    Episode 128 - Lynne's Love: Frocks and Fireplaces Feb 01, 2017
    Show notes

It's high time we started on the love part of our year of love and lasts. Join Deb, Erika, Liz, and Lynne as we cover Lynne's love, "The Girl in the Fireplace". Liz and Deb do some LJ fanthropology, Erika has a change of heart, and Lynne gushes about France and frocks. Of course we do our usual random-tangent thing too. X-men fighting leprechauns, anyone?

What did (and do) you think of this ep? Do you love it like Lynne or hate it like an old-school Rose/10 shipper? Or somewhere in between? Let us know in the comments!

    ^E

    Also covered:

    • Lynne is delighted to learn that Chicago TARDIS will welcome Sophie Aldred and Peter Davison to this year's convention!
    • Liz can't wait to read the next (and sadly last-of-the-miniseries) Third Doctor comic by Paul Cornell and Christopher Jones!
    • Erika
      • is utterly squeeful about the return of The October Girl by Matthew Dow Smith!
      • cannot wait for the Gallifrey One convention!
    • Deb
      • is also excited for Gally (in part because she's bringing LEGO-Verity decals)!
      • appreciates the new "podcast for the resistance", The 451 and encourages folks to donate to their Patreon!
      • adores Head Over Feels and highlights their Patreon as well!

    Our First Repeat! - Episode 46 – Communication Breakdown Jan 25, 2017
    Show notes

Because of the emotional ups and (mostly downs) of the last week in the world, the Verities did not have it in them to do a podcast--about love or anything else. Instead, we're releasing our first re-run. Join Deb and Erika as we give a short intro explaining why we've chosen to re-release this particular episode. At this time in history, we feel it's really important.

The conversation Deb talks about in the intro starts at 49:12, so feel free to skip to that if you only want to hear the truly relevant bit. We hope you enjoy!

As always, comments are welcome--especially messages of hope, perseverance, and love.

    As published July 16, 2014

This week we do lots of talking about villains who don't. Join Deb, Erika, Lynne, and Tansy as we discuss what makes silent villains so creepy and effective. We also discover just how many Moffat-baddies are non-talkers (or mostly non-talkers). And do stick around for a particularly interesting tangent about gender roles and power dynamics in communication. This Verity! ep gets positively analytical! Almost scholarly! Almost.

And of course, let us know who your favorite quiet killers are–or weigh in on the deeper debate about communication in general. Or both!

    ^E

    Also covered:

    • ALL the verities are over the moon about the release of Liz's Big Finish debut: Breaking Bubbles and Other Stories!
    • Lynne dies of joy because Rachel Talalay and Peter Capaldi held Chicks Dig Time Lords on the set of Doctor Who!
    • Erika
      • wishes womeninpodcasting.org a happy 7th birthday!
      • and loves DW fandom for not publicizing series 8 spoilers!
    • Tansy
      • welcomes The Ood Cast back to the world of active-podcasting!
      • and delights in Doctor Who clothing for toddlers!

Extra! - In Defence Of ... The Gavel Edition Jan 18, 2017
    Show notes

As promised, we're starting off the year's Extras with some fun! Join Deb, Erika, Katrina, and Tansy for another edition of Verity!'s most popular gameshow--"In Defense Of"! We do our best at defending the indefensible within Doctor Who...with varying results. It's certainly a hoot though!

    127 - Goodbye Martha Jones Jan 11, 2017
    Show notes

We start our year of love and lasts with the last (regular) appearance with one of the most underrated new Who companions, Martha! Join Deb, Erika, Katrina, and Lynne as we talk about Martha as a companion and how much we all love (or learn to love) how she said goodbye to the Doctor. We also spend a good deal of time talking about why.

How do you feel about Martha and her send-off? Let us know in the comments!

    Also covered:

    • Lynne managed to surprise Michael with a great gift: the 7th Doctor's umbrella!
    • Erika
      • finally returned to doing Lazy Doctor Who!
      • watched several Doctor Who Christmas specials with friends!
    • Kat
      • watched all the Harry Potter films!
      • loled at this depiction of Sherlock fandom!
    • Deb adores the new calendar that collects fab Stuart Manning art!

    Extra! – 2017: Love and Lasts Jan 04, 2017
    Show notes

It's a short, intimate Extra! today. Join Deb and Erika as we introduce our topic for 2017. We'll be mirroring 2016's theme of "firsts" by talking about "lasts" and endings. We'll talk about the final appearances of companions, Doctors, behind-the-scenes folks, and possibly other items! But we don't want a year of downers (let's face it, many goodbyes are sad sad sad), so we're balancing that with the theme of "love". We'll also talk about love in Doctor Who as well as things we love about it!

And of course, we'll be talking about series 10 when that airs. Hooray for new episodes of our show!

What firsts and loves would you like to hear us yammer on about? Let us know in the comments!

Here's to a happy 2017 for all of us!

126 - The Return of Doctor Mysterio (Yeah!) Dec 28, 2016
    Show notes

Our last first of the year is the first episode of 2016 (finally!), "The Return of Doctor Mysterio". Join Deb, Erika, Katrina, Liz, and Lynne for an almost-full set of Verities discussing this comic book pastiche and whether it succeeded wildly or failed mildly.

Did you love this Christmas special? Did you think it was just okay? Did you see it in the theatre? Let us know all these things (and anything else you have on your mind about this year of firsts) in the comments!

    ^E

    • Kat starred in a recent Doctor Who's Line, Is It? ... Anyway? episode!
    • Liz enjoyed Matt Smith in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies!
    • Erika
      • showed "Black Orchid" to appreciative classic Who n00bs!
      • finally framed a couple Tom Baker pictures!
    • Deb can't believe Verity! is featured in an article in the Doctor Who Magazine Yearbook!

    125 - Genocide of the Daleks Dec 21, 2016
    Show notes

We did it! Join Deb, Erika, Liz, and Lynne as we discuss the very last first for the year. We're finishing off series one with "Bad Wolf" and "The Parting of the Ways". We talk about this two-parter as well as its place in the context of all of new Who as a season-ender, and it gets a little personal as we discuss how Doctor Who has impacted our lives.

What do you think about these two eps? Do you think they're the best example of RTD's finales? And how did you take the regeneration? Was it your first? Or was this process old news to you? Let us know in the comments!

    ^E

    Also covered:

    • Lynne squees over the trailer for the Christmas special!
    • Erika lols at a fanvid of classic DW companions as Charlie's Angels!
    • Liz met Doctor Who fans 11 years ago and is giddy over set pics from the Christmas special!
    • Deb attended an art show featuring a couple of Who-related projects!

Extra! – Verity! Looks in the Mirror (Again!) Dec 14, 2016
    Show notes

It's another introspective Verity! Join Deb, Erika, Lynne, and Tansy as we take our turn talking about the genesis of the podcast and what we've gotten out of/learned from it.

Have you listened from the beginning? Or started recently and dipped back to old episodes? Do you think we've changed or grown? As always, we'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments!

    124 - Walkin' to Paris Dec 07, 2016
    Show notes

As the end of 2016 nears, we've come to our final classic Doctor Who story of season one. Join Deb, Erika, Liz, and Lynne as we talk about the season one finale (and whether it really deserves the term finale). Also, Lynne is in Chicago, Liz has some epic Happy Thing Flail, Deb uses the blessed term "fanthrpological", and Erika mentions Lazy Doctor Who probably too many times.

What did you think of the Doctor's first season, and of "Reign of Terror" in particular? Let us know in the comments!

    ^E

    Also covered:

    • Erika
      • physically received her Hugo and Parsec Award trophies!
      • and decorated the Hugos w/seasonal Doctor Who decorations courtesy of Annette!
    • Liz cannot contain her squee about the 3rd Doctor comics from Paul Cornell and Christopher Jones!
    • Lynne is over the moon about the pictures from the set of the Christmas episode!
    • Deb
      • loves the 3rd Doctor comics and the set pics too, but did not claim them soon enough!
      • also loves the 9th Doctor comics!

Extra - Happy Things at Chicago TARDIS Nov 30, 2016
    Show notes

Chicago TARDIS was, once again, a delightful experience for Lynne and Erika. They are joined by honorary-Verity, Amber Ensign (Erika's sister!) as they discuss what made this year's con great.

Apologies if you were expecting a special live version of "In Defense Of". We had a blast doing it on the main stage this year, but the tech gods were not with us, alas.

If you were there in person and would like to share some memories of the con, please feel free to do so in the comments!
