    DIE-ALOGUE

What are we even talking about when we talk about true crime?

That’s the big question DIE-ALOGUE host, Rebekah Sebastian, is getting to the heart of when she interviews her guests — a diverse cross section of true crime and criminal justice players. From lawyers and creators, to authors and survivors, DIE-ALOGUE examines the most compelling aspects of true crime, challenges the genre’s tropes, and explores the ethics of true crime content for both creators and consumers. Listen in to hear the leading voices in crime, culture and justice.

Woody Overton | Real Life Real Crime Podcast Mar 11, 2020
    Show notes

Well, I wanted a law enforcement guest, and I got one. Woody Overton is currently host of the unbelievably successful podcast, REAL LIFE REAL CRIME, where he shares real cases he directly worked in over his long career. He started out as a corrections officer, moved to detective, then a state criminal investigator, became polygraph certified ( Oh man, did we discuss the polygraph!), and currently serves as an expert witness in trials all over the country. He is full of southern charm and stories and I am honored he was willing to kill the small talk! Thank you, Woody! I hope to chat with his podcast partner, Jim Rathman, next time. Listen to REAL LIFE, REAL CRIME wherever you get podcasts and check out their website because they very well could be doing a live show near you.

Kelli Jean Arnold | Fort Worth Trio Family Member Mar 05, 2020
    Show notes

Welcome to Part 2 of my interview with Kelli Jean Arnold - second cousin to Rachel Trlica, on of the three girls dubbed The Fort Worth Trio. If you have not listened to Part 1 go back now and listen! I am venturing into something different this week: a case in two parts. Kelli Jean Arnold - second cousin to Rachel Trlica, one of the 3 girls who missing from Fort Worth Texas in 1974, found my true crime trivia page - YELLOW TAPE, when we featured their story on Missing Monday. Part 1: We struck up a conversation on Facebook and I invited her to tell her story on DIE-ALOGUE. I am honored she said yes. Please note: I don't usually cover cases. I usually interview and while we might talk ABOUT cases, my podcast is not a source for the facts/timelines/details of a given case. Even in this one, Kelli Jean just shared info and memories with me, but I am not reporting on the events. That said, at the top of the episode I do read a brief overview researched and written by Patty Whalen Ucciardino. Other podcasts that I know of ( there are probably more) and that I listened to on this case include: True Crime Garage, Trace Evidence, and The Trail Went Cold. Again, thank you to Kelli Jean for her willingness to share. We hope that sharing the story keeps it moving towards truth and peace for surviving family members. __________________________________ Reminder! Justin Evans | Generation Why Podcast Feb 26, 2020
    Show notes

Before there was SERIAL, there was Generation Why. Justin Evans is one half of Generation WHY - the actual OG of true crime podcasts. He's also the one of the kindest guys in podcasting if you ask me. What a thrill to speak with him, hear about the early days of true crime podcasting, how he keeps it fresh with Aaron after 8 years, and where he finds himself now. He's also the host of The Peripheral podcast which I am particularly loving as it brings these PERIPHERAL topics around true crime, straight to the top...it's very raw and vulnerable. I like it. Justin and I recorded in NYC and my only regret is that we didn't have more time. Thank you, Justin, killing the small talk, and I hope to continue the DIE-ALOGUE! Check out his show, The Peripheral wherever you get your podcasts. ___________________________________________________________________ Reminder! Sarah Cailean | Criminal Behaviorist, Investigator, TV Host/ Producer Feb 19, 2020

Thrilled to share my conversation with Sarah Cailean. A bonafide badass. From her early days as a patrol officer to her current work as a behaviorist, TV and film contributor, and soon, author and documentary producer! She's busy. We share a lot in common - diet cokes and mutual disdain for movement classes. Listen up and take notes because Sarah has a lot of great insight on true crime and all the other things we talk about when we talk about true crime. You can watch Hell in the Heartland here. Susan Hendricks | HLN Anchor, Delphi Murders Journalist Feb 12, 2020
    Show notes

What a privilege to interview HLN news anchor, seasoned investigative journalist, and all around gracious woman, Susan Hendricks! You might recognize her from HLN Network where she is the Weekend Express anchor, or you very likely have seen her work if you've followed the tragic story of the Delphi Murders. She also moderated a panel with the families at CrimeCon 2019 on the case. Libby German and Abby Williams were killed 3 years ago almost to the day. On today's episode we talk deeply about Susan's work with the girls' families, their quest for justice, and her ongoing work around that case. HLN just launched a new podcast called Down the Hill: The Delphi Murders, where she contributes on several episodes. Susan's genuine commitment to these families and this case is palpable. She believes answers are close and that this case WILL be solved. Please listen to this episode carefully then listen to Down the Hill: the Delphi Murders, and maybe, just maybe we will see justice for these girls and their families. ___________________________________________________________________ Reminder! Rachel Monroe | Author 'Savage Appetites' Jan 29, 2020
    Show notes

If you have enjoyed past conversations with deep thinking perspectives on women and true crime, you will love today's interview with Rachel Monroe. Rachel wrote a fascinating book, Savage Appetites : Four True Stories of Women, Crime, and Obsession', that explores the relation between women and true crime. She puts forth an idea that there are 4 archetypes that women identify with and she devotes a section of her book to each one. If that sounds neat and tidy, it isn't. It's messy and nuanced and we get into all of it! Sadly, our audio connection was less than stellar, so my final question to her didn't make it into the episode. When asked what is keeping her up at night, she answered watching YOU on Netflix, especially because she just moved and doesn't have a LOCK or CURTAINS yet. Send her your positive thoughts. I recommend this book ( and our interview) who is ready to challenge pre-set notions on true crime in general, and certainly as it pertains to femininity and femaleness. Melissa Maher | True Crime Idol + The Thread Network Jan 22, 2020
    Show notes

If you love true crime and Instagram you have probably seen and loved "True Crime Idol" candles, which are candles featuring our favorite "Patron Saints" of True Crime. My guest, Melissa Maher, is the brains and heart behind the brain, which also donates $2 of every purchase to End the Backlog. To that we say, BRAVO! I actually teamed up with Melissa to give one of these bad boys away and guess which one? HINT: He's more boy next door than bad boy. He's Paul Holes and if you want a candle with his likeness, head on over to my Instagram feed to get in on the action. @diealoguepod Now back to Melissa. In addition to learning her true crime origins story, hearing the back story of True Crime Idols, I also learned about Melissa's latest endeavor - The Thread Network, an online forum for true crime lovers to search, share and speculate, all in one place. How brilliant is that? Check it out and sign up for a free profile because she is adding new features to the site all the time. Melissa was a joy to speak with, a woman on a mission to engage true crime in a meaningful way, and an inspiring entrepreneur! She also curates vintage home + bar accessories - TAKE ALL OUR MONEY, MELISSA. Here are her instagram feeds: @truecrimeidols @thelivingcollective @thethreadnetwork Reminder!
