Show notes
Today's guest is Douglas J. Wood, an award-winning author of both fiction and nonfiction whose latest thriller, Deadly Bytes, asks a question that sounds like science fiction—but may be closer to reality than many of us realize.
Before becoming a full-time novelist, Douglas spent more than 45 years as one of the nation's leading entertainment and media attorneys, advising clients on technology, ethics, regulation, and the rapidly changing legal landscape. That experience gives him a unique perspective on how innovation often outpaces the laws designed to govern it.
His newest novel follows an FBI investigation into a murder case involving an advanced artificial intelligence capable of manipulating digital evidence, anticipating law enforcement tactics, and influencing violent behavior. While fictional, the themes mirror real conversations happening today about AI, accountability, public safety, and where we draw the line between technology and human responsibility.
Today we're discussing artificial intelligence, criminal investigations, the future of policing, and why fiction sometimes becomes reality sooner than we expect.
