an old friend, Jessica has worrying thoughts about Bruce, and Winston attempts to flee his terrifying wife Lila. Listen to a sample here, and follow the link in the show notes to read more.

Show notes

Remember the Pom Pom Wars? Neither do we! Yes, it's been a while since we checked in on the rival Sweet Valley cheerleading squads but don't worry, we'll give you a quick reminder of the last book before we find out what happens when Jessica's new squad make their impressive public debut. Are you ready for a cheer-off? Meanwhile a lovesick Liz channels Margo, Mr Collins and Enid (they exist!) give sensible advice that is completely ignored, and Ken proves he's the best person in Sweet Valley (unless you're poor forgotten Terri we suppose). DOUBLE LOVE: RETURN OF THE EVIL TWIN PART TWO Feb 15, 2024

Show notes

Don your blonde wig, pop in your blue green contact lenses, and have a little rummage in your portable Wakefield wardrobe, it's time to return to The Return of the Evil Twin! Nora and Margo have teamed up at last - and luckily the denizens of Sweet Valley are as dozy as ever because within days the Chapelle sisters are successfully impersonating the Wakefield twins. Have you learned nothing, Ned and Alice? The dynamic duo swiftly cause trouble between Liz and Jess - but tensions arise when it becomes clear that Nora and Margo both have the same twin in their sights. And as for the Voice? Well, it gets a very confusing story arc of its own! The second half of the greatest book ever written is even better than the first. DOUBLE LOVE: RETURN OF THE EVIL TWIN PART ONE Feb 01, 2024

Show notes

We're back! And we're not the only ones making a grand return. Yes, it's been a year since we bid a fond farewell to our favourite psychopath, but back then we didn't know (and neither did the ghostwriters, because they're clearly just making this up as they go along) that Margo had a twin! Meet Nora, an orphan who discovers at her father's funeral that she has a twin sister who was given to an orphanage when they were two. When Nora learns what happened to Margo in Sweet Valley, she resolves to avenge her twin's death - and that means killing the Wakefield twins! But there's a big surprise waiting for Nora in California... This book was everything we could have hoped for. It's got it all - Prince Albert, southern melodrama, the bush, knives, wigs, schemes and of course our favourite character of all: The Voice. And that's just in part one! CHRISTMAS PBA: READY, SET, SNOW! Dec 25, 2023

Show notes

Happy Christmas, listeners! To celebrate, we're sharing a special festive episode of our Headstuff+ bonus series Pi Beta Alpha - and if you like what you hear, you can sign up to Headstuff+ and join us in the PBA clubhouse every fortnight at headstuffpodcasts.com. It's Christmas in Sweet Valley (again!). And while Liz attempts to single-handedly organise the Toys for Tots Christmas party, the rest of the gang are heading to the mountains for a festive fiesta in Shred's dad's ski lodge. Will they leave Elizabeth to wrangle the tots alone? Jessica and Lila have no interest in the Christmas spirit - until they fall asleep during a massage and are visited by three delightful and strangely familiar ghosts, who show them the error of their ways. This truly is a deadly Christmas!

DOUBLE LOVE: OUR FAVOURITE SVH MOMENTS OF 2023 Dec 21, 2023

Show notes

It's Christmas! So to celebrate, we're breaking out the jingle bells and the (small) bag of cans and taking a trip down memory lane to discuss our favourite moments from the Sweet Valley High books we read in 2023. And what moments they were - from Bruce's visit to Dublin's most glamorous tourist attraction to the iconic Cookie Monster Werewolf's dramatic debut, from Young Executives to improbably framed photographs, a lot happened in Sweet Valley this year. And we had a lot of fun reminiscing about it all. P.S. Don't worry, it's not a clip show! And if you'd like more SVH nonsense in your ears until we return in the new year, remember you can access our bonus series Pi Beta Alpha by signing up to Headstuff+.

DOUBLE LOVE POM POM WARS PART ONE Nov 23, 2023

Show notes

Having quit the cheerleading squad at the end of the last book, Jessica is facing an existential crisis. What is she if not a cheerleader? Luckily she won't have to find out. With Ken's encouragement, she starts her own rival squad, and a whole lot of familiar - and surprising! - names attempt to join it. Liz of course has no interest - but then Jessica, who has discovered her twin's sensational secret diary, makes her an offer she can't refuse... This is one of the most popular books in Sweet Valley history among you listeners, and we can see why - it's got us shaking our pom poms in delight! Also! DOUBLE LOVE: JESSICA QUITS THE SQUAD PART 2 Nov 09, 2023

Show notes

We're back in Sweet Valley High, and the tension between Jessica and newcomer Heather just keeps on building. The sneaky newcomer constantly undermines her co-captain - and it looks like most of the squad, newly obsessed with making it to nationals, are being won over by Heather's lavish gifts of megaphone pins and flashy new uniforms! When Heather boots two veterans off the squad, Jessica declares war - but will she win this battle? Meanwhile Liz continues to mope about Ken - and takes out her frustrations on her (for once) innocent twin. Also!
