Marcus Brigstocke - Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #112 Aug 23, 2016

Show notes

WELCOME WELCOME WELCOME one and all to your weekly (and sometimes more) delivery of the Distraction Pieces Podcast hosted as always by Scroobius Pip! And this week it's another comedic banger as he is joined by Marcus Brigstocke!A wonderful chat from start to end as Pip gets impossibly deep into the Marcus Brigstocke archives, combing through his incredibly heavy childhood and teen years, his comedic origins/roots/outlook and influence and all that entails (with a healthy amount of Fringe talk), his jazz interests with some good Miles Davis talk, his political leanings and a fascinating, emotional ride all the way through in which everything ties together perfectly. Superb.* 'The Wire' spoilers at around the 1h16s mark, just so you know.Marcus is here: www.marcusbrigstocke.com...and here: https://twitter.com/marcusbrigFollow and enjoy!

Brendon Burns - Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #111 Aug 16, 2016

Show notes

Welcome welcome welcome (no John Oliver) to your weekly Distraction Pieces podcast with Scroobius Pip! It's been an all the way live run of DPP goodness of late with Pip's UK book tour (hopefully you made it to a show or caught the book), but here he nails down an in-person in-studio guest - Perth's very own comic genius Brendon Burns!Wonderful stuff from start to end, with a lively tale of Brendon's upbringing and comic roots - which includes one of the simultaneously greatest and most horrible first show stories which is perfectly painful - and his influences stemming from black comics back in the 70s, politics and the hard left, how to work a crowd and the science of doing so, spoken word and poetry and what they are, Australia, wrestling talk (pertinent to his show with Colt Cabana) and good old fashioned podcast chat! Freeflowing and satisfying, get in and enjoy......And for sure you'll want to peep his own podcast too - 'Dumb White Guy', which is available here:https://soundcloud.com/brendonburns

The Strange Famous brothers settle down with Pip to run down the current state of US politics, Edinburgh Fringe politics, and life politics in general. Awesome business. Following that we have the audience-as-guest section where the chat is directed by YOU (THEM - the audience) (it could have been you though, as you may well have been one of the guests), and much ground is covered as always, from spoken word and poetry (pottery?) and the slam scene, previous guests, super powers, and ending up in a really important and interesting revelation/self...

Show notes

Welcome (((welcome))) (((welcome))) (used an echo on that one) to PART 2 of DRUNKCAST PART 4 which is EPISODE 107 of the Distraction Pieces podcast! Enough with the numbers. Let's get into it.A pretty powerful and actually rather sobering talk about suicide straight off the bat, which is ultimately uplifting and very honest and refreshing, which melts into topics including Caroline Aherne and how she touched on the UK's funny/thoughtful/melancholy nerve so well, film talk in general, Chris's fictional dog (classic material) and a charming tale involving the all engulfing force which is Jedward. All will be revealed. Top up and get in.*slight misophonia warning - items get crunched at various points so stick it out, it's not that bad...
