How long do I have to wait to swim after eating? Jul 17, 2025
    Show notes

I’m sure at some point as a child on holiday you were told not to go swimming right after eating. Popular belief suggests that we should wait a certain amount of time before getting into the water, in order to let our bodies finish digesting.

Some parents swear by a 30-minute rule, while others say up to two hours, depending on how heavy a meal has been consumed! But in reality, we know that digestion can actually take more than three hours.

Shouldn’t we all be waiting at least three hours in that case? What does cold water shock have to do with eating? Are there any ways to prevent cold water shock? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions!

What are the best ways to have sex in water? Jul 16, 2025
    Show notes

Having sex in water is a common fantasy for a lot of people. We’re talking about in the sea, in a jacuzzi or in a swimming pool for example. A lot of TV shows and films have made it seem like a must-try experience.

In reality though, salty seawater or a chlorine-filled pool don’t exactly make for the most comfortable sex. Not to mention any sand at the beach! And there are health risks too, for women in particular, as seawater or pool water can disrupt the pH balance of the vaginal mucous membranes, which can in turn weaken the vaginal flora and leave it more vulnerable.

What about bathwater? Does using a condom help at all? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions!

Why is laughing contagious? Jul 16, 2025
    Show notes

Have you ever found yourself laughing at a completely inappropriate moment? If so, you know just how embarrassing it can be. And it gets even worse when you make eye contact with someone else and they start laughing too. It then becomes twice as hard to stop.

Much like a strong flu, a powerful and genuine laugh can quickly spread to an entire group! When someone starts laughing spontaneously, their joy can be infectious, causing everyone at the table to laugh, sometimes without even knowing what started it.

Is there really a physical explanation behind it? It just always seems to happen at the worst times, doesn’t it? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions!

What’s the worst kind of meat for the environment? Jul 15, 2025
    Show notes

According to The Telegraph, Brits eat an average of 220g of meat per day, which is almost double the global average. And agriculture is responsible for 12% of the UK’s greenhouse gas emissions according to government figures from 2022.

So it’s clear that our food consumption can have a real impact on the environment. While red meat is often labelled as the worst offender environmentally, in reality things aren’t quite so simple.

Can we agree on exactly what types of meat we mean when we say "red meat"? Do all red meats have the same environmental impact? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions!

What are yellow flags in dating? Jul 15, 2025
    Show notes

In recent years, dating has become a lot more structured. Terms like "green flags" and "red flags" are now part of everyday language, and the criteria for evaluating potential partners have become more specific and defined.

Of course, the main idea behind these colour codes is to help you figure out if someone is right for you based on how they behave. But lately even the flag system has become a little less straightforward, with the introduction of "beige flags" and "yellow flags". Now beige flags refer to boring or insignificant traits, while yellow flags can have a more meaningful impact on a relationship.

Are they good or bad? What are some examples? How do yellow flags differ from red flags? Why is she considered a pop culture icon? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions!

What's the ideal temperature to stay healthy at home? Jul 14, 2025
    Show notes

The World Health Organisation suggests that 18° C is the perfect temperature to set your heating to, but in reality that is just an average. There are a number of variables to take into account.

For example, certain rooms might need to be heated more than others. And generally speaking, when we’re away from home or sleeping at night we can turn the heating down or off completely. That’s right, it can depend on age and medical conditions like thyroid problems for example. Where a certain temperature might be comfortable for some, for others it might be less bearable.

Isn’t it true that some people are more sensitive to the cold than others? Which rooms need to be heated more than others then? What should you do if your home is humid? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions!

Are you spending more on groceries due to stretchflation? Jul 14, 2025
    Show notes

The subject of today’s episode is the latest questionable practice in retail. "Stretchflation" is getting a lot of attention, and for good reason: it's yet another way to squeeze more money out of consumers.

We’ve already talked about shrinkflation on Do You Really Know, which is when you see product sizes reduced but prices stay the same. Since the start of the cost-of-living crisis, we’ve also seen cheapflation, which involves cutting out expensive, high-quality ingredients, and greedflation, which saw food companies hike prices far above the rise in their costs, using inflation as justification.

How does stretch-flation work then? Talk about misleading! Is looking at the price per kilo the way to go then? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions!

Why do couples often look alike? Jul 12, 2025
    Show notes

You may remember we talked about whether or not opposites attract in a recent episode of Do You Really Know. As it turns out, more often than not, couples tend to share a lot of characteristics, and it’s relatively rare for them to be substantially different. When you think about it, it kind of makes sense. After all, it's often easier to be in a relationship and share your life with someone who sees the world in a similar way.

But did you ever consider that on top of that, couples may even share physical characteristics? For example, you may well have heard someone in the past say that a similar-looking couple are a good match, and there are even scientific studies to back that idea up.

What kind of physical traits are we talking about then? Do couples tend to look more and more alike with time? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions!

What foods should you avoid to lose belly fat? Jul 12, 2025
    Show notes

Losing belly fat is a common health and wellness goal. The fat we consume in excess is stored in specialized cells called adipocytes, and its distribution varies between men and women. For men, it’s more likely to accumulate on the belly, while for women, it tends to be on the thighs, buttocks, and hips before migrating to the belly at menopause.

Regular physical activity, especially exercises that strengthen the abdominal muscles, is always beneficial. However, diet plays a crucial role in avoiding the formation of the infamous belly bulge. Certain foods and drinks should be avoided or consumed in moderation.

But is belly fat dangerous? What other foods should you limit? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions!
