103. VASHTI BUNYAN: THE POP STAR WHO CHOSE HOMELESSNESS (PART 1: THE EARLY WANDERING YEARS) Jul 07, 2023

Show notes

She’s written and recorded some of the greatest music of all time. And her new memoir, “Wayward: Just Another Life To Live,” is an absolute must-read.

Considered the godmother of the freak-folk movement, as if to underscore the point, Devendra Banhart used to write her name on his arm before he’d play shows.

In this episode, Vashti Bunyan reveals to Discograffiti:

Exactly what happened on her lightning-quick ride on the fame train during the early part of her career;

What she did to sabotage her Jimmy Page-written single;

And a blow-by-blow account of her 18-month period of homeless wandering.

NEXT WEEK: Vashti Bunyan rates the bulk of her discography…including Diamond Day!

94. DAVID PAJO REVEALS THE FULL STORY BEHIND HIS FAVORITE RECORDS, HIS EARLY PRE-SLINT BANDS, & HIS STINTS IN TORTOISE, YEAH YEAH YEAHS, INTERPOL, & GANG OF FOUR (PART 1) May 19, 2023

Show notes

Our 9-hour interview with indie rock legend David Pajo covers every single aspect of his career—his influences, Slint, Tortoise, and his consistently amazing solo career, typically released under the moniker Papa M. In Part 1, “Favorites, Firsts, & Flavorings,” Pajo talks with Discograffiti about his favorite albums of all time, his pre-Slint metal outfits, and the myriad post-Slint bands in which he’s played where the members are on the lookout for that indefinable Pajo flavor. We’ll learn about what it was about the early Louisville punk scene that made David feel like he finally belonged, the totally uncool band he admits was his first-ever concert, and why he feels a deep-seated need to leave bands.
